The crazy thing is, you didn't even have to use such an exploit, because it is possible to get all seven chaos emeralds in emerald Hill Zone alone! There are just enough checkpoints for you to accomplish that before you fight Dr robotnik.

Sonic 2 was my first Sonic game I remember playing on my dad's Sega Genesis way back when and I'm glad to hear that even in the remaster, it holds up. So many fond memories of that game! I will say, I think it's pretty funny that you were able to find an exploit on a version of the game that was supposed to fix certain aspects of the original. Can't wait for the next one! ❤

Im glad im not the only one who kept getting cooked by Mech-Sonic as a kid. I'd usually have 5 lives tops, and that was neeeeever enough. Great vid! Hope you do Sonic 3 - in my opinion, it's slightly better than Sonic 2.

Awesome video my boy! Definately a step up from the first one! Everything flowed very nicely 👌. Loved your little clips of the live commentary. That one where you struggle to go super and then falling into a pit and dying had me cracking up. Also the death egg robot "how do I hit hi-- ow" had me dying man. Another quick suggestion: have you thought about putting your little Etce avatar guy in the corner while you commentate? Or during the "live" clips? Could be a neat idea. Caint wait for Sonic 3 and Knuckles!

Hey, the little Etce is a good idea. I think maybe I will give that a shot next time. I haven't used the sprite ones in a long time. I think I might actually try mania soon since I know I've played Sonic 3K so much as a kid but I've never played Mania ever.

I remember when I saw the trailer for sonic mania and they mentioned the drop dash I thought of it as a useless little gimmick but after playing the game and trying it it felt like it's such a natural thing for sonic that I was surprised they never did it before

So wait a minute, they gave you a separate button for Super Sonic in the origins version of Sonic 2? Because last time I checked, at least in the original Sega Genesis version, the second Sonic jumps up in the air and he's holding 50 rings and all seven chaos emeralds, he *_automatically_* turns into Super Sonic.

Aahhh, Sonic 2! My Childhood right here! That first Super Sonic Transformation where you lost a life was sooo funny. Just like you, I also would typically game over somewhere in Metropolis Zone. Those damn mantis badniks were the bane of my existence there. Only once did I ever make it to Death Egg Zone, and just like you, lost to Silver Sonic. I was so upset when that happened, but now, maybe I can actually beat it. I should try it again! BTW, great video!!!

If you liked Sonic 2, I hope you really enjoy 3, it shattered my expectations as a kid who only played 1 and 2. It’s a shame the Origins versions provided are considered the worst ways to play due to music changes and gameplay bugs, but I think you’ll still enjoy it plenty. Besides, they’ve killed all the other ways to play it now so unless you hunt a physical copy or an older collection, it’s not worth the trouble. By the way, the Emerald Hill Restart Exploit isn’t actually needed. You can get all Emeralds in Act 2 if you get every checkpoint you can and snag the emerald.

I'm going to do 3 soon! I might do Mania first because I've been wanting to play it, and I used to play Sonic 3 and Knuckles to death as a kid, even if I never beat it. I hear that Sonic 3 A.I.R. is the best way to play it now, so I might give that a try. I didn't know that about the checkpoints. LOL. I was just like WOW I can keep doing the first checkpoint over and over!

@@Etce Yes, Sonic 3 AIR is THE best way to play, there’s so many enhancements that are lovely to have that just aren’t there in any other port. I 100% suggest using that if you can get your hands on it, since it requires a S3&K rom. It used to be you could get the rom by getting S3 on Steam, but they delisted it so it’s up to you to get that file somehow now (pirating, legal rips from your own cartridge, using older ports to get the file from, yada yada) And feel free to do Mania, although it might feel a tad stale after you JUST played the games it references all the time. It’s a wonderful time, but it was made in the mindset that people haven’t played the classics in a while and it’s a return to form.

Sonic 2 truly felt like a sequel to both immersion in both gameplay and mechanical aspects. The stages, music, level design, yeah basically way better than the first game. Hopefully that entire experience didn't make you hungy. Speaking of which, sandvich or chili dog X3?
