Today we're reviewing the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 2400, 3400 and 4400. This is largely going to be applicable to the similar Junction and Windrider models too. Both Ben and Meg's have used a version of this pack, for hundreds of miles combined, in wind, rain, snow and sunshine on trips from 1 to 5 days.
In ultralight backpacking, fastpacking and bikepacking it's a fine balance between cutting and keeping grams for comfort. Aside from your tent, your pack is one of the quickest and easiest ways to lose weight quickly to keep you going further for longer. But does cutting down on weight also cut down on comfort? We cover this and more in our in-depth review of the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest.
In this video, we break down the positives, negatives and technical features that make this pack worth the price tag.
As always, we buy and test all of our own kit, none of it is gifted, bringing you an honest opinion of the pros and cons of this pack from HMG. We put Southwest 3400 and 2400 through their paces all over the UK, in the best and worst of mountain, moor and forest conditions. To give you a comprehensive overview, we took it fast packing, hiking and wild camping to test it's durability in wind, rain, heat and everything in between.
