I bought one of these and it works better than all the other stud finders I already had in my tool box

How can it be a stud finder if it doesn't beep when you put it on your arm?

haha.... well played

Any strong rear earth magnetic will work. As the Apple charger showed, but you have to run them slowly over the wall to allow them to catch the nail or screws. But as he was just swinging the charger along the wall of course it could not work. Ps. Don’t get to strong of a magnet or to thin of one. To strong and you could actually rip a nail out. To thin and have fun getting it off the wall.

I’d love to see how strong of a magnet it would take to rip a nail out…

I’ve got I nice powerful magnet. I keep it wrapped in a sock for easy removal from metals. Still thinking of getting this thing for the built in level.

Great information! I too have trouble finding studs consistently. I'm going to try a rare earth magnet glued to a light piece of plastic or wood

Great idea, I thought about using hard drive magnets as well.

Nice little tool to have. I do have to say that I find it mildly humorous that someone who wears a $500 Apple watch would be worried about wasting $10 on a stud finder.

There’s a lot of people out there that don’t know which of the hammer does what.

What about lathe and plaster walls?
@DoItYourselfDad11 ай бұрын
I’ve had limited success with lath and plaster using a magnet. The fasteners on the lath are usually pretty deep in the plaster.

over here in the UK we call them 'neodymium' magnets,i purchased a set from ebay for just this purpose as most house builds here have wodden stud not metal,also the next stud along should be 600mm or around about 16' give or take,has worked out for me so far,and of course these magnets are easy to store just put them on any piece of metal you have available i use my kitchen unit frame which is metal,just be careful around electronics like mobile phones

We call them neodymium as well, “rare earth” and “neodymium” are somewhat interchangeable.

I have 3 of them and when I see them I buy 1 more lol, its one of those things thats simple, great, cheap, and because of those things will most likely quit being sold

In Australia, nails are only in top/bottom plates, noggins and around the edge of the plaster sheets so magnet type finders would be useless here

So you don’t fasten the drywall to any vertical studs within the 4ft width of the drywall?

I’m pretty sure a strong magnet made in China works just as well as one made in the U.S. but go ahead and spend more.
@peterdement11 ай бұрын
It is a fastner finder NOT a stud finder. Its precision relies on the installer hitting the fastner somewhere within the stud width.

There’s always one in every comment section…. Congratulations on explaining something that was already explained in the video. Do you go around telling people it’s technically not a xerox it’s a copy? Do you think you get more alpha male point by mansplaining to other men? lol…
