I can't take this seriously if there's no Monkey Island 2, Full Throttle and Sam and Max hit the road on there

I feel you. Lechuck’s Revenge is my favorite Monkey Island game. The others are in my top 10. But what games would you take out to nominate those three? The committee leaned heavily on the games that innovated for the first year of the Hall of Fame

This list is already too centred on LucasArts, and you want even more?

Infocom games were the first games that introduced real sentence parsing to the adventure game genre. They also introduced complexity and nuance in adventure gaming that none of us saw back in the 80s. One of them should've made the list.

On the game section or developer section?
@dontwanttojoingoogle17996 ай бұрын
@@AdventureGameHotspot Well, both, right? I can't think of any game that used a language parser before them. All games I can think of use the subject-verb input. Even throwing something like "Open the door" was not kosher in, say, a Scott Adams game let alone "Open the door and wait for the rain to stop". I've played with bison and yacc to parse input. I'm sure tools got more sophisticated since then, but that stuff was hard! But from a game standpoint, I remember games like, what was it... Deadline? No. Witness. Witness, where things would happen asynchronously. You could overhear conversations behind closed doors, but if you weren't anywhere near the door, you'd miss the conversation completely. I can't think of many adventure games that ever implemented that kind of play. Come to think of it ... the only game I can think of that had something like that was The Last Express. Another game that probably should've been on the list as well. See.. I'm not even sure if the hi-res adventures should be on the list. Don't get me wrong; I loved them. But they weren't completely innovative. Wizardry had already done graphics like that, and ... I don't remember exactly -- I was really young when I played them -- but weren't they subject-verb games too?

Le'Chucks Revenge is my favourite game (together with Gabriel Knight: Sins of The Fathers), very disappointed it didn't make it. And of course, how could you not include Zork? I wish text adventures were more well known and talked about in the retro adventure game community, forgotten gems.

In my heart, Fate of Atlantis of course belongs in the HOF - but I really think Last Crusade should go in before, because it was a movie tie-in game that absolutely worked and was a landmark title. I think it’s the more historically significant game. That said, Maniac Mansion must be in the inaugural class. One of the giants on which shoulders the industry stands today.

Only two nominated games were not created by Sierra or LucasArts, and one of them is the first adventure game ever. It's a pity that titles such as The Last Express or Blade Runner didn't make it to the list. I always have the feeling that the hegemony of two producers meant that several really noteworthy titles from the 90s would have a greater reputation if only Sierra or LucasArts were their authors ;)

If it makes you feel better, both of those games were very close. I was a little disappointed and almost embarrassed that the two dominated the list, but fair is fair I guess. I very much expected an Infocom game in there.

Huh, surprised to see 2 Gabriel Knight titles! KQ and MI make a bit more sense. But, hall of fame nominees with some series having multiple entries, yet without even a nod to LSL? :( KQ6 might be my favorite ever but I feel KQ1 is the most hall of fame-y of the bunch.
