I Personaly think that Geras in mk1 is a major upgrade from being a Mindless Slave for Kronika to be Close Friends to Lui Kang even calling him a part of a kind of Family and acting after emotions but also serfing his duty

While I doubt his current state was thought of when writing the previous game I think the contrast of how he has been treated by his 2 masters and how it has directly nurtured his personal growth makes for a better story overall instead of starting as Garas is now.

A big talking point for MK1’s story is how the jobbers (namely Reptile and Baraka) have been redeemed, but I would like to add Geras to the mix after watching this video. Going from a generic unkillable obstacle for the gang to “overcome” in MK11, to seeing him have an actual personality, desires, wishes and a real relationship with his creator, puts him up there with Syzoth and Baraka for best redemption arc. Fantastic video, you definitely earned my sub!! (Also I didn’t feel like beginning part was dragged out too long, regarding discussing the intros!)

Geras had to witness eons worth of countless timelines being constantly reset by Kronika. Liu Kang becoming keeper of time and doing things differently (and treating Geras as a friend rather than a slave) was probably a nice big breath of fresh air for him.

I love their relationship in MK1, it's a very unexpected bond that done well. It highlighted Liu Kang's character as a benevolent god who treated his creations as his equals not as pawns. I also love this new Geras who is allowed individual thoughts and desires. Also, I have a feeling you ship Geras and Liu Kang.

Seeing Geras returning is both exciting and anxious for me: if someone with previous relationship with Kronika appeared, it meant something was wrong with the timeline and it required both Geras' and Kang's interventions.

I can't believe I didn't subscribe sooner - I adore your deep dives into the more subtle nuances of character development in the game. As you mentioned - one of the best things about the Geras/Liu Kang relationship is that Liu, like with all things in his new creation, gave Geras the independence of thought to make his own independent decisions. And from the bond they develop over EONS is that Geras appreciates Liu Kang's incredibly deep (DEEP) compassion for all creation, he is devoted to Liu Kang simply because he genuinely believes in Liu Kang's overwhelmingly kind outlook. You even mentioned it, the emotional turmoil Geras experiences when he reveals the Jade Jaguar (also the same jade jaguar Kung Jin steals from the Wu Shi academy in MKX!) was genuinely moving to watch - Geras cares for Liu Kang as a person, not just as a god/titan/warrior/etc. I haven't dared to watch your vid on Liu Kang - I expect it will make me as sad as THAT scene in the game because I have feeling I know exactly what you're going to analyse and I don't yet have the guts to watch it. I'm tempted to join the discord, but I'm bad enough writing veritable essays in youtube comments - it'll be worse on the discord. Cant wait to see more!!!

I really enjoy Geras' change into MK1, as being a gentle giant and an ageless scholar is much more enjoyable than being a mindless crony. I also just really enjoyed Geras a character as I was good with him in MK11, but I enjoy him far more now as his role in the game is much better and more realistic.

Admittedly... I was skeptical of Geras ever since his trailer as Keeper of Time with Liu; I really thought he'd turn corrupt again as he did with Kronika and those abilities to rewind time and become nearly unstoppable. I thought he'd have the same role as he did in MK11, but this proves me wrong. I'm glad that Geras has a more positive role this time around despite on how abysmal the plot and most of the characters were. I'm relieved that Liu as the architect of the New Era has a companion who makes his own destiny and it's for Liu's sake. Still...I hope the devs would keep that relationship if they'd realized the failures MK1 made/is making, and if they should restart the New Era from a different outcome, ie the perfect ending from MK11, they'd maintain it.

When I saw Geras again in MK1, it really took me by surprised! Like I wasn't even expecting him to return at all! But after the whole story, I really love him more in the new era of the story than in MK11!

Even though this is only his second appearance in the MK series, I hope this will remain as the definitive Geras. This is such a massive improvement from what he was in MK11, and while you can probably tie in lore details to explain the shift in character and allegiance, Geras being a good guy genuinely suits him more and he should stay that way going forward personally speaking. I will say I also feel this way towards other characters like Reptile and Baraka.
