Which is the best .308 ammo to shoot out of the CVA Cascade? We took it to the range to find out! Watch our 308 ammo test as we put 5 different rounds through the paces at 100 yards.

Try pinning the trigger back after firing instead of immediately letting it go. It can help tighten those groups.

People sleep on Norma. Everybody rushes to Hornady, Federal, and other brands and leaves Norma on the shelves. And those are two good, reputable, manufacturers. But Norma will definitely put food on the table as it did mine last year. Their white tail 150 grainer SPs do work on 200+ lb deer. Does minimal damage to the meat while creating excellent blood trails. With any projectile, or almost any, it’s about shot placement from the shooter. This is why it’s important to see what your rifle likes, and go with that. All of these rounds will do just fine in deer and other game.

The Norma look really interesting, do they come in 165 grain ? 165 grain for 308 is much like 180 grain units in my 30:06 !!! My guns just seem to like those weight bullets and are consistently more accurate !

Since I have you. Do you have any thoughts on a 18 vs 20 vs 22 length barrel for 308?

@@wesleyallen1214 well, my expertise is limited to my experience. From what I understand, longer barrels are better for long range accuracy. Part of that is that shortening the barrel decreases muzzle velocity some. So, if your shots are within 300 yards or so, I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes. Again, someone with more expertise could probably help more, but I hope that helps.

Federal fusions are my go to for terminal performance, they expand well but don’t break apart. They’re also accurate in most things I shoot them out of. Allegedly the fusions and buckmasters are the exact same just different box.

The Fusion 308 and the Buckmaster 308 are not the same based on how Federal is marketing them. According to their own respective boxes, the Fusion 308 bullets are flat base where as the Buckmaster 308 bullets are boat tail.

Just FYI, I shoot a Ruger American 308. I have found that bullets in and around 165 grain work best for me ! I really like the 167-8? Grain federal match king bullets for target ! I hunt woth the 165 Hornady SUperformance as theyare pretty close to the match kings, most often sub 1 MOA .

Those Federal Fusions at 165 did really well. I was mainly sticking with the 150 because that Hawke scope has BDC markers for 2820 FPS, and I was trying to stay as close to that as possible. Thank you for that info, though!!!

Your husband’s favorite is also mine. I have a little over 600 rounds of the 308 150 power shok for target shooting due to the lower cost. I use Hornady for groundhog and coyotes due to the destruction those rounds consistently provide.

I just acquired some Norma for my 243. When looking at the ballistic data on the box, I noticed it seemed to be lower than other brands in velocity and retained energy. I have some Winchester deer season, Winchester Power max bonded, Federal Power shock and a box of Browning BXR. All of these shells show more velocity and retained energy at 400 yds than the Norma does at 300. May be accurate but will not be my choice for longer ranges.

165gn Fusions work excellent in my 308 the super x 180s group better in my rifle then the 150s do. All still effective and deadly for me. My go to is the Fusions though 4 shots 4 downed bucks in 4 season few does tags filled with fusions as well 1 shot everytime. My buddy has the exact same rifle and his throws fusions all over the board. So it's all about finding what works best for you. Love the video thanks for posting

Federal Fusion is a great product. I've purchased much more expensive ammo that doesn't perform as well as FF in my rifle so I bought 2 cases of FF. It shoots sub-MOA for 3/4 the price. Great stuff! Kudos to Federal Premium products.

I love norma. I don't know how much time you took between shots and the different groups themselves but I always like to shoot a hunting rifle cold barrel. As the barrel temperature rises, your groups will open up. If you didn't wait long between those several groups, they may actually shoot tighter with a cold bore. Still a great video. Thank you

accuracy is important but how does a bullet perform when it hits game.......shatter or split up or mushroomed and good penetration.....I rather have a bullet that stays together and shoots 2-3" groups at 100 yds than one that shoots under 1" groups and shatters upon impact

I've shot every ammo under the Sun and almost every caliber as far as 308 and 243 go I've had excellent luck with PPU ammo especially on deer sized game or coyotes

My cva cascade shoots norma WT 150. Win 150 and fed hydro shok about the same 1/2 to 3/4" at 100 off bags. Went with fed they are a little faster. My 6.5C cva cascade likes win WT 125s. Haven't shot a deer with 6.5. Can't seem to leave 308 and take 6.5

All those shots were meat in the freezer. I use the 308 Win for most of my hunting, and the 300 win Mag for longer distances. Cannot go wrong with either one. Great video.

Buck master and fusion I think are the exact same ammo. But your results showed different. Norma shoots lights out in everything. My favorite ammo is 165 Hornady American whitetail. I went down a rabbit hole researching bullets instead of ammo. I’ll only shoot bonded or locked bullets… or better.

According to Federal, their Fusion .308 ammo and Buckmaster .308 ammo are different because they are not loaded with the same kind of .308 bullets. The Fusion version are loaded with flat base .308 bullets where as the Buckmaster version are loaded with boat tail .308 bullets. Check how they are being marketed with their own respective boxes, and you will see what I mean.

I have a DPMS Gen2. 7.62/.308 Recon AR platform, 16” 1/10 twist. I fought that rifle for the longest using 150 grain FMJ. Way too many flyers. Blamed it on everything but the ammo. Until one day at the range, a military sniper approached me and asked if he could offer words of wisdom. Are you kidding me??!! Only after you adopt me!! LOL!!! He looked my rifle over, then told me to go north of 168 grain bullet. Said the 150 was way too light of a round . Got me a few boxes of Nosler 175 grain. BAM!!! Problem solved.

Oh wow! First of all, that’s an awesome story! The main reason I was sticking with 150 grain was because of the ballistics (2820 FPS). The scope I have on it has ballistic markers based on that round. Those 165 did great, though, so I may need to try a few heavier rounds. Thanks for the info! In this video, the Normas were .976 MOA, I just didn’t use the app until the later videos. And several were very close (1.09, 1.1, etc.). A few things I’ve thought about…(1) We don’t really put any “cool down” time between shots. Pretty much what you see is how it goes, and (2) I’ve thought about adding a cheek riser so I can get a more repeatable cheek weld. I think both of those things could potentially make a big difference. Most every load, though is under 1.3 if I remember correctly, which is pretty impressive when accounting for those couple of things.

150-168 Feds always been my go to now it's feds and Norma lot of people having wonderful results with Norma, I don't hear people complaining I hear people talking highly of them that's what made me start using norman at our outside range in Jacksonville Florida Gateway gun club. I'm an instructor in 4-H I'm on the range a lot and when I first seen many people using that particular ammo norma I like to ask shooter's what do you think I was hearing a lot of good results, so I started my own testing myself does very well at 100 - 300 yards.

Hey! I'm glad it did show you. We have Part 2, 3, and 4, too. I did hunt with the Norma 150 grain soft point. He ran ~50 yards and dropped. No exit wound, though. My husband hunted with the Norma Whitetail (in 6.5 CM), and all of them had pass throughs with good blood. I will probably switch to those next year.

I like barnes ttsx 168gr, no lead and pretty devistating on vitals. Groups great. Try them if you can find them.

@@ReviewThisThing i took a large blacktail deer last season with them. It didn't go more than 20ft and dropped. It took out the heart and lungs with a full passthru of both shoulders. I'll have to admit it was a bit much for it, it's more of a elk, moose round, I would drop down to a 130gr if i could find them. This is my experience with them, hope this helps.
