Xiaomi has never claimed that their upcoming car model can achieve a range of 1200 km. If you've watched their launch event, they only mentioned that their platform theoretically allows for a maximum battery capacity of 150 kWh, which is equivalent to a 1200 km range. However, this 1200 km figure is purely hypothetical. Specifically for the Su7 model, it currently offers versions with a 73.6 kWh battery providing a range of 668 km and a 101 kWh battery offering an 800 km range. Moreover, these are figures for the single-motor version; if it's the dual-motor version, the range would be reduced to 628 km and 750 km. Regarding the motor, the mentioned 35,000 RPM is only a peak value obtained in a lab setting without considering durability, and it has never been a focal point of Xiaomi's promotion. For the upcoming car models, Xiaomi provides options with 27,200 RPM, 578 PS (referred to as v8s, expected to launch in 2025), and 21,000 RPM, 374 PS (referred to as v6s, expected to launch this year). These figures sound much more reasonable. I bet they haven't actually watched Xiaomi's launch event or reviewed official posters and content. Instead, they seem to rely on exaggerated rumors for attention. If you have watched the event, you wouldn't confuse these imaginary data with production cars; it's quite funny. The Su7 has already been approved by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). MIIT approval is a stringent criterion in China, and all approved models inevitably go into production because it signifies passing range tests, collision tests, compliance with emission regulations, and high costs-things that concept cars don't need to bother with. Xiaomi Su7's launch in 2024 is a 100% certainty. If you're genuinely interested in Chinese EVs and not just venting on KZbin, I recommend following a KZbinr called "Telescope望远镜" He provides a lot of genuine information about cutting-edge Chinese EVs, caters to international audiences by explaining in English, and emphasizes key points with international cognitive differences.

Either get some knowledge about the automotive space before you talk about it, or don't bring it up at all on the podcast. The quasi-car talk is half hearted at best and frustratingly bad at worst. Also, daily reminder for Marques that Taycan rhymes with Icon. Its literally on Porsche's own KZbin.

Xiaomi SU7’s range is CLTC number and times that by 0.7 you will get EPA number. So it’s not 500mi but 350mi-ish for 74kWh which is doable with structural battery / CTB tech. Zeekr 007 has similar spec - 75kWh battery, ~340 converted EPA mi, starting price of $29k and is ALREADY SHIPPING. So yeah, it’s like 99% coming out but spec isn’t as ridiculous as you guys think it is.

Clarify: the 750 mi is for the to-be-released 150kwh from CATL (NIO already uses that), and the 500 mi one is the 101kwh that they are shipping this year. There would be a base version as well for ~75kwh. All those numbers are Chinese CLTC based numbers, which would be 15% higher than EAP or WLTP used in EU or US. So when they say 500 mi, they mean 420 mi in EAP in the US. (China has a different mix of highway and local). The thing is the price, the current consensus is $30k for 75kwh one, $35K for 100kwh one. no where near $55k, it's impossible to sell that price in China with the segment of customers they are targeting. The charging is legit as there are already car companies in China (Li auto) with the actual video showing 520kw peak charging for more than 7 minutes, but yeah you need specialized super charging stations as regulars are still 350 or 250kw. Either way, way more choices in China compared to US where the only viable option is Tesla and they haven't really refreshed for 4 years.

If you're wondering about the crawfish fact, here's something to solve your confusion. When it says double the size, It probably means double in volume. Which means approximately cube root of 2 (or 1.26 ) times the original length. Because the length is directly proportional to the cube root of volume. So a 1cm crawfish could grow to 40cm by calculation.

The reason why the range looks very long is probably xiaomi uses China’s CLTC standard for testing, which tends to have higher numbers than epa. For example, on Tesla China’s website, the model s shown in the podcast has 715km/444 mi CLTC range instead of 405 in EPA

Hey guys, one hint regarding the range of Chinese EV. Their range is measured using the NEDC (a test procedure). This procedure has a very low average speed and only requires very weak acceleration. Therefore the values for the electric consumption (and the resulting range) are really good. If you‘d test any European or American EV with this test cycle, the range based on that test cycle would also be much higher than the EPA range. To sum it up, if a EV is announced in China for the Chinese market, don’t compare that range figure to the EPA ranges you are used to, since they are based on to completely different test procedures. It would be like comparing you phones battery life in a processor benchmark test to the phones battery life playing on-device 30 fps video.

the "doubling" is probably doubling mass/volume. Any shape (if remaining to scale) only needs to grow about 26% in length in order to double in volume (a 1x1x1 cube has a volume of 1, whereas 1.26x1.26x1.26 is ~2). SO, that means if you multiply your length by 32.5, your volume will multiply by a bit over 34,000. Babies only around 3-5 mm after the larvae stage, so that means you only need to get to a length of 10-16 cm to be 34,000x bigger in total volume

Apteras trick is efficency. If your car uses very little energy in total, you can make the battery small and light and still achieve range. And because the battery pack is so small, the solar panels can actually give you 40 Miles a day of range just from parking in the sun. That is more than the average person in the US drives a day. All of that on 100% free energy from the sun. And you can still plug it in if you want to. It's a brilliant vehicle concept if you think about it.

If the SU7 has slow acceleration I think it could reach 500 miles of range but it would be similar to a Model 3 driven gently.

Aptera is supposedly legally classified as an "autocycle". Supposedly that gives it all the benefits of a motorcycle (reduced insurance cost, only a license plate in the rear, etc.) but none of the drawbacks (required to wear a helmet, safety?, etc.) And on the topic of shipping, at least they have production intent builds rolling off the line, with volume manufacturing of their "BinC" (Body in Carbon).
@kevinscott864210 ай бұрын
Soon. They’re in the process of building the production-intent vehicles, which will be used for validation and testing over the next few months. At this point, there’s not much doubt they’ll make it to production, likely hitting the market later this year. To be clear, though it’s technically classified as an autocycle, the Aptera will for all intents and purposes function as a car. A two seater car with an exceptionally large cargo area in the back. I wish one of you guys watched the Xiaomi SU7 launch, they never said it will have a 1200km range. I think you should watch part of the launch if you can't watch all of it. This conversation was like just shooting in the water hoping to hit some fish.

Xiaomi claims the range figures based on the China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). CLTC Testing is usually more optimistic than the EPA and WLTP tests that are used in the US and Europe, respectively. This means that the CLTC range figures are often higher than the real-world range, As a rule of thumb, anticipate approximately 10-25% less range in real-world driving compared to CLTC figures.

Loved visual references being used! I don't know if that was Mariah or just a general change, but was lovely to be able to see what was being talked about.

I have a 12” iPad Pro, iPhone 15” Pro Max, Samsung Flip4, M3 MacBook Pro, AMD Threadripper 32 Core Workstation, and a ton of other smart devices, and I think Tesla Software is on par with ALL of those. I do not understand this “Tesla has worse software ideology,” do these people not use Tesla’s regularly? Everything about the software in my Model X Plaid is top notch, error/glitch free, smooth, has most of the apps I would use in a car (except maybe Waze?), is fast, plays steam games, and integrates perfectly with the car hardware, iPhone app, and android app. I truely would love to hear them explain *exactly* what makes android or iOS better than Tesla’s OS. Very confusing.

Samsung could low-key one-up Google by having a bunch of new AI photo features process on device, since the latest pixels need to have the photos backed up to the cloud and connected to the Internet for some of their features

There's an odd reverb to Marques' voice this week. Edit: It's everyone! Just the most noticeable with Marques.

I’m guessing Adam and Ellis need to show Mariah the exact settings they tend to use, (assuming it’s something to do with the live setup and not post production or KZbin changing their audio compression)
