Alright, another fan of blue! I bought this as my first 7-string earlier in the year and love it. Mine did have a little fret buzz out of the box, but that was because the A string had a bulge near the first fret. Put in new strings and no more buzz. The neck feels really nice and the pickups are solid for the price. I did swap mine out for some Alpha and Omegas though, and now it sounds great. My only complaint is the input jack, which started cutting out after a few months. Got that fixed when I upgraded the pickups. Really great guitar for the price.

@@mikeoxvereyverymassive20 yes, and I can't believe you get a 7 string guitar this good for this kind of money. As with all cheaper guitars, you should play it first because I'm sure at this price point there's a lot of variance on QC, BUT it's my only 7 string and after almost a year, it still plays as good as my other Ibanezes, and I paid at least 4x as much for them. Great video. I cant decide which finish to get, or really whether to get it at all, but theres some sellers on reverb that have these up for 200$ or less and claim to do setups too. I got an offer for one that doesnt specify a setup, this finish, for 180$. I was disappointed that these have 3-way switches instead of 5, but really.. Having just neck, middle and bridge prevents option paralysis. Bridge for C H U G and necc for... not chug. Whatever finish I get I’ll likely end up putting a custom design on it and refinishing over it, thankfully gloss is more consistent/easier to deal with than matte, since matte buffs itself out naturally over time. That, and since it’s cheap I can just upgrade it with whatever, incrementally.. Maybe there’s just something endearing about project guitars. Probably the investment put into it, and the satisfaction of watching it progress. One comment here mentioned maple necks are brighter... Maybe that helps eliminate mud? But at the same time.. Maybe it has less crushing low-end... I dunno. What do you think? How thick would you say the neck is? Ive got two Ibanezes, 1 1991/92 EX120, and a 2008 Gio. The EX120 is the thinnest, flattest neck I own, but the Gio is a bit thicker. I found a listing that looks identical to my Gio: Ibanez GSA60-BKN electric guitar Im gonna assume it’s at least decently thin, considering it’s an Ibanez neck. It doesn’t look glossy, it’s probably very lightly finished or feels almost bare, right? My Gio pretty much feels like bare wood, unlike my glossy EX120. I also read a comment about the input jack dying after a couple months.. Ive never had that happen, though I guess jacks probably arent the most expensive thing to replace. How low would you say the action is? No fret buzz? No dead bends? My EX120 has some atrocious dead bends but thats likely due to its fret wear. How’s the tuning stability/tightness? Im considering the Ibanez RGMS7 multi-scale, since it’s got a longer scale, but it’s more than double the price of this one. Are the volume/tone pots smooth and gradual? My Gio’s pots are mostly all or nothing, and the knobs are plastic and a little loose. But it’s better than most of my other guitars, since it’s at least not crackly. I guess that’s what happens when all my electrics were bought used.
@ChiefSweet4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I would say the neck is probably similar to your other gio neck it’s thin but not that thin. It’s also not glossy either. The input jack happens a lot most common problem with guitars honestly with the amount of times your pulling the cable in and out. Super cheap to fix. The knobs feel great and have a smooth and gradual volume no crackle. The frets feel amazing no dead bends and no fret buzz

@ChiefSweet This is a great review! This guitar, I'm going to have tot est this one out at guitar center soon. I use to have an ESP LTD M-17 back in the day. was disappointed with that 7 string. cause it had a 25.5 inch scale. scale length is too short in my personal opinion. for the past 9 years, the Jackson JS 22-7 is what's been on my mind. especially during the time i got that ESP 7 string. i got rid of that guitar almost 3 years ago because it broke. now that I'm getting back into the world of 7 string guitar again, I am sold on the Jackson JS 22-7 HT guitar. if you want another 7 string, pick up one for yourself. It has a 26.5 inch scale, perfect scale length for drop tuning. I will keep you posted on how the guitar works out for me buddy. I am stoked. I already picked up a Jackson 7 and 8 string multi-gig bag. Had to get it from guitar center since amazon is out of that gig bag. Now that the gig bag arrived a few days ago, it has been untouched. zippers on it are a bit flimsy. I'm going to pick up the Jackson JS 22-7 HT guitar soon. once that guitar arrives, I will put it in my gig bag. I already bought. Will keep you posted on the 7 string's playing ability, and will let you know how well it stays in tune. keep it metal brother. and get yourself a jackson 7 string. reviews on that 7 string dinky are superb. Just waiting for the prices on this guitar to go down. I noticed on amazon, that the guitar was $159 a few weeks ago. if the price goes down to $159, i'm taking that chance, and getting the guitar when it's around that exact price.

Just bought a used 2020 from guitar center. Wow. So I have had the newer jackson with black out pickups $199 it was muddy. I got the schecter demon 7 antique white and returned it also but was ok. Then the jackson satin black 2020 with exposed pickups and that thing is awesome but this guitar is crazy. I probably should buy a new one. Someone played this one to death in 1 year. Even with strings almost sawed thru on the d string it still sound better than other 7 strings costing over 500. They played this thing silly to the point it needed a fret job. Unfortunately I think it wasn't a professional job. I had to re spray the neck where they had removed most of the clear coat. I think to try to remove a finger nail mark. Either way they played the hell out of it and never changed the strings and that says alot. To wear the frets in one year is alot of aggressive playing. Yet body is pristine. Neck has a doink or 2. Seriously amazing pickups compared to the average Ibanez stuff. Good video. Couldn't agree more. And maple !maple 🍁maple need more maple.

What's the difference between this and GRG7221QA they kinda seem familiar
@ChiefSweet3 жыл бұрын
This guitar is made of poplar and the grg7221qa is maple. As well as it having a rosewood fretboard. Those are the only differences

Own this exact model, its ok but the action cant be set up low and the pickups are not great.

Very interesting could be your model. On mine the action is super low. Lower than any guitar I own.

I use to have a 7 string RG series I bought for 250 bucks back in 2011 😥 but one of crack head cousin sold without my consent I just picked up a 7 string Gio and other than the RG brand and maybe smoother quirks and features I glide through the Gio's frets no problem! Yeah its made in China BUT! Ibanez has strict quality control so it doesn't really matter if its not from Vietnam. Especially if your in budget 🎸👍
@ChiefSweet3 жыл бұрын
Most definitely. If it plays good that’s all that matters.

Tried one. Was not impressed at all. Fret buzz, sharp frets, electronics/wiring was sketchy out of the box. But-you get what you pay for. For $200-250 dollars plus a fret job, plus a re-wiring and new pickups? You could have a 7-string guitar that you will/can play right out of the box. In truth-never been a fan of any Ibanez. For a beginner, I suppose it would be fun to learn on a 7 string of this level of build. Like he stated-best guitar for $200-don't expect a Schecter or a PRS.
