Ive had my mavic air for a few weeks now. I still have the gitters sending this expensive thing flying away, but my trust in it is building fast. I flew in fairly heavy winds today (over 20mph gusts at altitude) and it didnt skip a beat. All you need to be careful with is always make sure you are riding with the wind on return. Its a great unit.

The DJI Air seems to be situated where the axis of art and science of drone making has found a sweet spot for almost everyone. You do want to turn off DJI update if you're shooting on a professional schedule. I really am proud of the hand gesture control, and it's utility on the Mavic Air, a 3 axis gymbal, and stable as a Phantom Pro 4. Best review yet, way better than any other review out there. Covers everything, good and bad. Mostly good.

OK, well I guess it's not only me in regards to the micro SD card. I'm not a big guy and have medium hands and can't for the life of me get it out without a tool. Great stuff as always! And nice music choice for the closer ;)

Hey guys, take a 2" length of scotch tape & rip it in half lengthways. Then take one of those & attach an end to the out-facing edge (1/4 inch in or so) of the micro card top, & the other end to the bottom, then press the gluesides to each other the entire length, viola, pull-tab. Great video too, thanks JS, cheers/happy hunting.

Let the extra hang out the door & the door gets a tad easier to open, maybe. Drone geta a raccoon tail.
@4wheelliving1326 жыл бұрын
I agree about the poor placement of the card, but I usually just use a very small needle nose pliers to get it out, and it's not really that big of a deal. I've had the same problem with other cameras
@darrylhaffner47914 жыл бұрын
A helpful resolve: When the micro SD card is out of the drone, take a piece of magic tape, or similar, cut to width of card and make it long enough so after applying it to the top and bottom sides of the card, there is a small tail of tape long enough to grasp with your fingers to pull out the card, and short enough to still close the access door. Alternatively use a tweezer, or if you don't have to remove it often download the pics using the patch cord. Enjoy!
@donwatson11415 жыл бұрын
I'm convinced,,,,,,,,,,well I already had one of these but videos like this are how I am learning all the features of the drone. You did a heck of a job of showing off many features. I would like to see more of the automated photo and video modes. As far as the tiny SD card compartment I use a pair of tweezers to insert and remove the card. No way I can get my fat fingers in the hole. Great job. I did the subscribe thingy.

I've gotta admit, the Mavic Air is amazing. For such a small, light drone, this thing outperforms my expectations (although it's still pricey in the grand scheme of things, it's totally worth the money). I love the stable, beautiful shots it gets. Even the other day when I was filming in some pretty wild wind, it handled itself admirably, although it was looking a bit drunk up there :D

Really nice review. Completely agree. My P4P is my Nikon 750; my Mavic Air is my iPhone. Both have their place. As you said, the “best camera in the world is the one with you”. What’s subtle is the significantly faster processing speed of the Mavic Air’s many onboard chips. I think that makes for more stable flight and provides for enhanced modes like “Cinematic” mode where not only the x,y,z positions are monitored, but they are monitored more often AND there is still time to monitor acceleration to control smooth motion. I’m thinking the chip speeds will add “new generation” level function to the Mavic Pro II and the Phantom5.
@JeremySiers7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Russell! Agree totally, there is a lot going on with the tech inside this little guys that takes the quality up a good bit. Cant wait to see what they pack in the new pro and phantom that will prob release soon.

Thanks so much Jeremy for your in-depth review of this drone! I have been researching this drone and in many ways comparing it with the Parrot Bebob and the new Parrot Nanfi in consideration of which to purchase. The biggest take-away is that the Parrot drones have about 6 more minutes of flight time. Still, not enough to sell me over this DJI Mavic Air. It will be mine very soon! Thanks again! Happy flying!

When it works it's just dandy. BUT - Of my DJI drones, the Air has been by far the most troublesome. Early on it had incredible issues with just connecting to the RC, back to seller for a fix. Result - no more problems so there was something got corrected there. Like many others mine developed a fixation for getting its compass recalibrated. Which I didn't mind enormously BUT when those calibrations began to fail the shine went off the damn thing for me. That culminated in "CANNOT FLY" red flags showing and calibration ALWAYS reported as a failure. Sometimes unaccountably immediately followed by a green flag with GPS okay to fly. Something clearly rotten in its little heart! I'll add that in the air it behaved okay - but those repeated compass refusals to calibrate were VERY worrisome. After a phone call to the dealer it's back yet again to get presumably one more fix. I can see this one will be on ebay sooner rather than later before yet some other nasty issue comes up. I'll add that I always use the latest released updates when available and this bird was given its updates as they appeared - nothing made a bit of difference. Given my experience with the MavAir and reports of various shortcomings of the MavPro2Pro, seems to me that DJI has started to release drones for sale before they're out of development. Which really underscores how nowadays it's the marketing people who rule the roost with tech equipment sales - they project ahead for product launches regardless of product unreadiness and they definitely use early buyers as their beta testers. That gets old VERY fast indeed.
