I have a nostalgic attachment to MGS4 since I didn't own a PS3 and had to beat the game via a hotel PS3 lol. I really love how it wraps up everything for the entire saga.

@@KayJulersI had a similar experience my first play through. I didn't own a ps3 and had a friend from out of town staying over the weekend for some event. So I was like any chance you can bring your ps3, he did and I rented msg4. Stayed up 24 hours and beat it in 1 sitting, bloody great experience.

@@thescorpion2758 I don't think it's the worst. It was just Kojima trying to wrap everything as he was ready to pass it along so he put so much cutscenes. It won an award for having the longest cutscenes. The worst one was the twin snakes for being too easy with fancy graphics. The original was clunky and it has tension as mistakes is quite punishing.

I agree 100%. Metal Gear is the greatest (IMO) video game series of all time. As a bit of an "Old Snake" I started out as a kid back in '87 with the first Metal Gear when a friend who couldn't beat the game gave it to me to try and I haven't looked back since! So it's always cool to me to see younger generations discovering it. And you did an fantastic job in expressing what makes the series so great. EXCELLENT video, man! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 "You're pretty good." 😉

My personal recommendation for order of play is: 1. MGS1 2. MGS2 3. MGS3 The reason being that MGS1 has a great starting point where you don't need to know anything of the past in the story or gameplay. Starting with MGS3 may be a great way to make someone an MGS fan, but I think MGS1 also does that....and more. You see, it's easier to start in order of gameplay/game-creation than story, especially for the MGS franchise because of the gradual improvement to its gameplay from MGS1 to MGS2 to MGS3. A new person may have some struggle to adapt to with removed control elements if playing in any other order. There's also the important argument of past game references, nods, and easter eggs, which feel sooooo good when you get it. For example (spoilers) Raiden's mask and the conversations on it in MGS3, or Ivan from MGS3 and the comments by The Boss. Or, TIME PARADOX in MGS3. (end spoilers) What do they mean?? Of course, it feels so amazing in your chest when you pick up on these references after playing the previous entries in the franchise. These things were designed this way by Kojima-san and I think it's the only true way to fully enjoy the series, and any other way means you're missing out on the great feeling of experiencing those Kojima-esque secrets, commentaries, references, &c. Just my personal thoughts, coming from another MGS fanatic. Great video. I agree with a lot of things and it's so exciting to see my most favourite game with my most favourite Snake being remade in Delta and with the same voice acting performances. (I probably would have ignored the game if there were new voice acting. These people's voices are a part of my memory and life while I was Naked Snake and to hear anything else would mean I'm in a different universe.)

Btw, I think the MGS2 and MGS3 in the Master Collection will have to have different controls or else it will be basically unplayable on the PS5 with the original controls. That's because the PS2 and PS3 controllers' face buttons were pressure-sensitive. That hardware feature was removed in the DualShock 4 and the DualSense. PS2/PS3 Controls: Press lightly on square to aim. Release square to not aim. Press lightly to aim and then press harder to shoot. Controls impossible on PS4 and PS5.

This is an absolutly fantastic video. I am currently playing through MGSV and I am having such a great time. I just hope that Konami finds a way to remake MGS4 for PS5, I love that game. Give me hope thinking the master collect is titled volume 1. Maybe a volume 2 with Peacewalker, Portable Ops and 4. Rising would be cool too :P this is a series that deserves to be re master on every console generation. They cannot be forgotten. But personally I do not hold Raiden on the same level as Solid Snake and Big Boss. Those two are so iconic

My headcannon is that TwinSnakes is a re-telling for MGS events by Otacon... since he sees Snake as a superhero, his actions in the game wouldnt be too out of character :)

I think this is a good way to see it. Not the first time I have thought of something like this in media actually. The Legend of Zelda could also be explained in a similar way; the games have different artstyles, but the locations are the same, but also not quite exactly. There's legendary characters that make appearance from one game to the next à la Final Fantasy. Link is a very "blank canvas" of a character, so people can self-insert. It really feels like you're playing through the re-telling of a Legend, rather than a objective and factual story.

I am so thrilled about a MSG3 remake, as it was/is one of my ALLTIME favorite games. Only competing with stuff like Final Fantasy VII, IX and X. I actually started out with Twin Snakes since I never own a Playstation until this year but still had access to a Wii/Gamecube and getting it at a used game store for $60 was the best decision I ever did. And I actually beat 3 for the first time on the 3DS and I actually prefer that version due to the crouch walk and don’t mind the framerate in some places since it can work in your favor in certain parts. Plus, having the HD collection and both V games on 360 and also Rising was another great decision since I still had a 360 at the time. Very excited for Delta (but nervous as well since it’s my favorite game of all time) and also see what surprises the Master Collection will have going forward after the recent announcement

You could also get the GOG copy of Metal Gear, which is a port of the MGS3 version instead of the DOS version. So, I said this on a different video- and I think it deserves to be said here- since you mentioned Metal Gear Solid (PSX) and Twin Snakes (GameCube) as possible jumping in points as a way to start the series. I would also like to submit Ghost Babel (Gameboy Advance) with one HUGE caveat… None of them are truly the Canonical (historically accurate) records of what really happened during that period in Solid Snakes timeline. Think of who is the narrator. One of them may be narrated by Snake, or Maybe Occelot. One of them is being told from Otacon’s (heavily anime inspired action setpiece) ideas of what Snake did to take down the Hind and what the Ninja fight on SOUNDED like from his piss soaked spot in the locker. And the other is the Ai generated and heavily doctored and recontextualized version of Shadow Moses that Raiden played through, with all references to Liquid Snake, Les Enfants Terribles, Occelot, Meryl, Otacon, AND OF COURSE FOX DIE… all conveniently left out in order to “brief” Raiden of what they need him to believe really happened in Shadow Moses as an “alternative history” Why would the “Colonel” who Raiden talks to want anything that happened there to be known to Raiden? Even when Nastasha Romanenko published her book about the truth of what happened there- Colonel denies it, and calls it Trash. But we’re lead to the understanding that Raiden already played through Snakes missions as a part of VR Training regimen. If he had, he’d know that the colonel secretly used Snake as a vector to spread FoxDie under direct orders from the pentagon, and that Snake and Liquid were genetic pawns of some grander conspiracy to create super soldiers… and that Occelot, now working for Solidus was a spy for the President George Sears who he would already know was his father if it was all left wide open. So to summarize, Ghost Babel is the events of Shadow Moses edited to be a more palatable half truth so that Raiden could be trained on the events, but not the truth, of the Shadow Moses incident. Twin Snakes is the love letter of Otacon to his Anime obsessions as retold to Sunny on board the Nomad as what he *thinks* Snake did during Shadow Moses, pieced together from what he saw, what snake told him and what his web mind imagined. And Metal Gear Solid vanilla is either the memories of Shadow Moses from Occelot or Snakes POV but perhaps the closest thing to the objective truth.

MGSV is honestly Hideo Kojima's best work gameplay wise. The story is bad, but the gameplay is just fucking amazing. The Open World areas give lots of options for stealth previously not possible. The game also allows for completely loud action if you don't want to stealth, which is really fucking fun if you capture a tank, even if they're comically underpowered. The FOB missions provide more classic Metal Gear gameplay with the addition of the amazing gadgets of V.

Besides the given negatives of the redone cutscenes and dialogue, I have heard of two other negatives about Twin Snakes people gloss over. 1. Is that the controls of MGS2 backported to 1 mess with the balance of the game (for example, Ocelots fight becomes stupid easy in first person). The second is the one I find most aggregious of all, is that the entire soundtrack was remade w/o reference to the original. So tracks like the classic alert theme have been removed. Feel free to correct me if that's misinfo. I haven't been able to play the game myself since it's locked to the GCN. I think it's still worth playing from what I've seen, but only once one has checked the original first.

MG2 and MGS2 aren't on GoG (any more), never saw MG2 on there personally, but MGS2 was sadly removed when they pulled it from consoles and all that a while back. If you have it already it's still possible to download, but people can't buy it any more.

This video is just what I was looking for, because this games series are way too confusing, and that's why I never got into it, but the action this game series have is what I want to experience, I wanted something new. After trying out Death Stranding for a while, I really wanted to try out other Hideo Kojima products, because that game mesmerised me, it's so good.

I also started with Metal Gear Solid 3D! It’s still my favourite version of Snake Eater. Not the best version, but definitely my favourite. From there I started playing the other Metal gear games in chronological order (story wise). I was lucky that MGSV released just after I finished Peace Walker ^^

The way you describe the mix of crazy and serious/emotional in the story reminds me a lot of Yakuza. Is it really?
@KayJulers
@KayJulers Жыл бұрын
While I haven’t played Yakuza yet, I’ve seen a bunch of goofy stuff from the side content and have always thought, “I feel like I’d love this series with all wacky stuff you can do that the characters take so seriously like Metal Gear.” Portable Op’s gameplay is pretty rough if you started with that, so I feel another game might click with you more.

Why did you put the peacewalker before mgs4 in the solid order and then say that the peacewalker will spoil mgs4 in the chronological order? I'm trying to find the most optimal play order from a story perspective since I've never played a metal gear game before

Very nice video. If I had to summarize MG in one s sentence I would simply say "It's not meaningless. " It is not just a game to play to spend your free time, you are supposed to learn about the world, about history, and art and science and the things that make the world the way it is. All the suoernatural elements in the series exist mostly for coolness reasons. People always think the series is filled with pretentious blah blah, but I think this is just a sign of general cultural decay. People nowadays lack objective standards on what is good and bad art and don't realize what a huge amount of skill is required to come up with something like Metal Gear.

I honestly wouldn't recommend Metal Gear as the first title due to how dependent the player may be on a walkthrough. Without that the game can become frustrating. I usually recommend playing MG and MG2 last and only if you love the series or are just plain curious. For me I'd either recommend MGS or MGS3 depending if people want to play in chronical order or release order.
@KayJulers
@KayJulers Жыл бұрын
I think that's fair! Although I find it to be the hardest to sell of the three due to its relative simplicity and old school, cryptic nature, I still like including it in the recommendations since some people might want to start at the beginning and I feel it's best played before MGS4 and MGSV as both of their conclusions are strengthened by seeing the events of the MSX games, especially the pre-final boss dialogue in MG2 that I love.

No hate but my first Metal Gear was NES on 64 in 1 NES Multicart on GBA using Nintendo DS Lite gift by my uncles and aunt back in 2012 cant save even if there was option because the board inside doens't come with battery, I never finished due to my DS Lite have only 2 hours but know many parts of game such as grenade launcher. 3DS beaten by me later back in 2021, owning 2nd hand disc of MGS4 never finished my Console died itself.
