I, too, recently purchased a Luxman L-590 AxII and after two months break-in at 14 hours/day. It came alive. I tried many speakers at home, including the 84 dB Magico A1, Sonus Faber Electa Amator, and Dynaudio Special Heritage and the Luxy drove them all without strain. However, the Bowers and Wilkins 805 D3 was absolutely spellbinding in my medium sized room. I still haven’t been able to turn them off. Source? Linn LP-12, Ittok arm and Troika cartridge, recently refreshed.

@@metastaticmince2386 Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the Dynaudio Special was surprisingly boomy, even placed well out into the room. Though the Sonus Faber was pleasingly, fatteningly rich (another speaker with a very large rear port like the Dynaudio), the Magico and Bowers and Wilkins were bang-on neutral. However, the Magico seemed restrained, probably due to its very low efficiency.

The m900u/preamp combo is the better system. More dynamic, more ambiance and less dry than the 509ax mk2. The m900u/preamp combo sounds very natural, especially in the midrange region.

I've purchased a Cardas Bi-wire speaker cable 20 years go that was incorrectly terminated by the factory. Oddly enough with my amp at the time, it caused a bit of distortion but at the dealer it blew fuses on most of his amps.

What a good place to spend this lockdown , 3 months ago sold my passlab. XA 160.8 ( loves the amp but wanted to try something new) , my dealer let me borrow 590 mk2( brother I think you might have to update comment you put 509 mk2) . Plugged to focal sopra 2 it was one of the most musical and relaxing experience, such a sweet and sexy sound ( almost like a tube like ) . Long story short ended up with 900u :) . Now I need your help .... I’m cutently feeding it directly from chord Dave , so I’m thinking following 1. Get matching 900 preamp . 2 get audio research ref 6. Maybe you’ll do another video comparing 2 different Pre amps ? . For speakers I’m using ML ESl 15a ... every time you upload video I know it’s gonna be good . Enjoy new toys :) I’m jealous....

I had it worse problem when I tried to pair my Cardas Clear speaker cables with my previously owned Mephisto Stereo amp. It just blew the fuse of the amp every time. My dealer was in a panic & luckily, with a different speaker cable, all was good. Tried a lesser Cardas speaker cable (I think it was the Golden Cross), same problem. So, the conclusion was that Cardas & Gryphon are not compatible. My dealer also wrote to both manufacturers but did not get any response from them on this matter.

Great amp and speakers, but glad you swapped the dCS Vivaldi for MSB Reference dac. As the digital glare is quite audible in the treble hear, and Wilson does not hide it.

the 900u clip sounded bright....the 590ax sounded warmer but less dynamic...just bought the 509x maybe i should get this one...

hector alvarez I’ve listened to 509 590 and 900 .. 509 was very clear , detailed and dynamic, but was bit too analytical to me , 590 was pure “ spa “ like experience ,, went with 900 , I think if you feed it with tube amp it will get you best of both ,, but I don’t have any preamp at this point

David Kvirikadze agree the pre pro is expensive option in the 900 series but lifetime purchase...Jay also showed that dac direct is alright as a temp substitute

Wow! The 509ax seems miles ahead with this track. And as you said, it also apparently has complete control over the Wilson's woofers... One quick query- why have the Focals exited stage left and not the Sasha DAWs? I thought this was a knockout competition! It’s actually a L-590axII, the yellow Meters give it away, I know because I just bought the last one in town from a local dealer. I’ve had lots of amps over the years and yes Autoformer McIntosh units, this Luxman is the real deal. Some say a future classic, I have to agree, worth every penny in my books. 😎

Interesting. I've got the integrated - 590AX2 - into 93dB 15" Tannoys. It sounds sublime. But, a word of caution, the demo doesn't sound to me like it was level matched (but may have been). Everything just sounded louder through the pre/power. Since I don't know those speakers in real life, it's a bit of a fool's errand to try to judge the relative merits of two top amps into fancy speakers through the compressed audio of KZbin and then through my computer's speakers. Plus, I find it difficult with such videos to do this objectively since you also record the influence of the room (which makes it sound a bit more lively). But good to see one of the few comparisons between the Luxman amps out there on the web.

Okay def have to listen multiple times...so my guess is this is the class a 590ax Mk II integrated is the punchy one and m900u is the sweet one...based on your later expressed scale of amps. Mmmm... you prove my love of my PassLabs XA25...class a wins. I’m also tempted by the m900, I heard the m700 two weeks ago, ok but nothing special. But the c900/m900 combo is enticing but expensive. And I’m currently cursed by my wife for purchasing a pair of PMC MB2SE late last year. She loves the sound not the looks. But I’m getting grilled...or roasted and stir fried, as we just moved into our new home 😉😎

Hey Jay how about the 2 top preamps (luxman c -900 & the AR Reference 6SE ) on most people list including mine shootout please? Here is my tips for getting more views for your channel : list the make and model for your video on the title and put details in the descriptions , for the Tags section put on many well known manufacturers,models of Hi-Fi gear as you can . Wow... what a combo. Lovely soft leading and trailing edges yet clear and articulate. Solid bass. Lovely. U-series. Ax series doesn’t have the same full air but sure it’s crisper mid range. I’d take the pre/pro.

Incompatibility loudspeakercable with electronics means the cable is badly designed concerning inductance, capacity and resistance. When this is the case even lampcord will sound better.

I also heard the 590 with the Dynaudio Heritage and the result is extraordinary.....rien of boomy ...combined with LUMIN T2 and Robin hood Audioquest speaker cable. The room is important ...Must clear the speaker from the back wall.

LMAO... my man... all the power to you for buying the components you are buying... but Luxman is not best value for the money. For value for the money, try buying a Benchmark, a quality Yamaha, Denon, Technics, Marantz or Onkyo. You will get 90% of the sound of anything you have. You are paying a premium for "the best". Like you pay one million for a Ferrari, but you can go and buy a Corvette for $100K which will give it a run for it's money. IMHO, you are getting hosed for the cash, but like you said, it is a premium part.
