I'll say this much ..... It always comes down to "personal use". The Mavic Air is the one quadcopter that suits my needs the best. Small, portable, with stable video. I will add one observation to the drone technology market. ........ There is a always going to be a "better one" coming along in the next several months. So there has to be a point in time where you have to make the decision to buy one, knowing full well that in a year there next version will be out with much improved features. So unless you are rich and can afford to buy every new version that pops up, then you'll have to settle on one model and be happy with using it for the next several years.
@TheEverydayDad6 жыл бұрын
I agree with both points. The air is awesome. And if you always wait around for the best you’ll never get anything! 😁👍
@ksmackvolleyball6 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is very difficult to do. I refer to selling used and ancient technology. Personally, I would never buy a used camera, drone, or computer. Cause you know that the newest model is going to be far better and usually much cheaper. I remember I bought my first action cam for around $250. That camera shot video at 720p, 30 fps. Honestly, I could try to sell it, but who would want it? I probably couldn't give it away. Its great that technology advances so fast, but it also means nobody wants the old stuff. By the way, I'm selling my old laptop for $500. It has Windows 95 on it ...... (grin)
@ksmackvolleyball6 жыл бұрын
Nope, that would be an inaccurate assumption. I have never been able to afford to buy a drone, and I've never owned a GoPro. However, I buy less expensive action cams that are still decent quality. But I would still never buy a used camera, because the technology would not be as good as it was when it was first released.
@100cygnus6 жыл бұрын
A camera that took excellent images 4 years ago - will still take excellent images today. Nothing else really matters.
@ksmackvolleyball6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but that is not an accurate statement. What may have been considered "excellent" 4 years ago is classified as "below average" today. And I am referring to camera technology. This is why everyone gets so excited when new versions come out, cause they blow away the previous models. I have cameras I bought 4 years ago that I don't even use anymore. Who wants to use an old camera that takes 5 megapixel pictures when the new ones get 20 to 24 megapixels. (not to mention shoot 4K video) In the world of cameras and drones, the word "old" means "outdated & useless".
@NicholasBouchard6 жыл бұрын
I know you might not like the fly more combo charger because it only charges one battery at a time, but heres the thing: theres a micro processor in the charger base that determines which of the docked batteries has the highest amount of charge, and charges that one to full first, then goes to the next highest, and so forth. This basically gets you back up in the air faster than having a charger that slow charges all batteries simutaneously. Something you may also not know, theres a rubber plug on the charging dock. Pull it out and theres a micro USB behind it. You can update the firmware for the battery through that USB plug.
@amosjsoma6 жыл бұрын
Except for owning a couple small toy drones a few years ago, I’m pretty new to the subject. My primary interest is photography so I’m considering buying a Phantom 4 Pro+. The thing that concerns me is what I read in Amazon reviews on DJI in general. About 30% of the people who rate the Phantom 4 Pro+ give it a one or two-star rating. When you read through those poor reviews the one thing that jumps out to me it that DJI seems to have incredibly bad customer service. Would you care to comment on any experiences you’ve had with DJI customer service?
@TheEverydayDad6 жыл бұрын
I've never had to use DJI customer service but I've heard its terrible. If you do want a great photography drone DJI really is the only game in town and their phantom 4 pro camera is amazing.

I like how you compared the air more towards the spark.i think it’s a perfect choice if you only own the spark and looking for a little upgrade.i really don’t need all the high tech that’s in the Mavic pro
@TheEverydayDad6 жыл бұрын
Its absolutely an upgrade over the spark and really doesn't have much to do with the pro other then the mavic name. Oh and it folds.
@drewkirk16 жыл бұрын
I had the platinum pro - loved the quietness, but it was a bit big to transport to some cool places.. loved how far it would fly tho. figured the Air would be a good drone, and when and if they come out with a Pro II, it will be in a market that is a little different so that having both the Air and the PRO II would be more complimentary and less confusing marginal lines between the two as it seems now.
@TheEverydayDad6 жыл бұрын
That's exactly that my thoughts are. The Air will be my always with me drone and the mavic 2 would be my bigger drone for better images/video.

Enjoying your videos! As a new-to-drones pleb who took delivery of a Mavic Air a week ago, I think I understand the thinking behind the fly more charger design. I think DJI might have set up the one battery at a time solution as a means to keep Airs flying. One battery would charge faster than 2 or 3 so I understand prioritising 1 battery over others in the charger dock. As for the Mavic Air itself: I love it. It suits my use-case perfectly: a high quality video in an ultra compact drone built for travelling? What's not to love? A Mavic Pro would be too big and a Spark just doesn't fold down to the same degree. Keep up the great work!

What’s so good about the dji mavic pro having a 1 inch sensor ? What does 1inch sensor do ?
@TheEverydayDad6 жыл бұрын
It means you can let more light in and gain more low light capabilities and the ability to have a much shallower depth of field.
@sogron0076 жыл бұрын
keanu Romero only the DJI Phantom has a 1-inch sensor. The spark, the Maverick air and a mavic pro Platinum all have the same 2/3 sensor. It's only configured differently. However if you look at the Phantom series: Phantom 4, Phantom 4 Pro Image quality is second to none, because of the one-inch sensor.

Awesome video, but..... You are missing one super small thing that comes with the drone. It comes with a plug that connects to your battery with a usb connection so you can charge your mobile devices as well as safely discharging your fully charged batteries when something happens that you can’t fly.
@TheEverydayDad6 жыл бұрын
I saw that thing and wondered what the heck it was for. I thought it was an individual battery charger and I stared at it for 15 minutes before I realized what it was for.
@tommyg9576 жыл бұрын
The Everyday Dad I could see myself using that adapter. Sometimes I can be ready to fly then family things pop up and boom I can’t fly and I need a safe way to discharge my batteries, or I am in the field and need a quick top-off on my mobile device.

Yeah I think it’s a great idea but I’m already frustrated at the battery charging system and finding something I couldn’t figure out for 15 minutes ticked me off 😂

In my opinion, the lost member of the DJI line is the Mavic Pro. I see the Mavic Air comparing to my iPhone and the P4P comparing to my Nikon 750. One is portable and has great image quality for most applications. The second provides, at the price of size, more features and even better image quality. I love my P4P, but, as is often said, the best camera is the one you have with you. That’s where the Mavic Air comes in. Often the best drone is the one you have with you!
@billsomrak6 жыл бұрын
The fact that the OTG cable is "built in" to the Mavic Air means that DJI won't take away that feature like they did with the Spark. When they updated the App/FW to remove OTG cable use with the Spark, I rolled my Spark back to a version which still supports it. (DJI Go 4 version 4.1.15). If you read the "Official DJI Spark FB" page/channel, it seems that every day someone is complaining that they are now getting disconnects (between RC/viewing device) and/or fly aways after disconnection (with the Spark). I'm so "miffed" at DJI for pulling that crap with the Spark that I have an inkling to try and sell it off on eBay. Yeah, the so called "Mavic Air" doesn't have Occusync or Lightbridge 2, but it does have 'hard wired' OTG and a more powerful RC (in FCC mode), so the aggravating disconnects and choppy/pixelated FPV video should not be a problem. I can't tell you how many shoots I did NOT do, because I don't have confidence in the Spark. I trust my P3A 100%, but perhaps 5% trust in the Spark (at best). YMMV
@TheEverydayDad6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Bill. Totally understand the frustrations about the OTG cable. I think all drones at the very minimum should include this as an option.
@billsomrak6 жыл бұрын
Yeah ... DJI is being so hypocritical in this case, because prior to disabling the OTG cable on the Spark, they had Ads, on their own website, showing the use of THEIR OTG cable with the Spark, so you would buy a pair of their $500 FPV goggles. The hypocrisy is staggering ...

I SO AGREE about the battery charger. SUCKS!!!! Maybe the Spark spoiled me... but I can't get the batteries to fit in the slots. The Spark charger grabs the batteries out of my hand and plop right into the charger. The AIR charger is just horrible. The charger of one at a time is just horrible. Looking for a new one to come out from somebody else.

I think the engineer that made the AIR charger was the person that came up with the SPARK Fly More bag!!! Both epic fails!!! Now the AIR Fly More bag is fantastic! I put the AIR in it’s little case in the EXPANDING outside zippered pouch. I put the controller where AIR is suppose to go inside (via drawing from DJI) and have plenty of room for everything I need. (I must admit I don’t take chargers with me. Three batteries are plenty for my hobbyist fill. I am think about blowing up the Spark Fly More bag with AIR charger trapped inside!
