What about a mic? I recently picked up my m4 Mac mini and was disappointed to learn it does not have one built in

Nope. I liked all the choices of your accessories. Especially the Dongle and external SSD storage.

@@BETT3RTH4NU5 Dang good thought! I just use my airpod pros, but that is really interesting. The camera I put on the list does have a pretty solid mic, so that's at least two birds one stone.

I love my new M4 mini. I have an Apple trackpad, Logitech full size keyboard & mouse. Several USB C external drives & I am using a 40” TV as my monitor. Lastly, I have a dongle that allows me to plug in anything I want except a toaster or kitchen sink.

Hahah that’s great! How do you like using the TV as the monitor? I’ve tried it in the past but it ended up just being too big for me

Two favorite dongles are BaseUS 7-1 for $20 USD and Anker 555 8-1 for $50. The latter has faster data transfer speeds, so I would recommend that to photographers with lots of clients or a fast growing clientel. 2 Type A ports with 10 Gb/s data transfer speed, an HDMI 2.0 port (18 Gb/s), and an SD card reader & micro SD reader with 110 MB/s data transfer speed. The BaseUS is more cost-effective for those on a tighter budget, college photography students, or hobby photographers. 3 Type A ports with 5 Gb/s data transfer speed, an HDMI 2.0 port (18 Gb/s), and an SD card reader & micro SD reader with 60 MB/s data transfer speed.

Nice! Yeah it’s crazy how good dongles have gotten for relatively cheap! Thanks for checking out the video.
@dennis_aus_neukoellnКүн бұрын
I have been using the Anker 555 for about 18 months now, have been travelling with it and used it on my iPad mini. It’s absolutely worth the investment, holds up very well and just works. The only downside for mobile workflow is having to check which port is the PD. I just put a sticker on the dongle so I can quickly see where to plug the power. Bought a Mac mini today and currently I am in the process of importing all the pictures from my last journey into my Lightroom catalogue so I am using the dongle again. Great piece of kit.

If you have a wired apple or macally keyboard, those often have two USB 2 outputs. It's not optimal, and you still need one USB-C adapter, but it's a cheap start.

Yeah that’s true, good call. Also some monitor arms have small docks built in. I just installed one yesterday that had that option
@Realist-m9c2 күн бұрын
Depending on your needs. The Caldigit Ts4 has 18 ports, a combination of USBc, USBa, 2 card readers etc. I find for 3 monitors, an audio interface, a few Sony card readers, and some NAS/external storage, the ports get used up pretty quickly. That’s my only concern with the Mac mini.
@JonAdamsTech2 күн бұрын
Yeah for sure, I’ve always wanted the caldigit docks, it’s just so hard to pull the trigger with the price tag! Do you have one?
@Realist-m9c2 күн бұрын
@ I have one on order, and I agree about the price tag, it’s overpriced . I went backwards and forwards before finally ordering one. I’m swapping my PC workstation for a Mac mini M4 Pro, so it needs quite a few peripherals and cables to make up for the loss of a full size tower.

Does your samsung t9 run on 2000MB/s or 1000MB/s write speed on m4?
@yixinbao3402 күн бұрын
it would be 1000MB/s because the thunderbolt ports on Macs aren't compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. The maximum speed for T9 on Mac via the thunderbolt port is 10Gbps instead of 20Gbps.

A ~nice price for what you get, but way too few USB C ports and memory (which) as usual with Apple is far too expensive. 16gb shared ram should be the least you would ever want in a new computer. Same with 256gb internal - which should be 512gb as the standard. This is a very cheesy way for Apple to make a boatload of money on both memories, which is BS. I'd want 32gb of "unified" ram, which is what I'm running now on my 2017 iMac Pro (plus 8gb on the vid card), plus it has a .5TB internal SS drive, AND IT WAS MADE 7 YEARS AGO!!! I bought it with 8 and bought new cards for it to boost it to 32 FOR LESS THAN $300 back in '17. Why would I want less than that in a new Mini? But you can't even get the Mini with more than 24gb, and that much costs $400 extra, which is also total BS. You KNOW Apple makes a killing on this. Plus, you have to buy an astropad Luna to connnect this to a 2017+ iMac, which is more BS, since a lot of us will be doing that to keep the 5K monitor going. Nope. This is a great unit, but under supplied by a lot. The hype on this M4 version is so intense right now, but I'm willing to bet most who buy them will be complaining about the price bumps to get one that functions well in today's computing world. I love my iMac and V10 iPad, but Apple is still playing games, and I just don't like it and the 'less than' stuff they keep peddling.

Yeah man i feel you but having used this thing and other M series chips in the past, the swap memory is so freaking fast that you don't even notice it when it kicks in. I know it shortens the life of the ssd but with a base model you're probably not keeping it for the entire life of the computer, most people will upgrade before the ssd gives out. But i also love building pc's so I totally get the frustration, when it's just sooooo cheap to upgrade ram and storage on a pc at any given time. I feel like apple is in a good spot but they definitely need to get called out on their crap for the insane prices they charge for ram and extra storage. Thanks for checking out the video and the thoughtful comment.
