I’ve owned my ‘94 XJS V12 for a dozen years as of this comment. I absolutely LOVE IT! Mine is bright red, with a biscuit interior. It’s now 25 years old and it’s my daily driver! It’s an amazing vehicle, and driving it is a thrill each and every time. It’s very quick, and feels muscular at all speeds. It’s especially impressive on the highway: smooth and powerful! I’ll probably never, ever sell her!

I had a '92 XJS V12 and had a Tremec 6-speed manual put into it by Keisler Engineering in Tennessee. It transformed the car, vastly improving the performance and driving enjoyment. Wish I still had it....

Not only was there a loud clacking sound after engine start but looking at the gauges, the voltmeter indicted well under the 13 volt line meaning it wasn't charging, or at least that's what was indicating. A check with a voltmeter placed across the battery while running will tell if the alternator is actually putting out the correct voltage and charging the battery. It should read somewhere between 13.5 and 14.2 volts unloaded. The gauge could be off, reading low but still should be checked as that will add to the maint after purchase. Also the oil pressure was reading low as well. Again, could be the gauge or sending unit so if you are going to sell a car, and $21,000 is high, the oil pressure should be checked and verified with an analog direct reading gauge to verify correct pressure. Again, for $21,000, all gauges should be perfect and verified. I don't want to have just spent $21,000 to buy a car not knowing if I have an oil pressure problem on my V12.

Sounds like the alternator bearing . Other than that it's a beautiful car. Ok saw one for sale $1300 but of course it says it needs engine tun-up, a new convertible top and new paint job hmm...wonder how much money would have to be put out lol

Difficult to answer. I’m a big fan of the XJ-s, I know it’s history inside out. Before 1981 we had the pre-HE models. These are rare, some people try asking more money for them due to their rarity. Personally, I wouldn’t touch one. They have the least power of the V12s, no wood or cruise control, terrible fuel consumption and the worst build quality. The reason they are rare is that they’ve rusted away. These were built under British Leyland during the worst time for strikes. In 1981 HE heads came, increasing power and fuel efficiency, the wiring was redesigned to improve reliability and the interior was improved. In 1984 Jaguar returned to independence, build quality greatly improved. Then in 1990 Ford brought them, build quality got even better and the car was given a couple of facelifts. The later ones are the best built and the celebration model commands a premium. Personally, I don’t like the facelift as much to look at. Too modern, not classical. Same with the interior, the old chrome mirror stalks, bakerlite buttons and thin rim wheel gave way to modern plastic switches. Not as nice, but that’s just an opinion. I’d personally hunt for the 80’s coupe. To be honest though, convertibles will always fetch the most. There are sports versions as well, the TWR and the XJR-s, these hold their value too.

Had the 1995 V12 coupe and -- hate to counter this car's horrible reliability rep but -- mine was 100% PROBLEM-FREE! Not one problem in 3 years. White with white leather, and the ladies I dated responded to its special looks with great affection! See, by 1995 Jag had worked out most/all the problems and if you find one from 1993 on, buy it. 6 cyl or 12, either way a great reliable bargain now.

Well Done for being the only American I have heard pronounce "Jaguar" properly, using all three syllables. However there is NO such thing as a COUP. It is pronounced COUPAY because the Coupe has an E Acute at the end, but Microsoft prevents people writing English with incorporated French dedrived words.

About $ 10.000 too much. And after that it will be a money pit which just keeps on draining your bank account with trustworthy regularity. The advantage is that you will get to know the mechanics of the garage by their first names. And also the names of their wifes and children if you drive it long enough. Trust me; I know.

It's one of those rare cars like the Mini or Beetle (and possibly the only luxury car) which became a classic in its own lifetime. I love that my 1992 XJS has pretty much the same 70s style as an early one, but with 90s goodies and build quality thanks to ford running the show by then instead of BL.
