As a former folkstyle wrestler who has wrestled against bjj guys and judokas, I prefer the stand up grappling of judo for SD. I feel the upright posture favors street fights and confrontations more. If you see an opening and change levels for the double then go for it. But with concrete, knees, and potentially getting hit in the back of the head, I would rather use the grip fighting and off balancing of judo in a scuffle. People reach out, shove and grab in street fights. Boxing along with that for protecting your face, situational awareness, and to read body language quickly.

ye i mostly agree, Judo is probaly best for SD, cause of how good throws are on HARD concrete. Plus boxing is good because You learn it a lot faster then muay thai and Hands matter the most in a SD situation. I mean you could go for a outside step knee tap, even better if you can reach for ankle(while keeping collar tie for off balance). you dont need to really scrape or hit your knee on hard ground compared if you did Heel,toe,knee. PERSONALLY THE 100 METER DASH would be my choice🏃‍♂

Thats the thing w freestyle wrestling, posture is bent, and they follow guys to the ground and thats not where you wanna be in a SD situation. Greco though is super interesting but still they follow to ground, mind you if they bring you to the ground via suplex you’re kinda screwed😂

Boxing because a fight doesn’t start grabbing. Judo because the fight may hit the clinch. By the way, kyokushin karate has a great mix of karate and judo throws but no face strikes.... but must Thai has strokes and throws. People are less likely to stay in boxing and Thai boxing though.

@@TK-fc8rh Judo is good cause you’re still in upright posture , most throws can be done without following the person to the ground , if you do end up on the ground you still learn how to defend yourself from there , you learn how to defend against being taken down, and you also learn things like break falls, which is useful for if you fall during a fight so you don’t get hurt as badly

Whatever system you learn, it should include the following, •De-escalating a potential attack •Ambush attacks •Multiple attackers •Defending against weapons •If it's legal in your country, learning to use weapons •Both the pre and post fight •Scenario training •What are the laws and reasonable force in your country •How to avoid a fight, and being aware of your surroundings •Pressure testing •Training in different environments •Spiring, both standing and on the ground I've learned these principles from training with Krav Maga Global. The head of KMG UK (Jon Bullock) introduced us to Rory Miller, which some of his methods is part of our training. He has even been teaching seminars every year. I've come along way from where I was. I started off with Jujitsu (Japanese jiu jitsu just in case you get confused), Kickboxing, Goju Karate, Judo, Taiho Jitsu, and now Krav Maga. Krav Maga seems to be the system that's gives me a proper understanding with self defense... I remember once I asked my Kickboxing instructor how to get out of a headlock. She didn't know what to say, as we all know, Kickboxing only teaches sparring. Also to point out, sparring only makes up a small percentage of your self-defence!

Good stuff, friend. Boxing and Wrestling make a powerful combo for a real scrapper. I spent about twelve years dabbling in various arts. Tried a lot of different styles: BJJ, Judo, Wrestling, Boxing, Kung Fu (San Da). BJJ has always been my main focus and I even earned a Blue Belt in the Gi. Now though, I want to make the transition to fighting MMA, which is why I enrolled in Boxing and Muay Thai. I just hope my takedowns from the clinch and my punching technique help my Muay Thai. I wonder how long it will take for me to get very good. I also hope science and medicine overcomes the Corona virus.

Should have seen that coming: Boxing. It takes your fists to someone's head and face right away. I wonder though about wrestling. How often do street fights go to the ground? I have seen where they do, so maybe that's why. If you have no ground game, then your boxing skills fail you when you are taken down. Great advice! Boxing. Thank You

When you say "brutish", it reminds me of beginning from more gross motor skills vs. fine motor skills. I think both boxing and wrestling begin from more gross motor movements and move into the fine motor skills later. Other martial arts often mix the two right away. As you say, it takes more time to learn. Also--it is worth noting that in a self defense situation, fine motor skills often go out the window (especially in the case of real aggressive violence: a fast, close, unexpected assault). I agree with your assessment 100 %. It also depends on the situation--a police officer working a beat may also have slightly different needs than a SWAT team or a corrections officer in a prison.
@OGFITNESS
@OGFITNESS 4 жыл бұрын
i like the way you just explained that, gross vs fine motor skills. makes perfect sense, when i started wrestling it was all gross, then as i got better i realized the fine motor skills in high level guys and how it can actually very refined even within the gross motor skills itself.
