i think another aspect of their relationship thats hinted at is actually that aki wasn’t able to fall for her because of makimas influence over him as he was unable to remember why he even liked her. This is more head cannon but when he was able to finally see it it was a intense emotional moment just like when angel was able to break away from her control and influence for a bit

I agree, I wish there was an exploration of their feelings a bit. It wouldve just been heart breaking, because himeno was, before Denji and Power (those who Mkaima did allow him to grow emotionally close to), the closest to him, someone he couldve loved. And I think hed mourn not having been able to fully appreciate that. Although I will say Angel is even more tragic cause hes already depressed after Makimas control of him, probably because the feeling of emptiness of losing his loved ones never left, so Idk how he wouldve coped after breaking free.

Form the moment I saw her and she spoke her first lines. I knew Himeno would leave an impact on me and make me cry. Like Aki, I never got over her and I hurt ever time I see her. Fujimoto is highly exceptional writer, the way he can craft characters that leave a massive imprint on the fans.

"Aki can cry." I have no idea why exactly, but this quote has stuck with me ever since I read Chainsaw Man. I felt cathartic when I read those three words. It's one of those things I don't know why I think of it time to time, but will in the future. Maybe I'll get it tomorrow or a week, month, year, or even a decade from now. Who knows? I sure don't. Hell there probably isn't a "grand" reason to it. Granted, I read Chainsaw Man some time last year and around spring/summer after breaking up w/ my ex-boyfriend so maybe it resonated with me in some weird way. Maybe that's why Himeno's words stuck with me since. But even then it lives rent free in my head when I don't project my own sad stuff onto it. I have no big point to make about this for anyone actually reading the entirety of my comment. I've seen people talk about the more iconic lines in CSM and never seen anyone talk about the "Aki can cry" quote. I guess it's my way of saying Himeno is the one character that had the biggest impact on me.

Himeno's actions were driven by her perspective in the meaning of life. After seeing countless deaths of her colleagues, her experience with some very upset family member of her perished comrade informed her that one way to bring meaning to her existence is to have someone morn for you after your death. It didn't came in a vacuum of course, many religions and many of our holidays encapsulate this concept as value. Himeno's actions were driven by such aspect and it works very well because this motivation is so familiar to the whole world and practiced by many. We don't really need to question her motives, it's simply something we can accept and understand. Her character arc didn't exist only to serve the development of our main characters, but it echos a message that impact us all - the fear of death and becoming nothing. She is the only character who disappeared into nothing, and it is completely by design. Not a lot of shonen series dives into this type of core ideas, and it's what made CSM characters stood out.

Im commenting late, but Aki was also emotionally controlled by Makima with her control (it wasnt absolute control, but she just made him fall in love in even more than he already was). It was implied in abit in earlier chapters but the big reveal was in chapter 74 (when asked by Angel Devil why Aki fell in love with Makima, he couldnt even find an answer to tht question, and then afterwards it was revealed that Makima was thw conrrol Devil).

She's a very flawed character that represents disgusting aspects, like most people in chainsawman. Her behavior towards denji isn't near makima, but it's still not good.
