I think it’s going to put pressure on the grading companies. It’s too much risk for little return on a 10. Especially when cards you thought would gem and don’t. That takes almost $20 (cost of grading) per card off net profit of the total submission. For me personally, it’s completely turning me off to the idea of grading anymore.

Thats almost completely due to people wanting to double down on their gambling and grading just to chase a 10 rather than grading because they actually want a fair grade.

With Raw Cards you have a hope of a 10 and a huge profit - once it's graded....unless you break it, it's final.

Due to a missing auto in my archives hobby box I called Topps and talked to a rep to make sure I did things right to get a replacement. We then had a conversation about drops. How it was not fair for the little guy as sometimes it was sold out before you could get through checkout. He said they knew it was a problem and were trying to come up with a solution. I suggested a pre 10 minute sale where all you can buy is 1 box. Not 1 each type, no cases. He liked the idea and said he would bring it up at the next meeting. I'm tired of paying extra when all I want is A box.

Good call-out on Donruss Elite "color flood" tyle parallels looking a lot like PMGs. That's why I collect them, and the Dynagon cards from Chronicles, though they didn't have a '24 football product.

The one thing that I will say about downtowns, is that for someone like me (a collector on a budget) I can get jumbo downtowns of my favorite players for cheap. And they are nice for personal display! But, yes I get the watering down of a very cool insert/SSP.

I wholly share the love for Topps Pristine with TPott. 2002 Gold Pristine are one of my all time favorite looks. A really nice way to collect cheaply for singles as well.

I agree with you about the 2024 gilded version, but throughout the history of cards i haven't liked every design that has ever been produced. Some years are homeruns and some years are duds, that's just the way it is. Just pray they do better next year on design and dont screw up by adding more junk to the product. It was perfect in 2023 with no subsets and limited base to /99. But now i feel we will see them blow up the subsets and add more worthless parallels.

I think the fact that Wemby’s Prizm rookie is clearly in front of a black curtain stretching down to a visible wood floor was a huge miss by Panini in 2024 too. People are saying it’s already iconic… but it could have been so much better.

Downtown bothers me so bad. It's such shit. I have always loved kaboom and will continue to love it. Prizm and optic are meh but are inarguably Panini's steadiest sets

In order of personal preference for the major know case hits, I like: - Color Blast - Blank Slate - Kaboom - Downtowns I like them all, but Downtowns are at the bottom of the list for the ones that people go nutty over. I like many others that a lot of people don't like as much or don't know.

I honestly don’t like any of Topps designs. It all looks outdated or cheap tbh. The premium feeling of Panini products like Flawless, Immaculate, National Treasures is missing. Maybe when they get the NBA I’ll change my mind.

Downtowns and Kabooms are so over valued. It sad for people spending that kind of money on cards just like prizm Finites. It wont end well especially for collectors. Go back to true RPAs of original cards with numbers /99 and less.

Gilded looks atrocious in 2024 compared to the last 2 years. They went with a 70's funakadelic swirl type pattern. Doesn't really carry on the design language from prior years and looks like an ugly/confused design in general. Gilded should look classy, opulent. 2022 and 2023 Gilded look GREAT - two of my favorite sets!

As someone that is just getting back into the hobby after being away for many years, the amount of "childish" looking cards is a surprise. The amount of colors that are mixed with swirls and lines, etc., etc., look like a little child's design. Yes, baseball cards and other sporting cards are made for kids, but not in the way that so many of these cards look, and not at the prices they are selling for. Hearing many adults talk about how nice they are is actually really surprising. It's fine for Pokemon or similar cards but sports cards just don't seem to belong in that category. A lot of cards used to be plain and boring and then they started to become works of art and fun with different designs, but now a lot of them make you wonder who the "designers" are and where they are coming up with these ideas.

No it's not because we don't want to upset Fanatics. We're very honest about our opinions, for good or for bad, when it comes to that. I cared so little about that product that I honestly forgot about it lol. There were like 150+ products created last year across the three major sports...I can't cover all of it.
