Small point from a model-maker whose partner is a building surveyor. The lead flashing in the valleys (where two roof surfaces meet) should be under the tiles, not on top of the tiles. Either put the foil down first or - instead - use strips of 10 thou plasticard instead of the foil. The plasticard can be laid as two separate strips and the tile edges can go over it when you tile the roof. With regard to the card tiles curling when you put a water-based material on it, I have worked with thick card for many years and I like to 'plaster' it with PVA, very fine sand and plaster washes to soften and create texture. My first go at this 30+ years ago was a disaster as the cardboard went to mush. Since then I have always used a polyurethane gloss varnish - well thinned with white spirit - on the bare cardboard. The poly soaks in and hardens the cardboard almost like resin into glass fibre matting. The result is a harder and more durable cardboard which is now water resistant and will take any water, PVA, plaster, acrylic paint mix without flinching. Barry

please make a followup to your 'warhammer is for everyone' video and explain if you still think that we should let the bigots stay so they can be 'educated'. please understand that assuming a minority should educate a bigot is itself a type of supremacy. I really liked your channel, and id like to come back and watch again, but I just cant give views to someone who feels that way.
@GoobertownHobbies3 жыл бұрын
@@Winter420 Arch seems like he might live his whole life as a bigot. There's no use trying to 'educate' him. That being said, many of Arch's 240,000 subscribers stumbled onto the path of hate thanks to the YT algorithm. Many of them still have a shot at maturing into functional adults... but they need better friends and role models than the gamergate crew. If I can get a handful of 16 year old 'gamers' to watch me paint mins instead of watching Jeremy Hambly rage about SJWs... that's a massive win. I think it's important that there is always a path back from hatred.
@Winter4203 жыл бұрын
@@GoobertownHobbies that is a fair response. my initial reservation to your video was only because it felt like the burden was being placed back upon each of us to educate them. as a minority, its been expected of me to 'explain' myself, and its just never a great feeling. What I now understand is that you are not putting the burden on us, but standing as an ally. thank you for taking the time to respond to me, I will resume watching your channel. :)

You know, one of the things I love most about your videos is that you have a way of making everything feel very manageable. There's a channel I watch called Paepercuts and... I mean, the guy's a genius. And he's breaking it down bit by bit, but goddamn it's intimidating! You videos are really good for getting new or relapsed terrain makers (I used to do it when I worked at GW but got out of the habit) to pick it up!

I rather like these videos that show a part of a build. Gives a perspective on just how long it can take to complete a project. I would love to know the actual hours spent - gives us a sense of how long it takes. Obviously you would do it faster than non-pros like me but knowing number of hours to get so far into a project is enlightening.

For the leading on roofs etc try aluminium foil tape. It looks the business and you don't have to try to apply adhesive to it as its self adhesive. Also great for doing metal sheeting overlays with rivets etc as you can add rivets from the back with a sharp pencil or dull scribe.

Scissors- I'm right handed but I have to sometimes cut with scissors using my left hand during my job as a theatre nurse. What you need to do is pull in with your thumb towards your palm. This brings the scissor blades closer together and makes them cut better. Don't waste your money on left handed scissors. No left handed surgeons use left handed scissors. They learn how to use normal scissors in their left hand.

One thing I've used to recreate stone for larger, weather exposed projects is use lightweight spackle (Pollyfilla in the UK) and mix it with a small amount of concrete or mortar.. it dries with a sandy texture, slightly grey and is lightweight and durable. it might not be as cheap as your method though, but it might also be less time consuming as it goes on like Vallejo red oxide paste but smoother.
