Simple but effective cook system 👍 Just came back from Ashokan High Point Loop trail overnighter for Spring Equinox. Had to trudge thru snow field. Was hoping for less snow or non. Enjoyed mild, calm, blue bird day.

what are you using for shoes? Are you wearing some kind of fleece? How does it work in the cold ?

Hi quick question. I was under the impression that the Caldera Cone alone would hold up the pot and its contents without the requirement of the tent stakes, by the lip of the pot. Are the tent stakes essential if using an alco stove... Many thanks in advance, great little video....

Depends on which model you are using and the pot. For most models including the original and the sidewinder you will not need tent stakes for the alcohol stove. My model is an older style that is no longer available from what I understand. If I was buying new today I would go with the sidewinder and a pot in the 600-900ml range. No stakes for alcohol mode, only in wood stove mode.

If you put insulation underneath the burner, would it be more efficient? Does the ground take heat away from the burner?
