Being secure and centered is achieved by becoming physically grounded. In grounded therapy, you become mentally grounded automatically through the body-mind connection. This means that by developing a strong, balanced connection through the legs and feet, and being firmly planted on the ground, we naturally unlock numerous psychological and emotional benefits.
We can see this body-mind connection reflected in the language we use to describe grounded vs ungrounded people. Ungrounded people are described as "walking on eggshells", "pushovers", "airheads", and as being disconnected from reality. In contrast, grounded people are seen as "standing for something", "people of standing", and as able to "hold their ground."
By training the body to be physically grounded, secure, and centered, Dr. Lowen teaches that we can transform our psychological and emotional states. We become more confident, less swayed by others, and able to firmly establish our boundaries. The body and mind are deeply interconnected, and cultivating physical groundedness unlocks profound inner security and centeredness. This also allows us to hold better boundaries, and be more calm, confident, and charismatic.
