Motorman, i have been watching and learning from you for years. I have great respect for you and appreciate your service as a motorman and educator. I just got back from my local Harley dealer and coincidentally your video popped up with a review of an identical Softail Heritage that I am considering. I turned on my TV and your U-Tube video was right there. I didn’t even search for it. I love my Road Glide, but I am getting up years and am concerned about its weight and my strength. I know from watching your videos that riding is more technic than strength, but I will feel safer on a lighter more agile bike. I am 66 years old and road my BMW GSA 1250 Adventure bike round trip Arizona to and from Pennsylvania. I still have the BMW and it is easy to handle and I would choose it in traffic, gravel parking lots and on a long trip over the Road Glide. All bikes have character and this year I want to ride around the country on a Harley. I learned a long time that the cost of a bike will be forgotten, but the experiences will last a lifetime. Thanks for your review Mr. Motorman! Perfect timing .

I just recently bought a 2023 heritage classic as my retirement gift after working 35 years as a NYS Prison Guard. First Harley Davison I have ever owned. I have always owned midsize Japanese cruisers, matter fact I still have my 2015 Honda shadow aero. I really like the heritage. The torque and power is awesome. The handling is incredible and the lean angle is quite impressive. In addition, very comfortable could ride for hundreds of miles. Really like the Heritage I’m a Harley Davidson…BELIEVER!!! Never experienced this kind of power, handling or comfort…… it’s the next level in motorcycling. I love your videos. Keep up the good work

Love my 2018 107 Heritage. Wife and I did a 4 day tour of the Scottish Highlands. Lots of serious twisties. Fully loaded with an XL Saddleman bag on back. Only thing I have changed is the stock pipes for V&H long shots and upgraded the pillion to a gel seat. 777 miles, no hassles plenty of grunt and comfort. Easy 2 up on tight turns.

I'm glad you did a review on the H.D. Softail. I love my Heritage. It's a 2018, 107 cubic inch engine, in Vivid Black. I did quite a few upgrades and modifications to it to include doing a stage II upgrade. Additionally, you can take off the passenger seat and windscreen and it looks just like a Softail Deluxe. I'm 61-year's old and I love the way this bike handles and its light weight. I'm a disabled veteran with leg and back issues and its light weight allows me to handle and maneuver it quite easily. I highly recommend this bike!

You’re spot on about the Heratige looks, it’s what sold me. And you need the chrome. Mine is only a 107 but I find it plenty fast enough for me, even the past weekend when I was able to ride it at a track day (one of your favorite tracks I believe, Inde Motorsports Ranch). Thanks for the test. PS …. I believe the rear suspension travel is over 4”, I used to know the lean angle too but I forgot, however as you said , the handling is relatively quick for a bike this size.

I just watched your video and I think you nailed it. I bought my first Harley 6 years ago. I have been off bikes for 20 yrs due to being a single parent. When I was ready to ride again I talked to 3 friends that rode. All 3 different age groups one late 60s rode all different Harleys and Triumphs. Another late 50s been riding his whole life his dream bike was the anniversary black and silver ultra. He is 6'3". The 3rd 5'7 late 40s. They all had the same story. They all did the bike shuffle. Buy a Fat Boy just not what he wanted. All 3 end up on Ultras same story from all. To hot with lower fairing to top heavy to cumbersome for cruiser style riding instead of touring longer rides. All 3 went to a Heritage. All 3 talked the weight distribution was a lot better than any Harley they owned. 1 of them would ride from New Orleans to Ga every couple of months 2 up. He said Heritage was actually more comfortable than the Ultra. So I went straight to the Heritage and bought a 2012 with the 103 and I love it. I don't ever expect I will buy another bike. Plenty of power and maneuverability. I am currently putting a stage 2 on it. I am also trying to put the right tour pack for the wife's comfort. I found some stretch leather bags I am looking at. Keep it in the wind and ride safe.

Greetings, Jerry... back in 2020 I had almost decided on the Heritage as my first Harley, but I went home to sleep on it. Hopped on the HD website and realized the Road King Standard was just another couple thousand and seemed to me to be a lot more motorcycle for the $$ and the local dealer just happened to have one with my name on it. I think if the Heritage had been chrome instead of blacked out, I might have pulled the trigger on it. But, at the time, it was only available as a Special. Glad to see they now offer it with the chrome package. As I get older, I might reconsider the Heritage at some point solely from a weight perspective. Hope all is well and that you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The road king and street glide have that heavy fairing high up that makes them top heavy. The fairing is an ancronism, who need a sat nav and a radio on a bike these days, we all have smart phones and Bluetooth. I rode a street glide recently for 3 weeks in New Zealand and never used the Harley-davidson sat nav or radio once.

Hey Jerry. You nailed it. I am 67 and own an Ultra Classic. I took your course on it two years ago. However, I have never been on a trip on it, so I really don't have a need for the big touring motorcycle. I just bought a Heritage Classic. It is the right bike for me. It has a bigger engine, and less weight, so the power to weight ratio is great. Being lower to the ground with less weight makes riding effortless. Thanks for the video.

Chrome engine but black mags. I added a heel shifter of course. I also added a Corbin seat for my wife’s comfort. Unfortunately it moved my butt back about 1.5”. I also put on some slip on mufflers so I could hear it😈. $250 from Amazon. The EVO was a big jump from the shovelhead. The Twin Cam was marginally better with issues of its own. The M8 motor is the best cruiser engine they have made yet. And the 114 is never at a loss for power.

Happy to see the review of the Heritage as I bought one this year. I love pretty much everything about it. I particularly like the linked brakes. Only complaint is after a few miles the seat has me slid back and it starts to bother my lower back. A seat pad will cure that though. It handles really well and is very agile. I came from the BMW so I was surprised at it's handling ability. Your review was spot on.

I have a 2014 Heritage black and chrome. I bought it used in 2020, because it still had more of the old school looks than the 2020. I absolutely love this motorcycle. I’ve recently bought a 2007 Electra Glide Classic because my wife feels more comfortable with the better back seat. The Electra Glide is also a lot better on my back with the driver back rest and lower handle bars. I do really like riding the Heritage though. I drive a truck 600 + miles per day six days a week and still managed to put over 10,000 miles on in the first year. It does have the heal shifter. I however do not like spoked wheels due to maintenance requirements and having to run inner tubes so my bike has cast wheels 😮 This bike is fun to run into the corners but alas I sometimes get carried away and scrape stuff that my other big bike, a 2016 Kawasaki Versys 1000, does not. Yeah, the Heritage out the door was slightly more than twice the price as my Versys was when I purchased it new in 2016 but I knew that going in. I’m happy and that’s all that counts.

Hey Jerry, I have a 2006 Deluxe and have been checking out the Heritage for an upgrade for a while now. This past weekend I finally made it a point to test ride a 2023 model and I was stunned at the difference in the ride when comparing this new Softail frame and suspension performance to my Deluxe. I'm 5'6" with a 30" inseam and I felt the bike fit very well. Very maneuverable, comfortable, excellent motor - I have to say, all the hype is legit! The only thing I had issue with was the vibration I felt in the floorboards - after a 15 minute ride my calves were pretty "buzzy" and everyone I know who has this newer style frame says they don't have that problem, so maybe it's this particular unit. Anyway, I enjoy your vids and wanted to comment on my maiden voyage on new Heritage...

I got my first bike and heritage (07 heritage classic) back in October and I have found that I never use the heel shifter except for the fact I that I have 11.5 ee (double wides) boots and the only way I can find neutral every single time the first time is by wedging the sides of my boots between both of the pegs or toe on bottom of the front shifter peg and side of my boot on top of the heel shifter arm in first and shifting up to neutral. I also had to switch the front shifter peg for the more flat Willie G peg to reliably get my foot underneath . I couldn't quite always get the round peg that came with the heritage to go on top my boot. I frequently found that the round peg wouldn't quite let my boot push it up and would slip off before shifting up and switched the front peg a week into owning it. No more problems since. Just loving the the Harley and loving the daily ride

your spot on ,; the heritage is very easy once moving as the tyres are not to wide , also the single disc will haul it back quick ;; no need for twin discs on a cruiser as the abs kicks in anyway ;; the rear shock can be changed for ride height , just for the folks in the states = as to why the 'uk' has abs as standard = it is law here to have abs on cc's above 125 , on mass produced bikes , smaller makers like ccm and some off road makers do not need to conform ,

You hit the nail on the head with who might want a Heritage Classic. I've only rode a XL883N as far as Harleys go, love it for being just raw motorcycle, I have Yamaha Bolt also, the Yamaha feels loose, plastic, and cheap compared the the 883. I'm gunning for a bagger now, and it's down to test riding a Heritage Classic, Road King Special, and an Electra Glide. Don't care for all the gee wiz electronics in the Street Glide and don't like the look of the Road Glide's fairing. As far as price goes, I think for the dollars, you get a lot more for your money in a Road King just on getting the better and bigger saddlebags. Price, there's an old saying about price, "Cheap ain't good, and good ain't cheap."

Something to consider is your height and weight(of you, passenger & gear). When I first started looking for a bigger bike, I really wanted the Heritage but also considered the Road King. I'm 6'3, 34" inseam and was 230ish lbs at the time + passenger + gear. Unfortunately, the weight limit on the Heritage along with the shorter frame pretty much took it our of the running. So, of course, I started eyeballing the Road King. A couple of bikes down was an Ultra Classic (3 years old with 20k ish miles). I went with that one over the Road King since I fit on it better, max weight limit was good and I can remove the tour pak if I/when want...oh and it was cheaper. Anyway, just thought I'd mention this as it wasn't something I took into account until I test rode and was ready to sign the paper...which came to a screeching halt for a few more weeks. Ride Safe!

This is the sleeper Harley that more people should try out. I’m a larger guy, this is more comfortable than a street glide. It’s an oddly romantic bike to ride, quick and nimble. Nice commentary -- I agree on the "you haven't ridden a Harley in the last twenty years, if..." comment. I had a `96 Evo-Ultra that I put 100K+ miles on; the only on-the-road issue I ever had was a malfunctioning fuel petcock (reversed the diaphragm and rode on home...). Currently have an `08 Softail Anniversary and like it better than the Ultra (feels lighter and the center of gravity seems noticeably lower -- all good for a geriatric rider), but I've been riding since the `60s and have never (ever) paid more than $10K for a bike -- there are just too many lightly used machines out there for cheapskates' like me...

I totally agree that this is a state of the art cruiser and for me even more. I ride a ´22 Heritage in vivid black and black finish. Of course this is a beautiful looking bike, in my eyes also the best that Harley has at this time and with the great low speed moveability, it was like "fell in love-engaged-married" at once when i first drove it. Normally i dont ride plus2hrs at a time but i tried it and i had no complains with my back, shoulders, arms etc. so this makes a great touring bike for me too. (no changed bars or seat) The pirce level is always the big subject when it comes down to HD and i do think that they are over priced. But thats just the way things are and if you want to ride one, you have to pay... Yeah the Heritage is a great cruiser bike which looks good and easy to ride 🏍️👍

I saw a custom 1996 Heritage that had two into one exhaust, hard bags, Street Glide front fork, Street Glide rims. That was a sweet ride. The bags on the Heritage could be bigger, they should have came with the Road King Classic bags.

Beautiful bike. I considered one but landed on an R18 Classic due to price and have no complaints but the Heritage would have been a great choice regardless.
@jackvanderpool4288 Жыл бұрын
Heritage definitely should look like a Heritage. You have to have spokes and chrome. I had a 2009. Best bike I have had, and I have had a lot. I just wish it had the traditional looking bags and seat still. The black studs look terrible in my opinion.
@motorman857 Жыл бұрын
I agree. They should have just made the bags from the 2017 Heritage, leather covered hard bags like the Road King Classic.
@westcoast3595 Жыл бұрын
@@motorman857 The bags on heritage springer were also a very nice leather bag.

Studs at all look horrible. Get rid of the studs, skulls, and tassels just tacky looking garbage. Smooth simple leather.

I was looking at those bikes because I like the style. But my dealer told me that it wouldn't be up for the weight of me and my wife and our gear for road trips. I got the Electra Glide Standard instead and I have since added a tour pack, as well as some extra crash protection and lower leg fairings. I'm definitely not sorry for that. But I will always like the style of the heritage (and deluxe)
@kennyh3443 Жыл бұрын
I disagree with what the dealer told you. I have a 2018 Heritage Softail Classic and my wife rides with me most of the time. She is comfortable on the bike, especially with a tour pack attached that has a back rest, upgraded passenger seat and half-moon foot pegs. I love my bike. The bike rides like a Road King when my wife is on the bike adding to the weight of the bike. I upgraded my 107 cubic inch engine to a stage II giving it more torque. No issues with torque or power with my wife on the back.

IMO, the Heritage with mags looks like something you would expect to see in a military museum, with this being attributable to the huge sidewalls. Oh, and it was 2020 when they had it slotted in with the touring bikes.

I had a street glide and subsequently traded it for a Sport Glide softail. Quite simply I prefer a lighter bike. The tourers are definitely more premium but I just wanted something easier to handle. Also living in the UK where there are so many speed cameras and need to keep to the speed limits the 107 is more than enough and don’t see a need for a 114. I’m sure it’s a different situation in the US with those big roads though.
@therealrobertbirchall Жыл бұрын
I live in the uk as well. I traded my 2021 107 street bob for a 2022 114 heritage, softail. The 114 Inc motor is a definite improvement, more low down torque means lower revs at motorway speeds and therefore less vibration and a smoother ride. Cubes means comfort.

I think if you compared the price of todays models compared to what they went for new 20-30 years ago they’d be pretty comparable, adjusted for inflation of course

The road king is NOT intimidating after about 3 min on it. I went from a Fatboy to the FLHR. That road king is so damn good. I’ll simp about the road king every day all day. The heritage would be my second pick for a non-faired bike. Those hard bags on the FLHR tho. They’re so damn big. I put a detachable chopped pack on mine and i legit go on shopping trips and fit stuff that one wouldn’t think would work. I use mine for commuting every day it’s above mid 20s for the low for the day (or ice snow or salt), trips of all lengths, running errands. It is FOR ME the perfect bike right now Sorry .. I told ya … I’ll start preaching about the FLHR any time it comes up

14:08 dealers definitely want to get rid of the previous year models around this time of the year. I just purchased a new 23 heritage classic last night. Sticker price was $26,000, got it for $19,000. One heck of a deal!
@sakygen7 ай бұрын
I preferred this over a road king. Thats because for the price of a road king you can get a Street Glide/Road Glide that has so much more to offer for me. I have a Hydra Glide revival which really is a heritage classic but it needed more torque so i did a stage 2 cam upgrade

I have a 2018 Heritage with stock seat and did a 3800 mile 6 day, solo trip. The bike did fine with all of my camping gear and a dry bag full of stuff on the back. This is my first Harley, have always loved the look and sound. Harley culture is a little different. It cracks me up when HD riders tell me I can’t tour on my Heritage, that I need a Road King or a Glide of some variety. Then I tell them about touring on a Husqvarna 701SM and riding that thing 700 miles in a single day… any bikes a touring bike if you have enough bungees and your @$$ can take it.

I had an Ultra and yes to big, and now after having both kinds of fairings I've decided fairings aren't for me..... I'm not big on windshields either but much better Traded my ultra in for Kawasaki Versus 1000 LT SE(this is the only 22 version they make) much better....seat sucks, before next ride it needs to be fixed It also has a fairing, but I don't count it simply cause it's small, the body works is just big enough to keep rain and spray off my shins I've also considered putting bags on my Wide Glide, I've already got luggage rack and bags to go on it, but saddlebags would be good to have With signature model seat the WG is far more comfortable than the kaw, except in rain, My night rod could actually be turned into a nice tour bike, it is an extremely comfortable ride......probably get tickets in every state I believe Harley makes a similar, probably better, version of the kaw.

Love my blacked out heritage. I wish it had spoke wheels though they give a little more road feel than cast wheels and can don't crack. If you hit a pot hole hard, they can also be trued up if necessary.

I have a 20 Lowrider S with the 131 and a stock 22 Heritage. After 2 years of living with the 131 I can tell you it is a waste of money. If I were to do anything with the Heritage it would be a good torque cam and tuner. My 2 cents worth.
