Its a shame that you didn't mention the time that Jason Griffifth literally passed out from voicing Sonic. Context: In Sonic: Unleashed, Jason was tasked in having to voice the iconic Werehog defeat-soundeffect, which was done under such poor circumstance, that the man after yelling his heart out, nearly passed out in the soundbooth.

Ryan is perfection man. It says a lot that despite growing up mainly in the Jason era, his voice specifically is what Sonic generally moreso sounded to me as a kid. SA1, SA2 and Heroes are pretty much INTEGRAL games in the franchise, about as integral as the original 2D trilogy. Ryan may not have had the more modern hype moments that Jason did, but it says a lot that I watch Nazo Unleashed as a kid and still felt like his Sonic was the best ever.

Jason was insufferable at the start of X , super detached in 06 and braindead in ShTH , but man he was incredible at Unleashed and Black Knight, only to be replaced right after. And Roger, well, one could say we haven't had his best performance yet. Arguably he got something going for in Boom

Great video! Small correction about Roger's Sonic. Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games was actually the first installment in that series to adopt the 2010s/Studiopolis voice cast where we hear Roger's portrayal as Sonic. Jason's Sonic voice (and the 4Kids-era cast) was still used in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

Jason will always be my favorite, but ryan is also a really close second. On Roger's hand, i think his voice in the boom series was the best its ever been, and i want that voice direction in the games too

Ryan Drummond will always be the true Sonic to me, his voice sounded perfect in Sonic Adventure 2 and his line deliveries were spot-on in Sonic Heroes. He sounded completely balanced. That said, Ben Schwartz, Jason Griffith, and Deven Mack are also fantastic imo. Ben fits great for Movie Sonic and is really underrated and Jason sounded great in Sonic Unleashed as well as Sonic and the Black Knight, and Deven sounds great but seemed to be held back by lackluster writing. Tbh I think all of Sonic’s Modern voices are remarkable, great in their own ways, and had their moments, so I’m fine with whoever voices Sonic now.

Jason’s still my personal favorite, but I got to admit, Roger REALLY proved how versatile he could be as Game Sonic in Frontiers. (He was the perfect fit for Boom Sonic, but he was super comedic compared to what Sonic had been in the past). That being said, I don’t think Sonic has ever had a bad VA in the mainline games. Ryan, Jason, and Roger all have done a fantastic job with the character. And most of the secondary media has thrived as well. Jaleel really brought the attitude of 90s Classic Sonic, Devon Mack brought his own spin, but sounded enough like the Game 3 to still be recognizable as Sonic, Ben Schwartz’s voice is perfect for the younger, less experienced Sonic we meet in the movies. And even though it’s nasily, Martin Burke does have a certain charm as OVA Sonic that makes him seem like a young, somewhat experienced adventurer who is confident in his abilities. All in all, Sonic has been blessed with some pretty awesome vocal performances by various good voice actors.

Good video! My favorite sonic voices are a tie between ben Schwarts (movie) or roger crsig smith. I will say i think Smiths performance in sonic frontiers was probably the riskiest move sonic team has taken regarding sonics voice. That being said frontiers itself was just a massive gamble

I agree with this completely. ... lol Also Ryan is my favorite Sonic. But Jaleel White is also really great. It's just he's associated with a specifically different Sonic. But sometimes, there are aspects of the voice and portrayal that I think would be cool in modern Sonic. Actually, funny enough, when Jason Griffith first started, he sounded a lot closer to Ryan than later on, but the clip you used also was an example of him sounding a bit like Jaleel White as he was more playful and trollish in that episode which I really enjoyed. It doesn't line up with what a lot of people say, even Griffith fans... but I actually find his portrayal in episode 1 to be my favorite Jason Griffith portrayal of Sonic. It was so cool. I ALSO really like Roger Craig Smith as I do hear similarities to Jason in select few lines and can see why they'd choose him after Jason. He has that Sonic sound even if it's new. I like his voice best in Sonic Generations and, oddly, in the LEGO collab commercials. See the one where he asks the Narrator "But can it go REEEAAALLY really fast??". It's the actually the most "Sonic" I ever heard him sound. He also does great in OK KO Let's Be Heroes in his feature episode. I like Ben Schwartz more as time goes on especially in Sonic Movie 2. And Deven Mack I really liked the voice. I just didn't care for the portrayal. I think it's wild he sounds similar to Ryan, Jason and Roger all at the same time and leans towards different ones depending on the tone and situations.

I'm really torn on which is my favorite. While Jason is the voice I heard throughout my childhood, Roger's voice just feels correct for the modern version of Sonic. 11:02 I personally disagree. There’s actually more scenes of Deven as Sonic sounding emotional then not. The scene when he talks to Thorn, when he finds out his friends and world are gone, whenever he gets angry or sad throughout the show too. You just have to pay attention to it. My personal favorite is in S3 ep3 when he tries to reason with Nine. It’s honestly the most raw emotions you’d hear from Sonic that rivals even the movies in some aspects.

I think Drummond is great and all, but I wouldn't call him consistent. SA1, SA2, and Heroes Sonic all sound different enough that if you played me a voiceline from any of the three, I'd be able to identify which game it's from. Simply put, he's a lot calmer and grounded in SA1 than in Heroes.
