Toyota hybrids aren't the issue. It's the push from ultra reliable NA engines to turbocharged ones. Turbo engines objectively just don't last as long. Especially in trucks and SUVs.

Oddly enough, I was just on Consumer Reports and was shocked to see the Trail Blazer given a 96/100 in reliability. However, for some strange reason Customer Satisfaction was only 1/5. I am looking at a Subaru Crosstrek or Forester as my 2015 Ford Escape has been one level below a nightmare.

I completely agree. The extended warranty on my Colorado Z-71 was set to expire soon. It never shifted correctly it's entire life, and I am sure it was just hanging on until the warranty was over. I just traded it in on a Nissan Frontier. I'll miss the 30MPG my duramax got, but not the constant trips to the dealer to fix all the problems I've had with the truck. It only had 47K miles when I traded it in, and it had more problems in that time than my 200k VW TDi has had it's entire life.

Re: the bZ4X, it isn't just the limited range and slow charging that limit it's ability to drive longer distances. Anyone patient enough to give it a try on a road trip will potentially discover the cap on fast charging per 24 hours. Prior to a major update that they announced in the US at the end of July, it could only be fast charged for 2 cycles from 10-80%. On the slower AWD, that meant even with starting at 100%, it can go about 400 miles at freeway speeds before throttling fast charging to 13 kW or slower. This is a 24 hour restriction, so even if you split a drive to be afternoon and evening one day, and morning to afternoon the next day, that throttle will still be in effect until 24 hours after that first fast charge. This restriction is not explicitly listed in the manual, and is only buried in a footnote in the online FAQ. With a dealership installed update, that bumps the limit up to 3.8 cycles, which increases that limit to around 620 miles. This effectively means that I would be more able to do a 850 mile drive from my home to my parents in less time in a Chevy Bolt than a bZ4X, for half as much money. This restriction is ostensibly to extend battery longevity, but the warrantee on the battery is no better on the Toyota than any other EV on the market.

@surferdude44878 ай бұрын
@@JeffKubel The truth is that charging no higher than 80% with decent thermal management is no harder on the battery than trickle charging at home. The nice thing about the Chevy and Buick is at least it’s not a classic rebadge… they changed it up. The people wanting the Buick won’t have kids and something sleeper. Honda’s Prelude looks beautiful. I hope they do build it. The Santa Fe design does look really good. I just can’t get passed their engine and reliability issues. I don’t agree about some cars needing AWD. AWD takes away gas mileage and adds complexity. I live in the Midwest and as much as I love my AWD RDX, it’s not always something that’s required. For an entry level car I think it’s totally fine not having it. Lastly shocked that there’s no mention of the Integra Type S. Easily one of the best cars this year.

I agree w Nathan, Toyota keeping the reg highlander w a 3rd row is redundant. i guess theres a market for small 3 row suvs bc kia is keeping their 3rd row in the sorrento and hyundai is putting one BACK in the santa fe for some reason. they really should offer a 2row xrt and give it some OR chops to compete w the passport ts. perhaps toyota should ditch the 3rd row as well and turn the HL into a BEV? i kinda prefer the jeep 4xe gc/th over the landcruiser bc they put the battery underneath, albeit only 17kw and poss more cargo room than a landcruiser. jeep 4xe cost more so they need to lose some features and make it competitive w LC. well see who comes out on top with all these new fangled turbo hybrids. toyota not putting a v6 in the next 4runner is unfortunate. i think they will lose sales but a turbo 4 should be peppier than the old v6 just like the new tacoma is faster. the hybrid and 3rd row should be optional in the sequoia as well. the rear cargo space is terrible.

I disagree with the HRV review. Now the size being different , and space being different, going from a 2017 to a 2024 is night and day. The 2.0 motor has more guts then the 1.8 , the sport mode works better, the options are much better as well, grated our machine is a NAVI the highest trim level , however the only thing I hold against our machine is the lack of powered seats.
@aaronbehindbars9 ай бұрын
The new HR-V is more refined with a nicer looking interior, but that's it. Honda could have made the larger overall size translate to a bier i terior, but they missed an oppprtunity there. Also, it needs more power and better fuel economy. As much as I like the simplicity of NA engines, Honda should have used the 1.6T in the higher trim Civics to achieve both. A hybrid version could also achieve those objectives.

Its not Toyota being smarter or more generous with the pricing. It would be like Jeep advertising the new 'Cherokee' as the 'Grand Cherokee', with the lower Cherokee price (and only offering the 'real' Grand Cherokee in other markets). You are not getting a good price, you are just getting the lower grade product with an appropriate price.
