Boomer here at age 62…. Appreciate your videos and the information about EV’s. We purchased a Kia EV6 GT-line last August 2022 just in time to get the $7,500 rebate and have enjoyed it. Our only regret is that it is low to get in and out of, especially as I’m 6’2” and yes, have arthritis and fibromyalgia! Range anxiety is still a thing for us and haven’t taken it on a road trip yet but for the majority of our driving, it is perfect! Not a fan of the tablet tacked onto the dashboard with some or no physical knobs or buttons, old fashioned I guess. Aesthetic’s is also a factor for me, think it’s ugly so not a fan of Tesla (or Elon!). I’ve commented in another of your videos that it is exciting to see advancements in transportation other than ICE vehicles with only more to come. Thanks for educating people about them!

My Senior parents watched your wondeful video and they concurred 100%, especially with the rapidly consistent assault on removing phyisical buttons from vehicles, they detest that. They do like the Heads Up Displays though. Much respect to you and good work sir.

I am 72 and love the minimalist style of Tesla. I have a 2018 Tesla Model 3 Mid Range. I think seniors would prefer the minimalist style of Tesla due to trying to find all the controls on other vehicles. Not an Elon fan, but Tesla vehicles are the way to go for any EV. Just my opinion, I will admit the vehicles you presented are good choices, but for now I will stick with my preference. Overall you presented a very good video for one to make choices. Well done!

@@lmb4876 I now have a 2024 Model Y rear wheel drive. I find the Model Y easier to get in and out of compared to the Model 3. I recommend the Model Y. The Model Y seating is higher and I think it will be easier on your knees. Take a test drive in both and then make your decision.

Owning a Bolt euv (the slightly bigger of the Bolt twins), I'd recommend one; I'm 56 (just into the Xer generation), and I appreciate what I consider perfect seat height, upright seating, easy entry and egress, gauges in front of the driver, and switches. Also, the 10" high-res back up camera is damn nice. Low price and good efficiency to boot. I've seen 500 miles on a charge in the summer, but without a heat pump, winter range isn't nearly as good. I also like the smaller size of this vehicle.

This is not a great list for SENIORS. I have a Volvo C40 Recharge, it is very nice, certainly. The range is not great at all at 225. Seniors should consider that the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y once again qualify for the $7500 tax credit to purchase, and should bear in mind that for all EV's they can lease them and most makers will give you a $7500 credit on the lease because the manufacturer gets the federal tax credit for their corporate purchase of the vehicle which isn't restricted to US made cars. So even if a car you like doesn't qualify for a purchase tax credit, you can get a lease credit for the $7500 from the dealer from most dealers. For cars for most seniors, right now there is a fantastic VOLVO EX30 coming out that you can order online. It is a SMALL 4-door car that starts at only $35000, and in this base model it is actually very very nice as is, and sufficient. The single motor version is very peppy and rear wheel drive, and because EVs are quite heavy, it will have good traction in rain and even snow without 4 wheel drive, but may of course need snow tires in winter, so ask the dealer. You may not need the upgrade to 4 wheel drive. But it is a $5000 upgrade. It is a great car, and the range is much better at 275. I am ordering this myself. The other fantastic car to consider is the Hyundai Ionic 5. It looks very retro and maybe too young perhaps, but if you like the styling, it is very well made and full featured. You can get the full $7500 in credit toward purchase even though it doesn't qualify for the tax credit, it is just a promotion from Hyundai. Both Volvo and Hyundai have great warranties and free maintenance, and roadside assistance. These are what you want! But for Hyundai don't forget that you can also buy this car USED for much less because EV's depreciate at a rapid clip! You can buy a 2023 Ionic 5 with 200 miles on it, fully loaded, for 10K less than a 2024 brand new. But with the current $7500 cash credit promo on new, you may not want to. The Teslas are also priced great right now and you can buy those very discounted if you buy them used since the rental car companies have decided to sell their inventories recently. This has lowered the price overall on Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Don't forget to get insurance quotes, that might help you decide which car. These cars I mentioned are the best for not only retained resale value but warranty and service, and decent driving range. I hope you find it useful.

The range is fine as most seniors (and drivers for that matter) aren't banging out 225 road trips and if you have access to a home charging (lv1 & or 2) you're good.

I totally agree on the Id.4. I always see older people at chargers with them and they say that the suspension is really soft and plush. The “built in the USA” factor is also major factor for older people.
@tjs11410 ай бұрын
If the editor spent a bit more time doing research and less time trying to be 'funny' he would have found out that the id4 really is the one many seniors are going for because it isn't complicated, is spacious inside and has an upright seating position and low step in.

I’m 73. This is pretty patronizing. Perhaps, more accurately, it is insulting to people with more than six decades of experience. There’s little in the vehicles mentioned that suits them particularly to seniors. Remember, boomers were the folks who brought you what you call technology today. So computers on wheels are not alien concepts to people over 65. Ease of ingress and egress is a characteristic appreciated by everyone but-you are right-particularly by those of us with arthritis. And most of us seniors do have arthritis to one degree or another. What you didn’t mention is room for the grandchildren. Some of us do have grandchildren to chauffeur around. Flood-capable is a function that not many people think about but that can come in handy over greater areas of the country as floods become more prevalent. While this capability isn’t specific to seniors, it does enable them to be more self-sufficient in a less predictable world-climate-wise. Budget-friendly is, again, a feature most everyone is looking for, but one issue with BEVs generally is the cost of repair and the dramatically increasing cost of insurance for them. Gas is better in this department. Teslas are fine, but the company’ dramatic price cuts lately shows a callous disregard for any existing customers interested in preserving the value of their vehicles, and such a class certainly and particularly includes seniors, since-as you mention-seniors are not in a good position to replace lost asset value. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know.

I’m glad you said “generally speaking” because I’m 72 and I still like performance cars. Remember, many of us boomers were raised on muscle cars and got hooked on cool cars that go fast. I have had perfomance cars my whole life and still do. Don’t want flashy? I have a hybrid BMW i8 and love it. Don’t want sporty driving dynamics? My full electric EV6 GT with 576 horsepower will pin you to the seats. Not all of us older folks want to age gracefully.

@@michaelc2254 I'm fully on-board with your appreciation of the EV6 GT, though I do lean toward a GV60/70 compromise. I grew up with muscle cars and computers, but I don't want a tablet on wheels with no blended braking like Tesla/Rivian.

I made it a whole one minute and eleven seconds. When will car companies relearn that handling prowess is enhanced by a compliant suspension? Buckboard rides offer LESS sporty driving that a suspension that absorbs imperfections. I drove a Volvo 240 wagon for years. It would lean like a certain tower in Pisa, but it would dig in and go, leaving "sporty" cars in the dust, but on the road the ride was more relaxing. It simply worked. As for the rest of your list, anyone, of any age, should be wanting those same things. Maybe some folks need to learn the capabilities of cars built for the road rather than Nurburgring.

One thing you don't consider is insurance costs. I live in the UK with insurance groups of 1 - 50, as you get older insurance rises, eventually astronomically and probably to dissuade driving at all. My next vehicle will probably be my last and any vehicle in an insurance group above 30 is not going to make my shopping list.

Some of these have been out for a few years now. Not a ton on the used market, but they will be increasingly available. The used market will take some time to build up. There is one older model that wasn't mentioned. Jaguar iPace. It's a nice car that got rave reviews for driving dynamics. Not a ton were sold but they can be found used sometimes. If you count honorable mentions, the Model 3 is probably the most available used EV.
