YES, this is exactly what I wanted. In my opinion, the Danganronpa Beautiful themes are just so amazing in conveying the complex mixed emotions of Danganronpa.

So the “chordal break” is what makes Beautiful Dead one of my favourites in the series, huh… we’re learning

My favourite atmospheric theme from the danganronpa series is “Darkness time” from V3, it gives off a really eerie vibe and constantly reminds you that it’s nighttime, the best time for killers to strike and the next morning you or one of your classmates might be dead

Beautiful Lie is my favorite. The piano is so good. As someone who makes music and loves Danganronpa, I found this extremely helpful. Thank you! I love your stuff.

The music in this game is actually what made me want to check out the series. I kept getting the OSTs reccomended to me, and while I listened I was like "Wow, this is so serene and peaceful. This game must be very relaxing to play" and then I watched the playthroughs and was severely incorrect

DR1’s beautiful track somehow always felt refreshing to me in a literal sense. I don’t know how this track does it, but it sounds like crisp air and coolness

I always found Beautiful Ruin to be pretty sad. Summer Salt is a lot more upbeat, but the normal variant has this sad vibe to it with the lead synth. Just feels so lonesome after hearing the layered percussion in Summer Salt. The chord changes after the "chorus" also hit me with them melancholy vibes. I figured it was in minor, just couldn't figure out what the chords were. Summer Salt also only plays prior to Byakuya's death (with three exceptions), which makes Ruin just feel even more down to to the association of the students' trauma and grief at the situation.

My favorite one is Beautiful Lie. It gies me a vibe of relaxation that can be found in claustraphobic environment that also gives a feeling that nothing is gonna happen to you if you will be relaxed and calm. Beautiful Dead is my second favorite. It gives a mystery vibes in closed environment. The environment that looks familiar, but it doesnt seem right at all, giving you a thought of what might happen here. Plus, after hearing time and time again gives me a feel of Nostalgia for some reason. I can't explain this, but it feels good to hear this theme again. Honestly, Beautiful Ruin is my least favorite, I don't like it very much. Mainly because it sounds... fake. Fake in a sence that it plays a relaxing tropical music, but it also sounds like a fake, giving the feeling of uneasyness. Don't know how to describe it more properly, but I doesnt relax me at all, i don't like hearing it when thinking of something good happening.

Aww Yeeaahhh I was looking forward to this video. *Beautifully* done. That opening was a really good way of showing the power an overworld theme can have over a scene's mood/vibe, and you showed more examples throughout the video which was really interesting! Going into the technicalities of the songs and their parts was really helpful too! You are honestly really inspiring

In my opinion, Beautiful Dead gives this claustrophobic vibe because everyone is shut off from the outside world and they immediately see that they're trapped. DR2 gives a relaxing vibe because firstly, it's supposed to be a vacation and the characters assumed everything will be fine. The second thing could be due to the setting being set up by Makoto to help the Remnants of Despair. A Beautiful Lie gives this eerie vibe because everything is supposed to feel safe and familiar but something is going and no one knows what.

I cannot believe this video came out the VERY DAY I started trying to write a Beautiful theme. Even though I found it a day later, it's still INSANE. Anyway, this video is really great! I'm definitely going to be referencing it, as it pointed out a few things I hadn't noticed. I'm surprised you didn't talk much about the chord progressions, which are really wild and use a ton of crazy cool extensions. But your points about mood and comparisons between them are extremely helpful!!

I feel like eatch of the three themes also applys to the Setting: In THH their locked in a school with no light execpt the lights in the building which is represented by the softer tone of Beautful Dead cause of the confined space with no natural light their in. In GD the characters are on a Island which obviously has more light and a brighter setting then the enclosed Hope's Peak which makes the music more tropical and mystical at some parts. In KH they are in an enclosed school again but they can go outside there's just a giant cage keeping them in similar to Beautful Dead there's that softer tone at the beginning of Beautiful Lie but quickly turns upbeat to represent the setting of there trapped in an enclosed school but they have natural light and aren't in lets say Hope's Peak With the Boarded up windows making the place seem a bit darker. Idk this is just what I think

Very cool stuff! I honestly don't know much about music besides just...what I vibe with and what I don't, so it's very interesting to see a breakdown like this. B. Lie feel almost like a synthesis (heheh, synth-esis) of the two themes in a way that showcases the evolution of the *narrative* themes of the series. DR1's claustrophobic, glum tone is pretty straightforward, even if it's deliberately offset by the game's signature "psychopop" aesthetic. SDR2 complexifies the nature of the confinement: you're outside, in a lush environment, but you are confined by geography, so it's a confinement with the *aesthetics* of freedom (the "hypnotic" nature of B. Ruin dovetails nicely into the big twists involving both the island and Hinata). DRV3, on the other hand, smashes the line between truth and artifice constantly - you have a creepy school inside an "outside" that is *itself* confined by what Monokuma declares to be the line where the "world" ends (which we come to find can mean quite a few different things). It's interesting you and the Discord folks describe B. Lie as "self-conscious", because DRV3 is very much a game that is a) centered around the idea of truth and falsehood and b) in conversation with itself as a franchise. For all the complex feelings and thoughts I have about the series, one thing is pretty clear: Takada very much understood the assignment. Thank you for the video! o7

Hey Everythingfantasy, could you maybe make an analysis of Hideki Naganumas Style one day? He is the producer of Jetset Radio and Airgears Soundtracks, swell as many sonic games. I don't know wether that's particularly you're taste of music but I think he is similar to Masafumi Takada in how one can easily recognise a song was composed by them.
