Just got sent one to sharpen up for a client and I'm impressed. He wanted 15dps 8k edge, reprofile went quick on an atoma 140 and then a shapton glass progression to 8k. Mirrored up nicely at 5k was fully polished and 8k just for final refinement. The cpmD2 heat treat they did feels excellent on the stones burr control was great, pulled and held a super fine crispy burr until I was ready to deburr. Edge came off the stone hair whittling, 2 passes perside on 0.1 micron cbn on basswood just to make sure all the burr was gone and it wad ready to go. Full reprofile to mirror took me about 20 mins, steel cut crispy and felt great on the stones. I have sharpened a lot of kershaw CPM D2 for customers and can 100% say at least for this one example that BM HT is vastly better then Kershaws on this steel. I think I will pick one up just to do a edge retention test on.

I have been using this for about 2 weeks my edc and work blade haven’t had to sharpen it yet cpm d2 is a definite upgrade over Chinese d2

I got mine today. I really like the blade shape & how lightweight it is. It wasn’t super sharp out of the box but it was easy to get it razor sharp on my KME. I like BM’s D2. Good price for what you’re getting.

@@NorthwestKnives like the overlay a lot. Very secure feeling. With the deep pocket carry there are no hot spots when gripping.

I never worry about corrosion w/ D2 - the min threshold for stainless is 10.5% Cr, CPM-D2 is 11.55%, but there's a cap @ 1.2% for C, & D2 has 1.55% so its only considered "semi-stainless" - but that said, its a lot more stainless than many tool steels and most high carbon steels....so even if you wear through that nice coating, all day use in wet Oregon is no big deal (I have lots of experience w/ BM's D2 in those conditions). BM's D2 has been really tough so their heat treat / temper is on point. I tried to break off an Adamas 375 in a tree once (there were two of us) and only succeeding at splitting the tree trunk to the ground. I still use this knife. The Redoubt looks really cool, super aggressive texture for gloves in the lightweight Grivory scales, AND CPM-D2? Talk about a lightweight hard user just in time for summer.

Do it. I got mine today. It’s a near perfect edc. The texture under the clip isn’t too bad on the pocket. The clip has more spring because of how it’s attached so it’s secure but not tight. The green overlay is surely going to have replacement options soon enough.

To me it looks like a little twist off a knife they already created. “Griptillian “ Benchmade needs to come out with some new ideas, the last few releases have kinda disappointed me. Either way… I am still rocking my 945 I got from you guys over a year and a half ago 🤙🏼

That’s a great question. It shouldn’t. It’s only a tad bit more aggressive than what use to be on the factory Griptilian scales.

@@briand563 - big difference. CPM D2 I’d powdered steel so the grain structure is way finer. CPM D2 is a super steel! I enjoy it throughly.
