Paris, nov 4th 2023 I have been listening your interesting communication about cancer in dogs and the various recommanded / forbidden foods. In the forbidden foods, you name grappes. I heard the same in France and I am totally astonished. As a child, I spent all my school vacations in Bourgogne. Me and my dog used to bloat ourselves with grappes, directly on the cèpe de vigne (from the branches of the wine) and neither me nor the dog ever got sick. So ???? ? My dog was a Spanish spaniel who lived 13 years.

We now know that tartaric acid, which is found in high concentrations in grapes, is the issue. The levels vary in different varietals, and at least one veterinarian I know, like you, remembers dogs eating grapes years ago with no issue. This is Molly, and my dogs in CT always ate wild grapes, right alongside me, as well. Perhaps the levels of tartaric acid have changed over the years, but for sure, poisoning is occurring with both grapes and raisins. www.aaha.org/publications/newstat/articles/2021-04/what-causes-grape-toxicity-in-dogs-playdough-might-have-led-to-a-breakthrough/

Great informative conversation. I do most of this already, and my dogs truly love cruciferous vegetables. I never tried the Sardines because I thought they were to salty for dogs, and had read something concerning salt water fish for dogs. I think I'll read up on that as it would be a great source other than Flax, for Omega 3s. Thank you Molly Jacobson and Dr. Susan Recker.

@@Ida-Adriana YES -- there are so many things that can help, some more than others. Tons of research -- and some actually in dogs -- about turkey tail, we've been recommending it since 2007. www.dogcancer.com/articles/supplements/turkey-tail-mushroom-for-dogs/ Here's our article on fenbendazole, which is definitely a potential chemo drug because it works the same way that several chemo agents currently used do ... although at the doses needed to treat cancer, it probably has just as many side effects, so it would be another tool, but not necessarily the "best" agent. We'll see! www.dogcancer.com/articles/drugs/fenbendazole-for-dogs/ CBD is an amazing comfort tool and has some mild anti-cancer effects: www.dogcancer.com/articles/supplements/cbd-for-dogs-with-cancer/

Is white rice good for your dog?
@DogCancer
@DogCancer 8 ай бұрын
White rice plus either boiled chicken or boiled hamburger is often used as a "bland diet" if a dog has been having really tough digestive issues like diarrhea, vomiting, or nausea. The reason it's used is because white rice is very easy to digest, and so it provides quick nutrition that doesn't upset the stomach too much. This is good for the short term, or for long term diets if your veterinarian recommends it. However, in general, brown rice is a better choice for dogs with cancer. The starches in brown rice are very complex and take a longer time to break down, so they don't tend to spike blood sugar the way white rice can. Brown rice also has some distinct anti-cancer benefits! www.dogcancer.com/articles/diet-and-lifestyle/brown-rice-for-dogs/

Very true, but every little bit we do in the right direction helps, right? As long as glyphosate use is allowed in the U.S., we must do what we can to avoid it, and perhaps just as important for the future, let retailers and manufacturers and legislators know why we are making the choices we are making.
