This is a in-depth training guide for newbs to EFT or existing players who struggle with PVP to become a more confident and skilled PMC in combat and increasing their survival rate, avoiding things like trying to go for meta builds, running stashes or doing loot runs for ledex or bitcoin to maximize their rubles / money, or have to worry about dying over and over on larger maps like Customs, Woods, or Shoreline, trying to complete quests. Listen to this advice and you WILL become a better player faster than you ever thought!

Veritas, I have been following you for awhile. And I have owned tarkov for 3 years. But in owning it 3 years I probably haven't even logged 45 hours of total play time on it. I was an on and off player. Part of this was my job getting in the way at the time, part of this was the steep skill gap this game has but I have always enjoyed it. Recently with patch 0.13 I have come back on, having last played at 12.12 with intertia introduced. This time however, I decided I wanted to go all in with this game. Ive watched enough of your streams and pestily's streams that I feel the itch to "get good" THANK GOD FOR THIS VIDEO. Veritas, you produce Tarkov masterpieces when it comes to the content you upload to KZbin! But of all the masterpieces, this video has got to be the coup de grâce of all videos. Dare I say the absolute best Tarkov video ever created?! Best because it tackles the very purpose and essense of this game with a full blown strategy...for if you can't figure out the absolute basics of playing, then why would you play? This video serves as a launching pad for ANYONE who is struggling in Tarkov. Before this video, I still had gear fear...and AI scavs sometimes would wipe me out. After this video, I just dropped 7 in factory before extract. It only took me a day of taking advice from this video to start actually performing. THANK YOU! Thank you for taking the time to make this to help others, and thank you for being so articulate and educated in your presentation. Truly, some of the absolute best Tarkov content on the internet.

@@R2B2YT update: sometimes shit happens but for the past couple of days I haven't died once as a PMC in raid. My last raid I killed 5 scavs with minimal damage & with a backpack so heavy it drained stamina just walking (full of loot). This works. The strategy of this game is played so differently to other shooters. Just throw out everything youve ever known about how you play other shooters and accept the fact that this game requires retraining yourself on FPS. Its really rewarding once you figure it out. The stakes in this game are real...its so easy to get killed. So theres alot more thought placed into what you are doing and why you are doing it. Overtime of playing, but rather playing consistently it will stop being such a huge challenge and start being very rewarding. The biggest advice I can give to start seeing improvements is to give 0 fucks about the gear you have on. That doesn't mean you go in with a trash setup, but just remember that gear can be replaced or looted. In the past everytime I engaged in a fight, there was this sinking stomach butterfly feeling of life or death lol, almost like I was really there and doing whatever it took to get out of a fight alive. Dying is apart of tarkov. One other piece of advice I would recommend is to set your music volume to 0. This might just be me...but the moment I made the music 0, is the moment I saw the biggest increase in survival after following the teachings of this video. There is something about hearing the tarkov hard rock music before a raid where you know you could loose everything that seems to psyche you out as you sit in long queue times. But a silent queue time provides a whole lot more peace and focus. Thats just my thoughts on why I feel im doing better. I liken it too not hearing a familiar tone that I always hear before I go into a raid and inevitably fail. Hearing nothing, calms you way down and helps you not have that feeling of "another one" Good luck. Everyday is improvement Edit: also, prioritize bleeds before healing. Say you win a fight, but die right after, you probably have 2 heavy bleeds you didn't even realize. Bleeds suck away your HP. So if you win, stop bleeds first, maybe heal right after or loot quickly, and reposition for heals and blacked limbs. But not stopping bleeds right away or broken bones is most certainly gonna result in you dying right after a won fight.

One thing that I'd like to re-emphasize for using this technique is the importance of occasionally doing something else. If you find yourself bored, tired, or overly frustrated with your raids and you find your performance getting worse, don't hesitate to go try something else for a bit, regardless of whether or not your schedule says you're "ready". Your body and mind have evolved for thousands of years to tell you when you're approaching burnout, so listen to them.

Woah this well said. This happens alot to me as I'm too thick headed and determined to quit. I can literally die like 10 raids in a row, and I'll still be like "This next raid is gonna be the one". I've gotten better though at realizing when that happens I do get burned out and play the game only because of my stubbornness. Burnout is such a real thing.

Set small goals you know you can reach for yourself, one at a time "Improve at the game" is vague, and at best too long-term to matter as an objective. "Survive a factory raid with 1 PMC kill" is direct, straight forward and achievable. Once you do that, turn it into "Survive a factory raid with 3 PMC kills" and go on like that This is not only helpful in tarkov but anything in life really, aim at very concrete and very short-term goals that will act as small steps to your ultimate goal of improving at that thing

This is really, really good advice. I started in the middle of last wipe, and I'm 41 on this one, but I'm still not very confident with my PvP abilities. I'm absolutely going to start doing Factory offline raids with your rules in place to get a bit better. I've become complacent because I always play with friends who play aggressively and I either end up dying first or picking up the scraps most of the time.

This is the best learning video on EFT on KZbin. I am currently going through your video a third or fourth time. I have been playing Tarkov for maybe a couple weeks. The pacing keeps it compelling, and you give enough actionable advice that feels digestible and attainable. I've been playing Tarkov and slowly improving over the past couple weeks, and this video helped me reflect on what has been most impactful to my skillset improving: repeated exposure to combat scenarios improving my response time and spatial awareness, as well as minimizing my reluctance to engage in routine engagements. my number one tip for gear fear, and how i got over it, was to just use it, at the end of the day its just pixels, and even if you die as you spawn, its fine, on to the next raid. one day someone asked a streamer (i think pestily) how to get over gear fear, and the dude just told him "this way" and just exited the raid he was in, losing all of his stuff. that kind of got the point across to me personally, idk if its of any help to you, but i hope it is!

This game is going to wipe many more times before the official release. I always start playing better once I think of the current wipe as practice for the next one. As much as I love hoarding good weapons, I will either lose them when the game wipes (resets everyone's progress), or right now out in the battlefield. Better to die with them than have them just disappear from my stash some day.

Great video. I learned a lot of what you said by accident and totally agree with the learning strategy. Was trying to learn the game as people suggested: learning Customs and doing quests and was always terrified of Factory. At some point I got a weekly quest to survive factory 22 times and I committed to it. Not only did I manage to get it done in several hours, I had a great time doing it even when I died a bunch. It changed the way that I make decisions while playing the game and worked on the very basics which translate to all other maps as you so rightly pointed out. Movement, fighting, looting efficiently, healing, weapon handling, etc - all of it translates. I will add just one thing to what you said that I found to be incredibly useful for players in the early stages of getting good at surviving Factory. When you spawn in, you should already have a plan and move immediately based on where you spawned. I was dying a LOT trying to wait and listen and then decide what to do. Do not be afraid to run around the map right away and either get a good defensive position on another player spawn point, or push contested loot, etc. The worst thing you can do is sit still and wait. If you spawn forklifts for example, you have to push out immediately, or if you spawn glass hallway you have the option to push office relatively safely and hold an angle down the hall. Do whatever you want, as long as it isn't sitting still.

One of the best vids on tarkov I’ve seen. For me a lotta the of the learning curve has been/is dealing with the fear and stress. I came back to the game this most recent wipe after not playing for over a year (first started playing back 2 wipes before the bigger expansion of customs). It feels a lot better mostly cause of a shift in confidence and ability to handle stress (also have less anxiety than I used to). Also side note: offline raids have been (for me at least) more than anything a good way of helping me get over the fear of getting shot at and dying. While I used to flinch and almost feel my heart burst out of my chest, now I often just laugh when I die.

I just found your channel and honestly, you are the closest, nah cross that, the only channel actually dissecting the problem with new players, is that you can’t learn by just keep on dying. Hat off you to and I’m now a subscriber. When ever I spawned, I just don’t know where the heck I’m at, maps online doesn’t exactly have a name for a the location so you go on and just name it, the spawn at Old Gas station I just call it “death trap” for my very first raid because I can’t get out of that area and there is no exactly guidance. I literally lost 6 hours of going in, die under 3 minutes while exploring till’ I know there is literally 1 gate to get through which there likely a scavs check point or a sniper waiting for you on the other side so you die and again because it’s so open and i don’t know how to trace the voice line until I get a bullet in my head and yep, back again. Also, I just wish that there is some short of match making in this game so new players can learn together as there will be new players around your skills.

Been playing on Woods the last few weeks and it's really fun to scav on once you get the basic layout down although as a newer player I died A LOT trying to get scav kills for a quest. It's so damn pretty too, I sometimes stop to just admire the landscape.

Great video. I’m a new player a couple months into my first wipe, and I initially tried factory to get my PVP bearings, but it was just too fast paced for me. Frustration would often get the better of me. Interchange actually ended up being BY FAR the best map for me to learn on. You can choose to avoid the mall completely, and just stick to the outer loop, so there’s less PVP but not zero PVP. The map is basically a square, easy to learn the layout. Emercom to Power Station to Railway to Scav Camp, it’s so much easier initially to just think “I need to go to that top corner to extract” rather than “I need to get to this one landmark and then this other one and then I’m at the extract.” And this map also makes it so most of your engagements are linear, while moving in a straight line from one corner to another. And also with those easy to learn ground/barrel caches you can get some pretty solid loot to start out with. Don’t sleep on Interchange!

I agree with a lot of this. Factory is something you should focus on after you’ve scuffed your elbows a few times Getting used to gun/movement mechanics. Tarkov is more than just pvp shenanigans, that’s what makes it unique. But yeah, Factory is a place that instills gear fear in new players.

As a new player I must say that the toughest enemy to fight is the matchmaking time. I didn't realize how much impact it had on me untill I compared it to Hunt showdown or Marauders. There I'm always happy to get back into the game and learn from my mistakes, in tarkov instead, it's very hard sometimes (especially if you have only few hours). I'm just a beginner and I'm loving tarkov, I just wish matchmaking time would be shorter.

I basically just started playing last night, pulled an all nighter, lost a lot gained a lot. I couldn’t have been more happy when he said factory is the best map to learn on, I also enjoy customs. Factory for me means it’s very easy to learn in just a few hours of playing on it, in practice offline, or as a scav, it’s super fun and easy. Now online is different, it’s definitely harder but I needed up making some plays too. Good luck everyone and enjoy the game!

My first experience with tarkov was playing woods. Probably the worst starting map hahaha i avoided using map genie until I learnt the map myself. Because I didn't want to cheat myself of the intended experience and cheese it. Man it was frustrating but also the most addictive feeling from a game. Soul clenching anxiety and fear. Love it. Great and informative video.

Great video! This is my first wipe, and I actually kind of followed the route you suggested. After running Customs almost non-stop, I noticed I was losing almost every fight I got into. So I decided that every day I had time to play, I would take maybe 4-5 kits and run Factory. Most of it I got back from insurance, and it made me much better at indoor/close quarters PvP and I win about half the fights, even when they severely out-gear me. I still have trouble with open spaces on maps like lighthouse and woods and quickly identifying targets that are shooting at me. but that will come with time. I highly suggest this route, and maybe scaving on the side to learn maps and make money.

Kudos mate, quality teaching. It's easy to give people the answers and get the clicks from people just wanting to get "the answer" but explaining reasoning and logic behind decisions is what players need to learn and improve as opposed to simply complete a specific task. As players though, we need to make that decision to get better, not just copy paste someone's loot-route, gun build or method of cheesing a task. The more difficult choice is usually the right one.

This video could be 10 minutes, not 23. Your habit of over-explaining blatantly obvious concepts is tiring and at times even annoying but after watching you irregularly for years it seems you won't stop doing it. You say that most people don't give good advice only to then make a 23 minute video of mediocre tips that most people already know about

Dude I felt this too. When I did quests on factory is when I gradually (but not completely) lost fear of PvP. I felt so confident after those raids even when I lost gear. And having completed those quests, I've returned to Shoreline, Customs etc. where pvp isn't nearly as frequent. Which made me slowly lose my confidence and again become afraid of pvp'ing. Resort on Shoreline and dorms on Customs are also amazing at giving pvp experience. Emotionally, it was hard for me to enter those places but my confidence in PvP was directly tied to how frequently I had balls to enter dorms or resort.
