As a 5 or 6 year old, in about' 78 I got cleaned up whilst on my pushy by a car as I was crossing City Rd right down on the corner with George St. Luckily I suffered nothing more then a slight graze on my knee, but my poor bike was effed up. Had big crowd gather round me then ambulance came, I was fine and just wanted to slink away from embarrassment. Then In grade 4 I went to a mates place after school, John Carr was his name, he bought a duck egg to school and I was eager to check out his duck lol, as soon as I got there I recognised the reddish/orange HQ station wagon then I recognised his mum. I hoped she didn't remember me. As an adult now I realise Mrs Carr sure as hell recognised me just as I remembered her, poor woman wouldn't have forgotten the boy on the bike in City Rd. I hope she never got in any legal strife from it. It's funny cause I survived, hit by a car driven by Mrs Carr lol. Beenleigh is such a sad place now compared to what it was in the '70s and '80s.

well I remember travelling to the Coast through Beenleigh from the early 1950’s. as kids we knew every milestone. The large Bunya pine half way along Main Street on the left as you entered Beenleigh. It was known in our family as “The Beenleigh Tree”. The lovely large pruned Bouganvilleas in the shape of baskets also on the left on the footpath. The Bakery on the right in Main Street in town with the steps leading to the door. (Always a stop on the way home:). The children’s clothing factory that I can’t recall the name on (was it Ton Teen) in the fibro buildings at the Mt Warren end of Main Street. Happy memories of countless trips down to the Gold Coast.

The pine tree was in the yard of J.A Savage and later his son Alfred Savage who had the store . The bakery was owned by Bernie Farrelly and originally on that site it was Schweitzer's bakery. The clothing factory was called Infanteen.

I remember going through Beenleigh on the old Pacific Highway as a young child on the way to the coast. It was definitely an experience… the surface was bumpy in parts (like a roll-a coaster or was it our car’s suspension) The road went through marshlands which are prob housing estates now..not the slick 6 lane highway of today that’s for sure ..😂

Nice journey mate. Great to see others taking an interest in our local history. Just out of curiosity, what camera did you use to shoot this video? I noticed you uploaded the video in (Auto) 360.

G’day Rob, I shoot and upload everything in 4K, I normally schedule the video to drop a few hours after upload so 4K can process. Yesterday the platform was being a bit lazy and caught up to the release time so the first few hours were in low definition. In that episode I used the DJI Pocket2 and an old GoPro Hero 7.

@@GdayitsPete Ah ok, I was wondering what happened. Glad it's sorted now. I've never set a scheduled release before but will look into it. Any plans yet for your next video?

Forget Yatala Pies, back in 1869 when I was a youngen Golden Top Pies were sold at the Southport Pool and they were square and the best in the world. But there's no history of em.
