"Injustice is about the system. Racism is about the heart. The Church needs to address is as a purposefully fight, not some mystical force in the air that's not that bad."
Join Dan Cathy, Lecrae, and Louie Giglio for an open and honest conversation around how racism has plagued our city for generations, and the steps we can all take to confront it head-on in our church, our neighborhoods and our hearts.

AMEN BROTHER PREACH!!! I loved this, "Well, for starters he's go to megachurches and turn over a few thousand tables." The single largest contributing factor where the church left me and thereby I stopped going was when I asked the pastor where all of the church's programs were for single dads who had been KICKED OUT of their children's lives by the mother of their children who also used the courts to steal his income under the guise of "child support." I explained that nearly all churches have multiple ministries to help "single moms" (by choice I might add) while only demonizing fathers and lecturing them for "not being a part of their children's lives" after the mother used the "Family courts" to kick the dad out. I also said that churches shouldn't be encouraging these single mothers and that they needed to call them out for breaking up families as they do and for the immoral action of stealing the father's income thru the courts. Think about it, they act like these single moms by choice are martyrs when they CHOSE to be single in the case of divorce (87% nationwide filed by women then) and they took the house, the car, the kids, and so much of the father's money via "child support" that the dads went bankrupt, were homeless in many cases, and financially destitute in most cases. The pastor, who I really respected prior to that conversation got extremely defensive when I pointed out how wrong all of those CSM (child support moms) were for doing what that did and that the church shouldn't be rewarding their disgusting behavior. He ended the call because he was so taken aback by "how hard I was coming at him" and I sat there thinking to myself, EVERY "Christian" church in America is completely blind to the horrible realities of life as a single father, and that not ONE pastor could see why it was wrong to pander to CSMs who in many cases didnt even work because they didnt need to due to how much "child support" they were stealing from the fathers through the courts.

I understand the sentiment. I really do. But do you recall Jesus kneeling before the Apostles and washing their feet? Literally, God...who was to be killed by man...kneeling before, and washing the feet of man, who is His creation. You're better than that? Don't get me wrong, I'm not sure how I feel about this whole thing in the video. But to make such a blanket statement in opposition to the example of Christ is kind of suspect.
@mitcharett2586

@@kyleg8098 It was an act of humility, repentance, reconciliation, and service. Mr. Cathy was imitating his Lord Jesus, who said : If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all (Mark 9:35). Jesus demonstrated that by washing His apostles feet at the Last Supper. Foot washing is still practiced in many churches today.Years ago, the Pope washed the feet of prisoners, and a Muslim woman. As a Christian, I try to be humble, patient, and compassionate. As a believer in Christ, my Lord, I am a man under His authority. If He puts it in my heart to wash another's feet, shine someone's shoes,or give alms on the street to a homeless person, I do it and leave the results to Him.

The suggestion to call "white privilege" into "white blessing" is, however well intended it might have been, one of dumbest possible things that could be said in a conversation about this. Maybe we need to hear the word 'privilege' and be put on our heels a bit, rather than be pandered to and told that God showed us great favor as a result of racial oppression. If you're talking to white Christians struggling to understand this issue and may have subtle racial biases, it won't help to shift the language and spiritualize it. It doesn't help to validate it with God's hand of approval.

acknowledging a fact in order to move a society forward isn't pushing guilt on anyone. its exactly what it is, acknowledgment. only people who are probably racist/bigoted feel this "guilt" you speak of while most rational humans take this acknowledgement of white supremacy for what it is and invoke for a change. In no way shape or form should you feel guilty for anything you had no part of. however turning a blind eye to the obvious reality should make you feel guilty. Does that make sense? @@IAmisMaster Though unnecessary purporting of guilt/shame confessions, there really was substance about caring to listen to the realities of the black/brown experience. Mr. Cathy shared of not just focusing on his diners being burned, but instead seeing the exasperation and hopelessness expressed by POC. Traumatized individuals react and behave differently than those in more regulated, comfortable life circumstances. LeCrae makes mention of this among colored people, which our society needs to acknowledge and figure out how to heal our communities. (Believe me, I know it to be a real thing: I practically begged my family member not to take in a deeply traumatized young one due to the extreme, erratic, uncontrollable behavior exhibited... Treating that young one in a normal fashion just didn’t work (For instance, calmly but firmly commanding, “Come down from the tree; we need to go home…” as the child darted everywhere -- possibly in reaction to having been helped off a hayride by a nice man.) It took acceptance, listening and coddling the broken personhood to eventually bring a healing that is amazing: a more regulated, balanced soul who is functional, loving and kind… and responsive to interaction in a “normal” way.

As an immigrant in Atlanta I experienced racism from black people, particularly the older ones. But I also experienced kindness from some. I noticed they share the same skin color but embrace different approach on how to treat others who didn’t look like them. Thus I choose to deal on individual basis and not label a group based on my experience no matter how legitimate it is. Culture and character over color. Facts over feelings. It’s heartbreaking to see anyone, regardless of skin color, to put color over any rationale. The pastor disseminates the term injustice brashly. I hope he is thinking of the officers who are charged unjustly too. There was lack of mercy for sure, but injustice in adhering to lawful protocol? I’m saddened over this trajectory in Atlanta I agree that changes can take profound impact in church though as racism is truly a heart issue, regardless of the color of the person

As a white male Christian leader who has enormously benefited from Western Evangelicalism, Louie Giglio's attempt to make 'white privilege' more digestible by calling it 'white blessing' not only fails to communicate his point, but reveals the enormous fallacy of prioritizing the comfort of white Evangelicals in a discussion that should prioritize the value, healing, and language of marginalized people. "White blessing" reinforces the idea that the benefits of racism are ordained by God. "White blessing" unnecessarily and wrongly centers the conversation around white people. "White blessing" re-traumatizes BIPOC Christians / former Christians. Giglio has since apologized. Here's the point: Hand the mic to BIPOC and let them lead the conversation.

I'd like to insert a hypothesis: What if more "black" churches and "white" churches began considering merging with each other? Church mergers are often how communities come together in a very real and genuine way. If we form bonds through faith and stop embracing comfort, then could we who are in Christ, actually be a light on a hill? Could we unite in Christ as one family in service to our Father and the new nation we pursue. Where there is no sin, and therefore, we, by God's grace, force racism into obsolescence.

Demetrius Middleton because no man owes another man this because of his color. Every man is different and you aren’t guilty of the sins of past people. God sees you as an individual and doesn’t judge you based off of another. If this is the case every single person of every ethnicity would be guilty of the same thing. It’s awkward because this man is generalizing two different groups of people as if they are all guilty of past sins and the other as if they are owed something when there are plenty from that group that say they aren’t oppressed and don’t deal with oppression. This man is not a Christian and the guy letting him wipe his shoes isn’t a Christian either. This is beyond ridiculous and cringy and if you support this you are not a Christian either. I bet you can’t name one reason you are oppressed or one right you don’t have that others have that’s not based on your assumption that’s made up in your mind. More whites are killed by police officers and more people in your community kill each other than any other race or police officers combined. There is no outrage for that. It’s all selective biases to push an agenda of communism, killing the nuclear family, and destroying western civilization and culture disguised as the BLM movement. Go read BLM website. If you consider yourself a Christian and agree with those values then I hate to tell you that you’re evil and now a Christian. Wake up and think for yourself!

I've watched this video multiple times. And I think that because of the age that we are in and a lot of the circumstances surrounding it, and a lot of the public outrage much of which I completely understand, I think because of the current situation people are twisting things that were said in this interview to mean things that they didn't intend them to mean I heard the multiple times talking about the gospel. I heard them multiple times talking about how instead of making it only about race, what it needs to be about is all of us Rising above Race and viewing each other with the Dignity of the image of God. And then allowing that to affect the way that we deal with each other, the way that we deal with people of different races. No I understand how certain things could have been misinterpreted, but I didn't get that the gist of anything that was said was that somebody owes somebody something because of the color of their skin. This video is over an hour long. So so sure, if people want to pick a fight and just wanting to find something to be mad about, sure you can find certain things that were said and make them to be what the entire video was about. But I frequently heard each of them multiple times refer to what I said initially. I didn't get that the gist of this was to kowtow to One race or another or that one race owes another race something. That is not the gist of this video.

@@Chasecka regarding the BLM movement, for some reason you have just assumed that I support BLM. You're acting like I am in support of BLM. You act like I feel oppressed, personally. Where are you getting these things from. I abhor BLM. You seem more interested in just twisting everything into something that you can do in abject to so that you can spew your agenda. I don't know how you took my question to now mean that I feel oppressed and that I support BLM and that I somehow need a lesson on all of these things. And then you end with wake up and go think for myself? Before my last two comments I hadn't explained any of my beliefs yet you just automatically assumed things because of the color of my skin. All I did was ask a question and you then took that as an opportunity to take my question as somehow being in support of BLM or as proof that I feel oppressed or basically that I'm a racist black person. You don't even bother to ask me what I actually believe about things, you just went ahead and assumed. But I'm the one who needs to wake up? Interesting

If it weren’t about race then that shouldn’t have been done. The rapper should have told him to stop because he didn’t owe that to him. Mario Yanez It isn’t illogical. It takes extensive training, education, specializations, certifications, etc. for airline pilots, traffic controllers, doctors, lawyers, etc. Most police agencies require at mGED and being at least 19 years of age, six months of training, certification and that’s that. People’s lives are at stake, and the decisions officers make are critical to ensuring that they uphold protecting the public. The issue of Raysheon’s murder isn’t the fact that the officer used deadly force- it’s the fact that he had an array of options that he could have used. He could have impounded his vehicle, taken the keys, given him a citation. He could have let him walk home. He could have dropped him to his sister’s house, since he said she lived around the corner. He could have take him for the night to sleep it off. Many officers have done so. The officer could have used any of the deescalation techniques that he was trained to do. Instead, he escalated the situation (yes, he is responsible for that, because as the person of authority, he had and lost entire control of the situation, period), and a man’s life was lost. It isn’t the ending that people are upset about- it’s the array options the officer had in his ability to prevent it from going there in the first place. Additionally, you talk about thousands of malpractice cases- you don’t hear about them because the doctors/hospitals that are involved usually have to pay for their own insurance, lawyers are involved, settlements are made, doctors lose their licenses, if necessary, and if it’s especially egregious or a public problem, then it’s criminal and brought to public light. Doctors and hospitals are held responsible for their actions, and pay heavily for insurance to cover them in the event someone dies. The same with all the other professions - local police (not federal, bc even they require at a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, a long and detailed vetting process, and rigorous training before they even see the light of day) - local police officers are the only profession that require so little education and are given life-or-death scenarios- police reform is necessary, hence the point of Chris Rock’s sketch.

It's time for more churches to have these conversations...and for Christians to be called out when there's an attempt to redefine the narrative of race relations in this country and this world. That word white privilege is just what it says "you have privilege based on not only on the color of your skin but on what the color of your skin represents in the context of white supremacy. The Church is called to promote racial reconciliation and become better stewards of the ministry of reconciliation. Be very careful when you insinuate that "Your curse becomes our blessing" . White people "Check your Privilege" you are not blessed if the life you live is based on the continued subjugation of black people. Lecrae said it best.. don't try to switch the word because it causes you to stumble or trips you up...the same became a corner stone which causes the pharisees and sadducees to stumble. Jesus didn't change his mission, because His light was to much for the nation of Israel. He called sin what it was and said men love darkness rather than light lest their deeds be exposed. In other words stop trying to build comfort place, be real and sit in that uncomfortable space and become allies for black people like Christ does for us as our advocate. Pure religion that's pleasing in the site of the father was explained well in the book of James. It's time for Christians to stop politicizing and spiritualizing a much needed conversation because it affects our relationship with God and our relationship with each other.

Joshua Daniel t , No, that would have been just fine. Instead, the outward racism in his heart is so engrained that as an old man he thinks licking another mans boots is some sort of reparation. It isn’t. It only shows that he views blacks as sub par to whites. He thinks whites need to take care of those handicapped blacks. Its a horrible example to set for youth today, black or white. America didnt create slavery, but we are the only country in the history of the world to end it via a civil war amongst ourselves. The first slave owner in the USA was black. The word slave comes from the latin word ‘slavic’, b/c whites were first slaves when they lost a battle. Most slaves in americas past were not brought from africa, as it was too costly a journey. Most were brought from south and central america, and initially were even various indentured servants. Also, at the height of the civil war, Louisiana had more black slave owners than white slave owners. In fact, a freed black slave that moved to Canada during the civil war, became the largest land owner in all of Canada and yes, also owned slaves. History is not cut and dry as this chickfila ceo would have you think. He is a racist and is pandering to the ignorant, and creating more racism as an example. It is very sad to see him stoke the flames of racism and division to try and pander and get a pat on the back.

So let me get this straight. You want me to say I'm sorry for slaves I never owned? You want me to tell some one I'm sorry for slavery to someone who has never been a slave? You say you are a Christian. That means you should have the Holy Spirit. God inside you guiding you. So how can you be so out of touch with reality? Maybe because you aren't a Christian at all.. How can you be so wrong? Because you aren't listening to God you are listening to your flesh. I'm a white Irish, Cherokee American native. So who's going to apologize to me for something they didn't do? My family died in the Civil war. They paid the blood price so slaves could be free. They died in WW2 so you could have a country. I pray to the Lord Jesus Christ that He corrects you and if He can't I ask Him to remove you. In Jesus Name.

That does seem to be the case. I know many of my friends feel this way, and others that I care for do believe that it continues due to cultural differences. But, so what of you have differences. God made is all in his image. There is one human race. And there has got to be a point where we let go of the past, and embrace our brothers and sisters in Christ. We need each other.

I am astonished that people are upset with the use of one word throughout this entire presentation. That word being "blessing". Listen to the context with a truly open mind and I think you may come to a different conclusion. We must always have all our senses tuned to identify and shine the light on racism but to be uber sensitive does not serve any of us well and allows others to dismiss real racism. Take an hour and 10 minutes and listen to these men with an open mind and an open heart.
