Those TLRs are the original street photography cameras. The body was held low, which is more inconspicuous than an eye-level view finder, so photographers could get candid shots without attracting attention.

Nice video! I like the square format, and use a vintage Rolleiflex and a Hasselblad 500C with full complement of lenses. I also shoot a Barnack Leica, and Nikon F and Pentax SLR outfits. One thing I find is that the rig I'm using kind of guides how I shoot. I'm an older guy, and the experience and pleasure of the shooting, developing, and post-processing work is a big part of the creativity and fun of the photographic experience for me. Keep on shooting and posting your videos! Andy

Great find and some excellent first images. I love that you are inspiring a new generation to shoot film. One comment though, we never see you metering a shot, I presume you probably use a phone app, but it is important that new film shooters using cameras like these understand the importance of a light meter.

5:15 My first medium format camera was a Yashica Mat 124G, and that viewfinder was also pretty dark. Years ago, Matt Day mentioned that you could get the ground glass replaced, but it's expensive as hell. I've been using a Rolleicord Vb II for several years now, and even after I bought a Hasselblad 500 C/M, I take the TLR everywhere with me. Not only are TLR's way lighter, it takes up way less space in a bag.

TLRs are great - my first MF camera was a Yashica-mat 124G - I kind of regret getting rid of it. Still I got a Rolleiflex 2.8F instead... Square is great but you have to sort of re-wire your head composition wise to make it work. It's somehow quite different from any of the rectangular ones I find. Have fun!

My mom had a Yashicamat 124 G. It was a great camera. Mom used it for years. Not sure whatever happened to it. The Yashica was a poor man's Rolleiflex but it was great quality and durable. They are quiet which is nice for some street photographer use. The waist level finder means you can be looking one way while the camera is pointed at your subject for even more stealth

Hmm, a Yashica D, a very good buy, since well built classic film cameras are dirt cheap, since "SmartPhones already have cameras." I've used TLRs since the 1950's since there was a variety of Family cameras available. The Twin Lens Reflexes were a blur-grey Yashica 44 and a Rolleicord V. The Yashica's focusing went first; a brass bolt inside the focusing knob sheared off part of the shaft connected to the rest of the focusing system. The Rolleicord still works, and is easier to focus after a CLA session at a Rollei repair station decades ago. (Reflex mirror cleaned, back straightened, Rolleiclear focusing screen.) Too bad Verichrome and Plus-X Pan aren't available, but there's always Ilford FP4 and HP5. The best thing I ever found at a "camera/vinyl fair" was a Polaroid 180 for free. (No Fuji Pack film.)

Haha I thought the same thing about the shutter on my rolleicord, but it makes for a good discrete camera if you don’t want people to hear the shutter. Don’t get me wrong though, pulling out a TLR is not discreet. People will stop and stare when you’re out with it
@ezekielkokspeaks3 жыл бұрын
The beauty of the 500cm is that you can change the film back and yes there is 6x6 aka a12, 6x4.5 aka a16 and there is even a back that can take 220 aka a24 meaning it takes 24 shots.
