there is a lot of room for improvement, as wbak said lighting and reflections but also the trees/grass/bushes look terrible in games (and these demos). Ground textures are still very fake in most instances (games that use photogrammetry can look close to real, but these demos don't). When I look at these demos most of the time I'm disappointed by the slow progress of graphics in the last few years.

Hahaha I love this, I've been showing my friend's screenshots of the apartments of the UE4 demo, telling them that I just helped a friend with there apartment. They actually believe me until I show them the rest of the screenshot showing the title of the video and a similar one in the recommended bar. There reactions is priceless.

In this new 2018 Unreal showcase video, 3 unique showcases. 2 of them are from end 2017, and 1 is a bit older. The 3 demos you are going to see: - An old Old Brazilian Kitchen (in dawn and dusk mode) - An apartment which uses high res photomapping textures - A Pavilion in Barcelona Test the demos yourself! ue4arch.com/category/demos/ Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/152767529@N08/albums

Imagine the potential of this in VR? Not only would it be amazing for gaming, but for architecture this would be groundbreaking. As an architect you'd be able to see exactly how your work would look when finished, avoiding mistakes and allowing adjustment. Think I've heard of this application for this technology previously, but with these graphics it'd be incredible.

The only thing I feel like that's making this look fake is the lack of realism. No dust, no clutter, no actual grass, things like that. Everything is too perfect.

We hit the maximum quality of graphics now. Time to aim for bigger worlds, better effects and less loading screens! :-D
@jeantuathail6 жыл бұрын
Whacka Doodle Not really my friend, so much more can be done on lighting and shading, and rendering normal mapped surfaces. This will come as our systems get better at raycasting. The problem is if you cast a ray for every pixel on a 1080p monitor that's about 2 million raycasts, which has to check intersections of lines, quite an expensive procedure ( and in 3d, where say the Doom engine uses 2d rays and programs 3d height in on top of that). And larger worlds can (not saying they will) open you up to worse game design, as the developer focuses more on the size of their world than the content of it. I'm into games development hahaha the past 5 years have been incredibly exciting.
@WakoDoodle6 жыл бұрын
Sean h interesting, makes me wonder how far we can push it. Another experiment would be to pick a game and see how detailed we can make it today. But the fact we can push detail to literal pixels and code them to behave in a specific way is just mindblowing. Imagine how much detail we could get! Makes me wish i could get into development like this!

You have the textures, modellings, shades, etc. I think the only part you will need to work on is the lighting. it some areas need to be higher contrast, some other areas brighter lighting.

When you say demo, you mean in the classic Amiga sense right? So it's being rendered by the computer but actually no different from a video as you can't move freely within the space. Edit: Damn, just watched the un narrated part of the video. You can free move. wow, that is something special. How come games never look this good.
@skywalker19916 жыл бұрын
Looks good ,but they gotta redesign the whole engine from ground up to take advantage of multi core CPU and new Vulcan APU. Everything still run on dx11, too much overhead and not enough draw call . 5000 draw calls on dx11 vs 120,000 on Vulcan and dx12 Api. Hopefully we'll see unreal engine 5 cases on Vulcan APU and dx12 with vr optimization.

How can you create this much of quality. It's amazing Can you please post a tutorial for this. It can helps everyone to develop Unreal Engine.
@PredCaliber6 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot :) But I did not create these demos. I did create some maps for the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament with the help Of UnrealED 1.0 and 2.0, but not for 3.0 and 4.0 anymore. Things got too complex with implementing models from other programs for me. In this video I only recorded the footage in 1440p for the ones who do not have a good PC and graphics card, but you can always download the demos for yourself to test it out :) (see links in vid description)

One critique I have UE4 (UE4 is badass otherwise) the rendering and positioning of foliage for trees is a tad artificial at times, almost looking like faux trees were planted. However, only a very nit-picky artistic eye would detect that tiny detail.

Performance is terrible on apartment. To me it's all very well to make a hyper realistic scene but if the rendering engine can't cope or design issues / decisions result in poor realtime performance then it's not good overall irrespective of how realistic it may look.
@OlafPawbelt6 жыл бұрын
get a better computer then. Problem solved
@dudejoe87056 жыл бұрын
That's like saying, if you didn't optimize your game very well and then refusing to fix it because you said "Get a better computer then" which the whole point of optimization is so that more people can run it. Computers are expensive, and not everyone is rich.
@RickOShay6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Imagine if all game developers said that ! My machine is pretty powerful so shouldn't be an issue especially since the polycount looks relatively small by comparison to massive open world games being developed at present. Granted it looks great - but some other U4 demos which look equally good run smoothly.
@nameinvalid696 жыл бұрын
guys, this isn't for game. Performance is non-issue. Don't argue about game optimization. this is for architectural presentation.

What a shame... These are all great and all but what is the point of showing off on a pc when all the good looking games are on console... Seriously just look at the ps4 exclusives. Games like uncharted 4 or the last of us 2 look so damn good on ps4 it makes me mad for not getting these level of quality and care on pc... We have only these demo presentations but when it comes to actually using these engines for the the great visuals and ANIMATIONS they will always be on console... That's the business I guess...

Gaming Videos, lol it aint because of that. If you belive in that logic then i have to say that im sorry to see you have taking things that wrong in your life, only because a game is expensive and have been using cryengine it does not mean cryengine is better lol, those companys who use that engine is probably pretty much owned by crytek and they want them to use their own engine and not others
