I have, over the years found some wonderful treasures at Home Goods, but by far the best was meeting one of my best friends in the returns line. I was new to the area, and recognized a very distinctive South African accent, I asked if she was South African and she was so surprised that I guessed right. Of course I am South African too😊 She literally was carrying her two girls while trying to do a return, but she was so excited and didn’t want to miss the chance of connecting so wrote down her number on a receipt, yes South African’s always make a plan, and the acrobatics required to do this was so impressive that the decision was made there to definitely call. And so began a beautiful friendship and our both girls are now almost 15!!! That was 12 years ago and every time I walk into a Home Goods I smile because it’s a memory I love revisiting. Sometimes you find a beautiful vase, or a painting, or a lovely book, and sometimes you find a beautiful friend. You just never know with TJ Maxx and Home Goods❤

Great advice in this video, Julie! Thank you! I agree that HomeGoods is a love-hate situation. I often fall in love with something there only to find it chipped (like a beautiful marble piece) or missing it’s pair (like those single marble lamps you found). And you must buy something when you see it even if you’re not sure because it won’t be there tomorrow! But it’s the fun of the treasure hunt and the thrill of that one perfect find that keeps us addicted and coming back again and again, isn’t it? Your baby is adorable!

My most recent HomeGoods score was a dupe of CB2’s snow leopard faux fur throw that retails for $100 and has been on backorder for months. Found it at my local HomeGoods (same size too) for $24.99 and it’s so luxurious! Just a side note…The duvet inserts at HomeGoods are such a steal also! Recently bought a Ralph Lauren king size for less than $100! It’s so fun outfitting a home in high-end items without paying a high-end price tag! Thanks for helping us know what to look for and how to avoid the poor quality so we can get the most for our money at HomeGoods and beyond! This truly is video gold! More of these please…

HG is my favorite store because it has decor for everyone’s taste, not everyone wants a boring house with neutral decor, others like a bit of a color, coziness… etc and the prices are awesome compared to other stores like At Home, Kirklands etc

I love this store. I do have to be careful not to just fill up the cart, it’s easy to buy too much stuff there. Also, I recently learned to check everything carefully, as I bought a large ceramic plant pot, that actually had kiln cracks baked in. Flawed. If I put a plant in it and water it, it will break on the bottom. Some stuff is “reject” quality, and they always seem to be looking for store staff (where I live) so don’t count on the employees sorting out the damaged goods before stocking them on the sales floor.

I disagree about the Talavera pots. Living in the southwest and having Spanish and Mexican heritage I feel that Talavera is a piece of art and adding a plant makes it even more beautiful. A bario garden would not be the same without at least one Talavera pot.

Homegoods is definitely hit or miss. Your video said to skip the glassware but I found 8 Waterford rock glasses and 4 stemless wine glasses in the past. A couple of different patterns but I was ok w that. Also love the throw pillows, cutting boards and basket sections.

If you’re ok with the mix then yes, I love the stemware. I’m clumsy though and have been known to break a few that were hard to replace 😩

I got the floor lamp version of those two lamps you got and had to return it because of a problem with the base, but I can tell you that those lamp shades are completely opaque which gives quite a different effect in terms of lighting. I was wondering if those lamps worked out for you. I agree with the person who wrote that your Homegoods is much nicer than mine...your clearance section was nicer than the entire store here. One thing I look for there is wood trays. Their bench game is always strong...I own two benches from there.

I had great luck with mirrors, including a mirror top coffee table. Also got a swing chair with base. Hard for me to pick one item that was the best score. One thing is for sure, they were large finds that I needed help to haul them home 😄

I corral them in this manner because I need to see them laid out, just as they would be on a large sofa/ sectional. You should always wash textiles in and out of packaging no matter where you purchase them from brand new. If the workers don’t restrict this practice and even assist me, it’s more common than you think.

Hi Julie I have come to enjoy a visit to this store and also home source. I usually go to one and then the other right after. I compare prices bc they have the same goods sometimes. But I have never seen a rug I like there bc they all look the same to me. My lifestyle demanded high pattern darker colored rugs. So I have many bokhara rugs in my home in blue mauve and of course the classic red! I had to go to ABC carpet for those. I love wool rugs but find the blends are better as runners for stairs. For stairs I get commercial strength and they don’t have to be high pattern but must be dark. The rest of the house can be lighter paint upholstery with slip covers etc. But i also prefer natural fabrics for my furniture. I love cotton and linens and wool and prefer high pattern on the upholstery too. As for that finger statue you gave a thumbs down to I would use that as an interesting jewelry holder. But I would not buy it. Nice to see you out there again. I had fun shopping too! 🤗🥰

Julie, my carpet cleaner guy told me to buy area rugs that are synthetic because they are easy to clean? I have a Airbnb rental and I need to have rugs cleaned often because we allow pets. He did tell me to avoid cotton rugs at all costs

You will toss out the synthetic area rugs once they’re completely soiled, they never retain their lushness and silky appearance- that’s a guarantee Kara. Mold, mildew, pet stains, etc do not wash out. But what you’re saving on synthetic vs. wool (for instance) may account for how you’re specifying. Synthetic carpet- 👍, super easy to clean and most often antimicrobial. Synthetic area rugs 👎. It’s the backing that makes all the difference.
