Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell

How did everything get started?
Has the universe a beginning or was it here since forever? Well, evidence suggests that there was indeed a starting point to this universe we are part of right now. But how can this be? How can something come from nothing? And what about time? We don't have all the answers yet so let's talk about what we know.
Also, we try to make this one not depressing. Tell us if we succeeded.
BY THE WAY. We have a website now. We'll try to blog from time to time, show you guys how we make the videos and give more insight to our process. Also we sell stuff. We really don't know where this whole kurzgesagt stuff leads us. But we are really thankful for all the attention and positive feedback and yeah, maybe we can make this our jobs -- it would be pretty nice and we could do more content each month. But we'll see. For now, thank you very much everybody for making this little adventure possible.

2 questions... 1. All of the Big Bang videos I’ve seen (including this one) visualize the expansion unidirectionally - but I would assume the expansion is omnidirectional. Why do the graphics always show the expansion directionally? 2. For a galaxy, solar system or planet on the leading edge of the expansion - what would they see when they look into the sky? Would half of it just be completely dark? Or would the leading edge be reflective (like a fish looking at the top of the surface of the water from underneath?). I’m sure we don’t know - but what do the leading theories speculate about this?

Love how the explanation begins with "let's explore what we know" and finishes with [beyond that] "we don't know and maybe we never will". That's science. It's not about taking for certain something it doesn't know. It's not about CREATING answers; it's about FINDING anwsers. And also temporarily accepting to say "i don't know".

The scientific community is full of lies Scientific theory: The universe evolved from the increase (degeneration) of entropy, concealing the contradictions of creationism. Because the false evidence of the Big Bang proves that the universe has been increasing in entropy. How does the energy spreading to evolve the universe? Even if there is gravity, the gravitational force of the star will degenerate and become smaller and smaller because of the diffusion of energy and matter. Quantum mechanics is used at the micro level, and thermodynamics is used at the macro level. They are not the same. It is impossible for a cup of hot water to separate into cold and warm water by itself when quantum mechanics. Both cosmic radiation and cosmic redshift are evidence of degradation, indicating that there is no universe evolution, the scientist said entropy increase. But they also acknowledged the evolution of the universe. lie Stars evolve, but their gravity also degenerates, becoming smaller and smaller. After the star dies, the gravitational force will not disappear immediately, it will disappear slowly, and will evolve before it disappears. Aliens are also a lie self-directed and performed by the scientific community. There is a video of a scientist dissecting an alien. The alien's eyes are made of paper and there is cloth in the body. Universe evolution insults mechanics: The evolution of the solar system is that the gravity of the sun evolved the solar system, but I have never seen the gravitational theory that gravity can evolve antigravity, that is, the gravitation of eight planet. The gravity of the sun should interfere with their evolution, causing them to eventually fail to form. The same goes for other galaxies in the universe Universe evolution joke: energy transfer from low to high energy, jokes, pseudoscience. Even if there is gravity, the gravitational force of the star will degenerate and become smaller and smaller because of the diffusion of energy and matter. The state of stars today proves

I see a lot of believers trying to downplay science and dunk on non-believers by saying "something can't come from nothing" (not that this is something non-believers actually adhere to). But if you think about it, it actually those who believe and argue for God that believe exactly this. God is usually argued to exist outside space and time. That is the equivalent of existing 'never' and 'nowhere'. Basically this God, for all intents and purposes, does not exist. You cannot differentiate between that which is without time and space, and that which doesn't exist. God is nothing. Yet he made the universe. Something came from nothing in this case.

I've read some religious comments under this video, so I felt like analysing them. 1.) "Nothing comes from nothing. Every event has a cause, so the big bang was the creation of 'god'." If every event B has to have a cause A, what is the cause of "god" (or the big bang) then? Conclusion: The causality principle does not work for an argument to prove either "god" or the big bang. Furthermore the big bang is supposed to have no cause per definiton because it is the beginning of space and time itself. (It's like wondering where the end of the world is. There is none, so it makes no sense.) Besides that many of you would probably assign this property to their definition of "god" as well. 2.) "How can the sun, the earth, life and the consciousness of humans evolve from nothing? It's so wonderful, there has to be a creator." If something is wonderful and you can't explain why, implifying that "god" made it does not work as prove for an argument. Sure, there are questions we can't answer. But concluding that it is "god" is simply wrong. Why does it have to be specifically "god" then? (This is called the "god of the gaps"-argument.) 3.) "The big bang theory denies the existence of a creator. Science tries to prove that 'god' does not exist." Why should the big bang exclude "god" and vice versa? It's a general misconception about science. Most (good) scientist won't answer the question "does god exist?" or will tell you they don't know. There will never be prove or disprove and we can only speculate about it. Science only tries to describe the universe as detailed as possible. Yes, sometimes the result is that the phenomenon can be explained without "god" but it's never the intention to deny "god" in the first place. In the end 2 quotes by Jim Al-Khalil I really like. "A lot of people think that gaining knowledge about the world and how the world works detracts from its mystery, detracts from its beauty. Ignorance is bliss. The more we understand, the more we can appreciate, the more we can find wonder, whereas remaining in ignorance is just darkness, that's just confusion. Knowledge, understanding, enlightenment are always better than ignorance." "There's this notion that somehow scientists have this sterile, clinical, logical, rational view of the world that leaves no room for mystery and awe and magic and wonder. On the contrary, everything I learn about how the world is, tells me it's full of magic and wonder. The idea that Newton discovered that the invisible force pulling the apple down to the ground is exactly the same force keeping the moon in orbit around the earth is utterly profound, it's utterly awe-inspiring."

@Interceptor Scientists explain the beginning of the universe in a theory called "Big Bang". They say that the whole universe was one mass, and exploded spreading the substance, forming the galaxies and stars. But they have found that the universe has web-like structure! So, they speak about "cosmic web". The Holy Quran refer to this fact in Surah Al-Anbiya'a, Allah All Mighty says: “Do not the Unbelievers see That the heavens and the earth Were joined together (as one Unit of Creation), before We clove them asunder?” [Al-Anbiya'a 21:30]. Now let us think: How could a book, which be revealed 1400 years ago, contain this profound scientific fact?

Revelation 1:8 says that Jesus is the alpha and the omega. Luke and revelation is the ending times, and Jesus is returning back. So are you going to submit your life to him or no? Narrow is the path that leads to the gates of heaven, but only few people find it. The gates that is the path to destruction is where many people find it! Jesus loves you SO MUCH! @quasiZote

I think that's an interesting question to think about. I personally like "the non-existance" as a definition. The problem is, that the big bang theory, as it is presented here, could give people the idea that the universe has a border, "an outside of the universe" or "a time before the big bang". But talking about an event if the universe is not existing doesn't make a lot of sense. Furthermore a few people believe that the universe is contained in something else (e.g. in nothingness) and therefore is finite because it's expanding. But the universe is and always has been infinite. There is neither a border nor "an outside". The thing with infinity is, you never run out of it and it can just expand in itself. The universe is literally all there is. When people are using "nothing" in this context they are still referring to something existing. That's why I think it's more of a lingustic issue than a problem with the big bang theory.

Purely for the sake of explaining things. Can we make a tiny metal ball into singlarity? Could the CBM result from some unknow events other than the "BB" ? If BB did happen, can we enjoy the clear skys today? Why is it so hard to say we don't know yet and keep looking...
@lagato-gp3mh
@lagato-gp3mh 3 ай бұрын
The CMB is impossible to regard as anything else. Seen from literally every single patch of the sky, its redshift from infrared to microwave explains it is as distant from us as can be. And here's the thing about the singularity, i dont think its real and many physicists don't think it is real. Every time we have introduced an infinity, it meant that our theory of how the universe works was insufficient. And here's the thing; i AGREE that we shouldnt answer away everything. However the evidence for the big bang cannot be disregarded as "we don't know". We know very well that the universe is expanding because of the redshift of galaxies getting larger the further we travel away from them. We know that the hydrogen-helium ratios of the universe is EXACTLY as the big bang theory predicts. This hydrogen to helium fusion cannot be explained unless the universe was very hot and dense, which certainly would've triggered fusion reactions across the entire universe, giving it a reasonable amount of helium. Many people are mean to others who aren't educated on this topic, but i'll gladly say i invite you to the wonders of the universe.

Thank you for this wonderful video. It is so uplifting and inspiring. I am a physicist, teaching in a public school, and everyday I question how does life came into being and what is our purpose. And the statement in this video I think is the best answer to it- we are the universe way of experiencing oneself. Why bother? I am just from a bunch of quarks and gluons just trying to expand (in terms of knowledge) and be a source of help for other bunch of quarks and gluons to pave their way to become " visible light".

NEW VIDEO! THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING - THE BIG BANG The Beginning of Everything -- The Big Bang Has the universe a beginning or was it here since forever? Well, evidence suggests that there was indeed a starting point to this universe we are part of right now. But how can this be? How can something come from nothing? And what about time? We don't have all the answers yet so let's talk about what we know. We tried very hard to make a not depressing video this time, hope we succeeded ;) Oh, and we have a website now! :D Kurzgesagt.org It is not super finished right now, we really would appreciate feedback. German video will be published later this week or next week. What do you think about this video? In April we will take a look at Nuclear Energy and check out if it is worth it, or not.

SCIENCE IN 3 2 1 It is possible that we are living inside a black hole, and that is the universe. A black hole that is in another universe, that may be another color, or might be inside another black hole,etc. So how does this contribute to the big bang theory? Its simple. There might be such thing as a "White Hole." A White Hole is the exact opposite of a black hole, it forms after a black hole, spitting out all matter it gained in it's life as a black hole. The Big Bang might have been a universe that was inside another black hole, but that black hole decayed due to Hawking Radiation. So the Big Bang could have been the White Hole forming and it spitting out all matter into another Black Hole,hence forming the universe.

+Kaila Lorraine time is indeed a tool humans have measured or 'discovered' but apparently, somehow time is affected by all this space, relativity, and mass. (I just know this for a fact, not so much as the detail) I personally theorize that time is a measurement of the transfer of energy, so in this idea, when time "slows down" or "speeds up" due to the effect of gravity it's really us just watching light come to our eyes and processing the stimuli slower than we would anywhere else which contrasts to the idea that an invisible force we call 'time' slows down or speeds up. So if we wanted to build a clock that wasn't effected by the changing of the rate of energy transfer, we would use something besides conventional energy, assuming that something action-producing besides our energy exists. Hopefully, I can have faith that people won't bash me for theorizing while not having a degree in quatumphysics but instead get thoughtful comments on to why this is false or a misconception.

@G.O.A.T BluePrint okay so the saying "we are the universe's way of experiencing itself" is basically saying we are the universe. So what he is saying is, if we are the universe, how can we know what we want to be if the universe doesn't even know what it is? Confusing but it makes sense

Great stuff! Fascinating for sure. The only sticking point for me though is how can we, staying true to the laws of logic and honest with our philosophy, believe that pure nothing, in a totally random and chaotic universe, resulted in something as simple as a flower, let alone the non-material human mind?
