Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers was viewed as a misstep by Kendrick for a long time but after a myriad of recent events that sent a lot of people back to the album for another visit, the public opinion on the album seems to be shifting.
If Drake and Kendrick’s beef has any positives other than the fact that Kendrick is dropping music, it’s the fact that people are looking at Kendrick’s music through an entirely different lens. And I love it.

It's a bit frustrating when people consider this album to be a flop. I think it's one thing when you set out to make a collection of songs and bops and they just don't hit. That's a flop to me. It's embarrassing. It's another thing when you set out to make something personal and transparent and people don't receive because they don't feel like thinking about their problems lol. That's not the artists issue at that point. Mr. Morale isn't for everyone but I wish everyone would just let the guy be human. It's a very obvious sonic journal and one of the rare times when you can tell someone is trying to express their experiences through their music. A LOT of "artists" throughout the years have called their albums the "most vulnerable record I've ever made", and then you end up getting pretty standard music industry tracks with songs that anyone could have made. In the case of Mr. Morale it's different, and I can respect the dull moments because it's just a dude processing his experiences over the last several years. He's a private guy and doesn't always bring his girl into the mix, but she's very present on this album. That was a choice on both their ends and I think that speaks to how this album is, again, a musical journal. If people glean something from it, that's great, but it doesn't have to be some woke, danceable, revolutionary, taking a stance on social issues ode to blackness where he's layer septuple entredres while playing 5D intergalactic chess. It's just him living through life, making music as a means of expression, and that's perfectly fine and okay. I respect it. Thanks for your video! I enjoyed and wish it were longer lol!

Loved your analysis of this album. It's one of my favorites actually. Maybe because I'm at a point in my life where his spiritual messages and introspective lessons are just HITTING me in all the same ways. He samples Eckhart Tolle's voice on the album consistently and it's just so crazy cause a lot of the issues Kendrick is talking about with himself and society are things that I have been struggling with as well and when I felt like I just wanted to end it all I came across Eckhart Tolle's work and it helped change my perspective so much. I just love how Kendrick's music is so relatable to so many people, even outside of his community. His work is so layered that you could pull so many interpretations from it and the more you listen to it the more you understand. People who think it was a flop are really just being ignorant. If they want a summer banger then just go listen to some Drake or Sexxy Red and shake your ass haha. I think you're right, people weren't prepared for that kind of message. They weren't ready to look into the mirror. I think Kendrick is such a genius though, and since this rap beef people got to hold a microscope to two of the leading artists in the industry and discern for themselves what was true about these artists. And because of that, they get to revisit this album and see Kendrick at that vulnerable level and relate to him more closely. I get MJ, Prince, and Tupac vibes from Kendrick. He has deep, truthful, and relatable messages in his music and doesn't gloss over the pain that we all feel. This is the role of an ARTIST. To expose the human condition in ways that we can relate and empathize with. He is an artist. Not a rapper - a spirit medium as he says haha. Just really admire this guy. Loved your video. I’m glad you pointed out how Kendrick wearing the crown of thorns was meant to convey that he sees himself as not a savior but people have this erroneous expectation of him, an image that he previously pushed. I did not like how people thought he was being blasphemous. And I attribute a lot of that to religion, particularly Christianity. One of the main things I hate about religions like Christianity is that they inherently train most people to turn off their brains when it comes to engaging in dialogue with others who they feel are disrespecting their religion.
