I took my seat in the middle on the rickety wooden seats on the sawdust floor in the tent along sideshow alley at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 1965. The flap on the tent was closed and six people and I waited expectantly. Barry came out with his guitar and Robin and Maurice followed. They stopped about two meters right in front of me. I could have touched them. There was no sound system "just" a guitar and three voices, very close, six strings and three voices. They launched into Wine and Women and Song, Blowing in the Wind, I was a Lover a Leader of men, Take Hold of That Star, Kilburn Towers? In the Morning. And a few others. They were totally immersed and so was the audience of seven. It was a Beautiful Life Changing musical experience. I've found those songs on youtube. This is when they were at their best. The best 4 shillings or 40 cents I ever spent.

Gosh as a person who is the same age as the twins, these photos have 1950’s and 60’s written all over them. It was a wonderful time to grow up. Especially the 50’s. It was safe for kids to play outside, down he street, around the corner, blocks away, or where ever. All the kids did it. And there were enough kids to choke a horse. After all the men returned from WW2 most of them got married and started families. And even the Gibb boys who tell how poor they were say they had a blast playing near the water when they were young. They say they had a great childhood. It was safe for kids to just be kids back then. No matter where you lived or how much money your family did or did not have. Yes, they earned money for their family, but it was doing what they loved. And they still seemed to find plenty of time to do other kids stuff. These pictures really take me back……. It was a golden time.

I saw the video of the concert of the Gibb brothers singing this song and Mo being a comedian about it. I tell ya, if there wasn't any horsing around once in a while, their life and concerts would be dull as a spoon. So yes! The three really do belong together. They're the only family band I know of that lasted as long as they did. If Mo hadn't passed on or Robin passing on, they would be still singing today either solo or as a group. They loved to sing. I totally get that. My parents had singing jam sessions almost every Saturday night, Grandma on the fiddle, my uncles and mom on the guitar and my aunts singing. I miss those days.

They were Australia’s Jackson 5 and as kids we all knew them at school. So I get annoyed when they and fans say their careers took off when they left for the UK or that gigs were hard to find in Australia for them. They were celebrities with a huge fan base behind them in Australia and New Zealand. Me included.

But the first time I heard a song by the “Brothers Gibb”, I knew I had just listened to something special....the wonderful melodies, beautiful lyrics and amazing harmonies. One of the all-time great bands, I had the pleasure of seeing them live in concert in 1975 and it was a magical evening. Now, only Barry remains, but their legacy will live on forever. One of the most underrated songs of the Bee Gees. So many people remember them for Saturday Night Fever - which is classic, of course - but many great songs of theirs are from the 60s, yet are not played enough. The Gibbs knew how to write a good song. Just think: They are the second most successful songwriting team of all time. Sheer geniuses and talents all the Gibb brothers were.

Apologies for the delayed response. I totally agree with you both. Barry is one hell of a songwriter, not just for his brothers, but for others too. This song is pure poetry in every way. Only The Gibbs could come up with such great lyrics as these. Andy was a great talent too in his own right. Why Andy isn't as popular over here in the UK is madness. He was just as good as his brothers, some say even more so. Have you guys heard the live version of this song? It's amazing. Anyways thanks for your responses guys. RIP, Maurice, Robin and Andy. @lexsoft39694 жыл бұрын
Robin at lower harmony ? When comparing their voices in their solo songs, I think it's Maurice who did the low register. Compare Maurice's voice in his song "Railroad" and Robin's voice in "Saved By The Bell" or "I Started a Joke". However, good catch on that lyrics part you mentioned : gorgeous harmony. Whenever people talk about vocal harmony in general that also includes other bands/groups, this song comes to mind. Of all Bee Gees songs, based on vocal harmony, I will rate in the following order : 1. This song 2. Melody Fair 3. Paradise 4. Too Much Heaven 5. Mr. Jones I probably miss some songs, but these are the most memorable in terms of excellent vocal harmony.
