Abbott & Costello were together for 20 years. 1936-1956. During that time they performed Who’s On First literally thousands of times. Since they had it down to an art form, and both could improv or ad-lib, it is said that they never performed it exactly the same way twice.

@ Not complicated?! That's adorable haha. It's totally complicated, partly because it's modular; if you watch other versions of it on KZbin, it's a little different every time, they can mix and match sections of it and they're playing off each other as to which part goes next. They're just really, really, really practiced at it. (Also the word is "preeminent," which means "most notable"!)

In the original radio broadcast, Lou Costello was supposedly to take the place of injured Yankees great, Joe Dimaggio. Lou Costello asks the Yankees supposed manager, Bud Abott, for the player's names. There are some slight variations between various versions of this famous routine but they are essentially the same. Another word game from the radio show concerned a imaginary coming up game between the NY Yankees and the Cleveland Indians. "Is Feller pitching?" {Bob Feller, a hall of fame pitcher especially known for his amazing fast ball.] "Of course there is a fella pitching. But there is only one feller on the team." "You mean they are going to put up 1 fella against 9 Yankees?!" "No, they are going to play 9 fellas but there is only one fella that is pitching, and the fella that is pitching is Feller." etc., you get the idea. Abbott and Costello's "Who's on FIrst?" routine is the signature routine of this great comedy duo and one that will live forever.

Brilliant comedic timing and memorization, the best! There are no comedy stand-up duos on the scene today. Of course, today's comedy is completely different, and most of it is filled with X-rated profanity. You will notice in this clip that Lou says "I don't give a darn," not "I don't give a damn." "Damn" would never get past the TV censor back then. In their time there wasn't a better family friendly comedy act than Abbott and Costello. Kids loved Lou. Abbott and Costello were one of a kind.
