this is the fake New Zealand. I'm from NZ and have hiked all over the South Island and am familiar with where alot of this was filmed. They heavily edited a lot of the landscape shots and manipulated it to look more "fantasy" esque.

Amazing the difference music makes, Howard Shore IS the theme of LOTR, bear just didn't get that same feel yet.

You're right. I like McCreary but apart from peter jackson, howard shore was the one who transmitted the magic of middle earth. He should always be there when tolkien is brought to the screen. The same thing happened in harry potter when they took out john williams and that magic was also lost.

No one can say anything about the visuals and the scenery of the show. It was the only thing that kept me watching. I wanted to see the Middle Earth, apparently plot has a good starting point, but poorly designed, moving too fast and ruined. The music and dialogues are the worst. Howard Shore gave a soul to Middle Earth, without him it's not really like we remember. Also, there aren't many meaningful conversations between characters.

Really? Besides the visuals, for me the music was the only other factor to keep watching. Especially loved the Numenor and Sauron theme. It's not Howard Shore, but Bear Mcreary has done a brilliant job nonetheless.

Believe me, The Middle-earth stories have always been like an opera, just like John Williams' impact on Star Wars, but without the music of Howard Shore the middle earth doesn't have it's signature, it's soul, empty.

Howard Shore's music is amazing! One of the few things about this show that doesn't suck. The Rings of Power however, is a billion dollar dumpster fire! The reasons are quite simple for both conclusions. Howard Shore is a talented, dedicated master composer and conductor of orchestral music, one of the best there is. J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay are a couple of "Bad Reboot" cast-offs from Jar Jar Abrams school of bad writing and show-running. They have the unmitigated gaul to take J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece of fantasy fiction and turn it into a modern day, woke-ass, politically correct, badly written, acted and produced poor imitation of his Middle Earth Legendarium. The dialogue of this movie is so utterly forgettable, “Do you know why a ship floats and a stone cannot?" Ugh! Definitely not what a Professor of English Literature at Oxford University would have written. They even have people saying "Okay" on more than one occasion. "Okay" is not a word that would have been used in this time, for crying out loud! Payne and McKay have accomplished nothing noteworthy in their careers to this point and I believe Bezos now realizes the mistake he made hiring these two. Morfydd Clark's acting range is limited to two facial expressions, the half-snarl twitch she uses when she goes into "Mary Sue" mode and whatever the fuck that was on her face when she was riding the horse on the beach....(shudder). Couldn't tell if she was smiling or trying really hard to hold in a fart. I can't blame it all on her bad acting because the writing and dialogue were equally bad. The activist/actors of this shit-show continue pushing the idea of diversity in Middle Earth as if it wasn't already there. There are a number of races represented in Tolkien's Middle Earth. Humans (several races of including Easterlings and Haradrim), Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, Orcs, Ents, Trolls and Barrow-wights. The diversity within Tolkien's Middle Earth makes sense whereas the diversity in the Rings of Power makes no sense at all. The Middle Earth saga is a pre-history of England and Northern Europe. How the fuck do Africans and Asians end up in a tiny isolated village in England or Northern Europe? The answer is they wouldn't. Diversity for the sake of spreading "THE MESSAGE" is the nonsense you get from amateur screenwriters pushing an agenda instead of respecting the canon and lore of the greatest work of fantasy fiction ever written. The two big "reveals" at the conclusion of season one, Halbrand is really Sauron and Meteor Man is really Gandalf, were obvious from the moment they appeared on screen. Never mind that Gandalf isn't due to appear in Middle Earth for more than a thousand years. That "Guyladriel" stood there and took a 1500 degree pyroclastic flow to the face, and didn't die, but came out looking like a giant Cheeto is awful writing even for a high school level drama class production! It's just stupid and lazy. They had a billion dollars to develop a story about the Second Age of Middle Earth and they had source material to work with that would have been awesome had it been done right. But Payne and McKay did not follow the source material. In fact they deviated from it at every turn because they know better than Tolkien and this show had to reflect the world we live in today. Do they even understand that people like fantasy fiction because it allows us to escape the bullshit of the world we live in today! This show is just plain bad. "Guyladriel" in Rings of Power is already thousands of years old but acts like a spoiled, entitled "Karen" when she doesn't get here way and she was never a sword swinging commander of the northern armies. She had wisdom, knowledge and a quiet strength in politics and other social matters. She was a leader through her superior intellect, that's how Tolkien wrote her and Cate Blanchett portrayed her perfectly. As the supposed protagonist in Rings of Power Clark's version of her makes her completely unlikeable. She is a rude, insulting, antagonistic "Mary Sue" who gets her way every time because everyone else just wants her to go away......like the audiences. This billion dollar dumpster fire of a show needs to end now, before the second season sees the light of day. It is an abomination of Tolkien's masterpiece of Middle Earth. It should be wiped from our collective memory as just a bad dream. I hope one day someone with actual talent and reverence for Tolkien gives it another shot. R.I.P. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, your true fans still love and appreciate your life's work.

I also think it's hilarious that you think a pyroclastic flow in a fantasy universe would have the exact same characteristics that it does in our world to the point of temperature to 2 sig figs. Other than that, it's not very woke in any sense, and Galadriel is obviously not "just a guy" if you actually pay attention to her backstory and motivations.

Tolkien will be venerated forever because of the masterpiece of fantasy fiction that is the Middle Earth legendarium. The Rings of Power, on the other hand, will be forgotten as soon as it finishes airing if it actually makes it that far. Read the books Vad, it might even make a small crack in your bone top that lets in a bit of actual knowledge regarding this fantasy world........but I doubt it.

@@vadimuzdensky2384 the only criticism I have of your comment is that it is not a fantasy universe. As hoffy1955 wrote above, it is OUR world. It's the north west of Europe in prehistory. That is what Tolkien was writing, a mythology for England, which doesn't have one any more as it was all obliterated by the Christianisation and Normanisation of Anglo-Saxon lore. So the normal laws of physics will pertain to Middle Earth. Middle Earth was a Saxon way of saying Earth , between the heavens above and the hells below.
