Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is the second instalment in the live action transformers franchise, released in 2009 and based on a script that suffered from the writing strikes. As such, there is a heavy dose of both great and terrible decisions in this movie, with the deaths of two of the main characters, Optimus Prime and The Fallen, being so drastically different in quality that I had to make a video on it

Over the years, the criticisms and flaws of this film have become more and more transparent to me, and they’ve actually made me like it even more. This movie is the perfect blend of badass fights, cool characters, and a hilarious story that makes for an overall very enjoyable experience

Spot on, the fallen never really made sense in his own film. He tells Megatron only a prime can defeat him yet, Megatron killed Optimus, so that would make Megatron stronger than the fallen as he did the one thing the fallen couldn't do. I never understood why Megatron followed that goof. Decepticons always betray one another, if anything it would've made more sense if Optimus and Megatron teamed up to fight the fallen and struggled, showcasing the fallen as an absolute threat to both bots and cons. So let's say Megatron comes back is promised to rule earth in exchange for helping the fallen and then is tricked as the fallen wants to destroy the sun. Megatron and Optimus fight the fallen and Optimus uses the matrix against the fallen which would've been his true weakness as it is the collective energy of his brothers and just like in the first film they place the macguffin into the enemies chest and call it a day. Easy peasy. They f#&% up, but yes I agree it's not the worst thing ever seen by human eyes. It has bright and dark spots and is ok for it. 😏👍

The "Megatron can defeat Optimus but The Fallen can't" would make more sense if it relied on something other than just brute strength/punching If Optimus, being a prime, had some sort of unique ability that could rival The Fallen's teleportation/telekinesis, then it would make sense. Optimus would be nullifying the advantages the Fallen has over other Cybertronians, and so needs Megatron to eliminate him so he has no rival However at the end of the day Optimus just shoots and punches him and there's nothing uniquely special about his death that any other autobot couldn't do themselves

Megatron and Optimus teaming up to fight the Fallen was the original ending and made its way to the tie-in video game, but for some reason it was changed

TBF Megatron didnt beat Optimus, he just sneaky killed him + it was 1v3. It was clear through whole movie Megatron is much weaker than Optimus

While I hate how the fallen was dispatched so easily I love how prime dispatched him so easily. Perhaps the fight should have been extended somewhere in the middle to then lead up to the deserved climax of the fight via the cool scene we got. Bay did say he wishes for the scene to be longer

It is a real shame that The Fallen, who is arguably the most important villain in the franchise, got done extremely dirty in his movie. However, despite him barely having any scenes and how he goes down pathetically easy, he is still my favourite Transformer in the franchise. I adore his design, and his voice is awesomely evil (that's Tony Todd for you). I also love the very few times we see him outside of the final 'battle'. His talk with Megatron on the Nemesis is cool, him saying "Revenge... is mine." goes hard, and the sequence of him activating the Star Harvester, proclaiming "Now, I claim your SUN!", and then using his telekinesis powers on the troops surrounding the pyramid is unironically one of my favourite action scenes in film (These films do not miss when it comes to sound design). Fortunately, since I own the Studio Series toy of The Fallen, I have the power to give him the battles and stories he deserves. Toys are a beautiful thing.

The whole point of this movie is how The Fallen is the biggest threat of the Deceptions. They called him "The Ultimate Deception". However, he does nothing in the film. The characters are always telling you how strong it is but it is never shown in the film. The only two times in all the entire film that we see him in action is defeated by his brothers (I don't know how he was the strongest Prime if his brothers defeated him and stole the Matrix from him). The other scene when we see him gets destroyed and is killed so easily by Optimus. He has no presence, literally appears only 5 minutes in the entire movie being he the main enemy of the film. Also, it doesn't make any sense how easily is killed by Prime. At least he should have fought an equal fight against Optimus but he can't do anything against him, being killed on a incredibly easy way being stabbed by his own spear. And how can that happen on the first place? The Megatron of the first movie could have easily defeated Optimus of it wasn't by Sam and the humans, how "the strongest Decepticon ever, the Ultimate Decepticon" is not able to face him. The movie also contradicts itself: it is established that "only a Prime can kill him" but it's easily killed by Optimus with the pieces from Jetfire, who's not a Prime. The Revival Optimus couldn't had defeated him without Jetfire's pieces so this bring us to two possible explanations: The Fallen is not as strong as the movie told us or it's just a terrible script. It would have made more sense of all the seven primes join Optimus to defeat The Fallen as it's established and not Jetfire, who's not even a Prime. What a waste of potential for The Fallen, honestly.

Optimus was timid in the final fight in the city because he didn’t want to kill Megatron. Besides a revived Optimus the those upgrades and the power of the Matrix is much stronger. The Fallen himself knew that he couldn’t defeat Optimus

He did want to kill Megatron, he was actively attacking him and trying to bring him down. Megatron was just stronger. And the matrix doesn't make Optimus stronger it just makes him nearly invincible.

One thing I would like to add on top of this is that Fallen was afraid of Optimus even before he got the Matrix and merged with Jetfire. The movie sets up that there's something unique to Optimus that Fallen fears, yet this is never brought up or used by the end of the film

@TheRealLoomar Actually, his brothers confined him to that chair when they defeated him. He still has the scars from the battle. Which shows he didn't heal and has been stuck there for a millenia. Which is why he said he dreamed of his return. He physically couldn't stand up until all primes were dead. I don't know where you're getting that he was afraid of Optimus. He didn't even know who he was. And if he was afraid of Optimus, he wouldn't have rushed at him. Especially after he got upgraded. He never even addressed him. Which further proves he didn't even know Optimus at all.

Even though Revenge of the Fallen is my second least favorite Transformers movie, I cannot deny that the forest fight scene is a major highlight of the film. In fact, it's easily one of my favorite fight scenes from the Bayformers series, next to the Chicago battle from Dark of the Moon.

I feel that Devastator also got an abhorrent treatment in the film writing wise. The combiners show up, make Devastator, Devastator gets the munchies and goes roomba mode on sand, trailers, and some vehicles, manages to fail killing off one of the most annoying transformers to exist with something that otherwise should've been certain doom, fucks off to the pyramids to unveil the evil blue laser machine cliche (and is made subject of a balls joke in the process), then gets killed off by a deus ex machina that was explicitly added to kill Devastator and ONLY Devastator. It sucks especially when you know that Bay and his team wanted to do WAY more with Devastator and have him be a recurring threat in the movie, but because of their pursuit for hyper-complexity, gave him a design so technically demanding that it literally destroyed studio equipment and were forced to limit his screentime to the infamous ~8 minutes we got because they didn't want to compromise on the level of detail of the body. I really, genuinely think that RoTF Devastator had a very interesting and novel design, especially the whole thing going on with the vortex grinder, but like many things in RoTF, the potential got squandered immensely by poor compromising decisions. All I can really hope for now is that the design is utilized in a future show, movie, or comic, but I think many would agree not for Devastator specifically again. It'd probably be better off as its own unique combiner.

Before the final fight, The Fallen teleports in, steals the matrix, stomps on Optimus' chest and then teleports out If Optimus was immune to his powers then the Fallen shouldn't have been able to teleport to/away from him

It's crazy how our main villain doesn't kill anyone. Megatron in the first film killed Jazz made the other Autobots run away the moment he landed and then beat Optimus. The Fallen meanwhile attacks Optimus seconds after he was revived doesn't kill him, then is punk ass bitch in the actual fight. I don't know maybe have a scene where The Fallen kills a few Autobots, or at least disables them. Like Starscream did to Ironhide and Ratchet in the first film. Really feels like the budget and deadline of the movie was catching up to them and they had to finish it quickly. Cause in the first, third and even fourth film the Villain goes out in a pretty big and satisfying way.

My only real criticism of this is that the Optimus that fought the fallen wasn’t just an angrier more ruthless Optimus, but one who’s been supercharged and even massively enhanced with the body parts of one of most powerful non-prime transformers in the bayverse (jetfire). The fallen really couldn’t do Jack shit against him, getting bum rushed and just absolutely destroyed by Optimus. And that’s kinda the whole point. The very goal of the fight was to show Optimus’s upgrade being this extreme game changer, which it succeeded in imo

I thought this video would look at Rachet or Ironside getting killed off. Devils Advocate: The final fight would be fine if there was a scene in the film where the Fallen showcases his power to kill an autobot, a flashback would do. Having a big bad having a formidable presence but ultimately not doing anything significant threat wise is something shown with Palpatine & (even Snoke despite being very underwhelming) in Star Wars. Vadar is Palpatines lapdog and gets disposed of quickly by Vadar but we see Palpatine's true power torturing Luke. We didn't need a 1v1 with the Fallen at the end of the film. Having the Fallen being beaten up quickly by Optimus is satisfying especially with how strong Optimus was at that point. The main focus for the protagonists was about resurrecting Optimus anyway, not about beating the Fallen as they had no Plan B if rezzing Prime didn't work. If 'Revenge of the Decepticons' wasn't a mouthful to say, it would've probably been a more fitting title for the film.

The thing with Palpatine is that while Vader is a physical threat and a figure of opposition to the rebellion, Palpatine is just supposed to represent the evil and power of the dark side. He doesn't need to be lightsaber fighting Luke because that's not what makes him intimidating. He is a symbol of the dark side, something for Luke to resist and Vader to overcome, which they both do Meanwhile the Fallen is supposed to be so powerful that all 12 of the other primes failed to kill him together, yet despite his powers and apparent skills he is easily defeated by the end of the movie by just fighting him, so he ends up serving the same purpose as Megatron despite being hyped up as something new and different for the good guys to take on I agree that we didn't need a 1v1, but I was hoping that this would be a threat they had to tackle differently. But in the end he just ends up being Megatron 2.0
