2 good things are coming from this. 1. The Ruger's and PSA's 57 offerings are challenging FN's monopoly on the 57, thus forcing FN to step up their game in both features and price. 2. The price for the 57 cartridge will go down since it will no longer be a niche cartridge.

I got my MK2 a long time ago. I paid 1599.00 for it. That was the norm until Ruger released theirs, followed by PSA. So it does hurt a little bit when I see them at 999.99 now a days. Not salty in any way, because with more offerings chambered in 5.7x28mm; I’m very excited for the future ammo offerings. That and the hopes of maybe a compact/concealable model.

Smaller the bore, the worse it gets exponentially with shorter barrels. 5" is already the absolute minimum for 5.7 terminal effectiveness, 3.5" barrel and you've got Mini-Mags with a lot more flash and noise. That, and 5.7 is already inherently not suited for CCW because 1. the cart. length makes the grip huge and, 2. the chamber is almost .5" longer than 9mm, which counts towards barrel length.

One thing to note on the 5.7X28 for reloaders. Factory ammo is coated with a type of polymer coating to evidentially aid chambering and ejection. The problem is that it will wear off during tumbling clean the brass. This results in some malfunctioning. So, when cleaning the brass, either just wipe it down, or use an unheated sonic cleaning tub.

@@wheelguns4wheelmen802 I would love to get a suppressor but haven't sat down to go through all of the paperwork etc, but I may yet be inspired to do so. I do have a Witt Machine SME ordered just to see how that works, worst case I throw it on an one of my AR15s. I will say for the PSA the grip is extremely comfortable in the hand and im 6'4" with large hands. The trigger is quite nice, low bore axis, it feels very comfortable to shoot and well balanced. I have no complaints whatsoever so far apart from it just being a bit stiff to cram in those last few rounds in the mag, and if i am going to have a complaint, thats a good one to have. The thing really feels wonderful in the hand, a pleasure to hold and to shoot. The grip texturing is really just right IMO.

So I tried the Witt Machine SME on this gun. The brake works fine and yields a fun fireball you can even see yourself as the shooter. However if you put the shroud on the brake to redirect the sound the gun fails to cycle, like at all. Leaves empty brass in the chamber until manually cycled. I'll try a suppressor when I get a chance and toss the SME on an AR. I still like the idea of the SME but I'd probably need a model designed for pistols.

@theodoreheintz7891
@theodoreheintz7891 2 жыл бұрын
@@Kiamors no that's not it. Part of what's weird is that the p90 is either a straight blowback or arguably a delayed blowback depending on who you ask because the barrel moves a tiny bit during firing and the pistols are locked breech. Another issue is that 5.7x28 isn't even Sammy standardized. Some ammo is also weaker than others either cuz they're deliberately gelding it so that it doesn't punch armor or for some other reason such as their reverse engineering since it's not Sammy approved etc.
@Kiamors
@Kiamors 2 жыл бұрын
@@theodoreheintz7891 nice to know. I've been devouring all the 5.7 reviews I can find because I want an ap handgun I can conceal. seems like the FN guns have the best reliability. The only review I've seen of the rock complaining about cycling issues featured American eagle 5.7 ammo being the problem but there were several bad qc batches that got released and the ammo had the same issues. Apparently FN sold American eagle some suspect lots and American eagle just packaged and shipped it. Mainly the bullet isn't seated well in the cartridge and comes loose.

@@cobra4975 I am very aware of that. I bought a DBX 5.7 which is a piston gas gun that both runs fine (or at least my and Buffman's copies do) without the lacquer and does not push the shoulders forward like blow backs. I had a ton of once fired brass that I wanted to induction anneal so ran the brass in a tumbler for 18 hours with stainless media, tiny bit of detergent, and water. I had tried several other means of removing the lacquer and found that the easiest, least expensive, least toxic and least harmful to the brass way to do so. My brass now lasts more than two or three reloading without the necks starting to tear off. This however is a lot of extra work and I get why most people wouldn't do it. I rarely shoot the MK2 anymore because I have come to see it as a brass wrecker. I only fire as yet unfired brass with the lacquer still on it through the MkII so it is as expensive to shoot as any other 5.7.

Besides, taking the 5.7 from 430ft•lb to 380 by having a slightly shorter barrel in a lighter, more concealable package isn't some insane or unfounded concept. Hell, they make 410/45LC derringers that have 1/2" of rifling contact. Sometimes the point of a gun isn't to have it be the best ballistic performer possible. Unreasonable plinkers have a place, too.

I bought 450 rds of 5.7 ammo when the Ruger 57 was announced. Then the pandemic happened. Ruger 57s were hard to come by and went up and price. Wish I had sold the ammo at the height and made over double. But still have the ammo and waiting for a Ruger 57 used to show up around $450. Or I'll just sell the ammo one day

Great video for a fantastic round. Fn is the OG for 5.7 but for the ergonomics, optic ready, rail, safety placement, and price the ruger 5.7 is the better buy. The gen 3 fn does look great though, just not worth $1500.

I've had a Ruger since they came out & I really don't think it's in the same tier as the FiveseveN. Yea, it's technically "optic ready" but there is no cut at all, so you have to buy a $40 plate & let the dot sit wayyyy above where it would with an optic cut. The FiveseveN is just a nicer pistol.

With Ruger you get what you pay for a lesser quality gun, 4 out of 5 Ruger's that I've owned had to go back to the factory usually with trigger problems, even the revolver's have trigger problems. Fact: no law enforcement agency in the United States will authorize the use of a Ruger even as a backup weapon, that alone is enough for me to stay away from that junk, and the same goes for Taurus, Taurus started off as a Saturday night special back in the 70s and yes they are better today, but is your life worth saving a couple of hundred dollars? Not me! I'm sticking with professional grade/mil.spec. weapons. Good luck all❤️

@@samslaughter6828 That just about seals it for me, Sam. If it's not good for LE, then it's not good enough for me. I recently had an opportunity to compare the Five seven (Mk2) with the Ruger 57, and I agree with you. The build quality on the Ruger is not in the same league as the Five seveN. It fits nicely in the hand, but at the end of the day it's not an FN. On my next visit to Florida I hope to have a feel for the Mk3 GRD!

Love your videos! And I will agree FN's newest 57 pistol is their best yet. Is it the best compared to the Ruger and PSA's offerings? Hard to say. The PSA is less expensive, carries 23 rounds in the magazine and the threaded barrel is threaded 1/x28 so doesn't require an adapter like the FN and Ruger. On the other hand, Ruger has just come out with the carbine which uses same magazine as their pistol. SO many offerings, and each one has their perks- it's worth getting them all!

@@grant1430 Unfortunately, it seems that most American homes (and Canadian ones as well), are constructed of timber frames, and plasterboard, rather than brick, leaving the real world possibility of a through and through zipping through the wall behind, and into the house/apartment ... I can't remember the case completely, but on one of those police bodycam channels, there was a raid by just ordinary cops, with a guy that supposedly owned just a handgun, despite the raid being for drug distribution. Naturally he was way more heavy, and had a AR-15 platform rifle that just ripped straight through the walls. I can't remember if he killed one officer, but he certainly seriously wounded enough for, iirc, the nearest SWAT unit to be called in. I'm pretty sure that they were able to bust his barricades down, and end up being arrested, but certainly in the aftermath, when CSI had came in, photographs of that apartment had witness sticks in every direction, including beside the front door, and a few around a window. Pretty sure there was impact marks on the wall adjacent with another apartment, with that front door directly opposite. If they hadn't exited at an angle, it would be easy to think those rounds still had enough terminal velocity to shoot through the wall of the apartment opposite. Perhaps it's because the climate here in England is close to that of Seattle/Washington State, that I can't think of any new build housing being anything other than brick built, not timber frame. With just plasterboard/rocksheet walls, there is nothing to stop a heavy enough bullet, travelling fast enough. Also explains why, in an American house fire, it tends to result in a total loss, in a 2nd Alarm blaze, because of how flimsy the houses are ... if feels like you have to go back a minimum of three generations, if not four, to find brick houses. Worse, in counties that are prone to EF4 - EF5 tornadoes, the 'lucky' home owners are those whose house is just a pile of timber, the 'unlucky' has theirs swept from the concrete raft foundation ... ... so, yes, overpenitration is an issue ... ... unless, you create a bullet that is boat-tailed, like a 5.7, but hollow-point, with a plastic, screwed in, nose-cap, thus a round naturally expands on impact, but tries to emulate a flatter curve as like all other rifle rounds ...

There is logic: how many guns do they currently sell in 32ACP? Probably none. There are now several new 5.7 guns on the market. For what it’s worth, 32ACP is a nifty round, but it’s just not a common chambering for new manufacture/modern guns.
@rickjohnson3215
@rickjohnson3215 2 жыл бұрын
@@jackjohnson291 Jack: you made a very good point. Still you have to look at how many 32’s are in the population of pistols. Keltec has sold currently well in the 6 figures of the p32. Not to mention, the Beretta 32 Cheetah series and the Tomcat series. Add all of those up and you have a truly significant number of 32acp pistols out there. Thanks for responding in such a thoughtful way. I try to advocate for the 32acp for civilian use for as the tactical professor says, “ our mission, as self defense shooter’s, is to achieve a break in contact,” not put bracelets on the bad guy. Again thanks and blessed be.
