Hi doc,my 6 yr old daughter has no seizures for 4months but we noticed that everytime she sleeps sometimes her hands and shoulder moves and also she close one hand..so we told the doctor about it.she increased the dosage from 2.7 to 3 ml Keppra leveracitam which is to be taken 8am and 8pm..after the increase my daughter has seizure again after 4 months of no seizure and first time she vomits after having a seizure.before she doesn't vomit .what happened doc??

I have been on 8 different medications and had epilepsy for 49 years. I found carbamazepine worked for me several years ago, but regret I relocated and it is not available here. I am now weaning off Pregabalin and waiting for neurologist to suggest another plan.

Keppra at 3000mg a day radically increased my autistic son's self injurious behavior. Never again. Likewise, Depakote caused hyperammonia, which exacerbated self abuse. Then there was lamictal, which increased myoclonus and Topamax which caused kidney stones. Not to forget Vimpat caused unsteady gait, increased self biting and screaming. And all benzos ever tried for agitation have the opposite effect on his brain, as if his brain resists anything that blunts choline. Thus, ativan and versed can only be given for status seizures. Also interesting, only Dilantin and Keppra IV could stop status epileptic, but dilantin increased his myoclonus and tonic clonic seizures. As for benzos, Galantamine reverses his blunted choline, increaes focus and helps behavior. Everyone is unique. It saddens me we live in a world without enough precision medicine.

@@antknee9585 Valproate or Depakote (I'm not in the US, so I purchase it under another brand name) has been a life saver for me. While it has messed up my bowel movements, it hasn't led to another seizure.

So my child's neurologist is a jerk. He knew my ten year old son had anger problems and ADHD, yet he chose keppra as a second option after trileptal isn't working. Keppra rage is no joke. Would lamotrigine and depakote be a good option for a child at age 10?

@@DrOmarDanoun it's easy to write a prescription, it's not easy dealing with a child with severe side affects. When a patient is known to be angry then why prescribe keppra as a second option? That led me to call the man a jerk. Then the fact that nobody will call and check up on the child after writing for a prescription like that, seems like a jerk move to me. I am told to call with any concerns yet getting a person to answer the phone I'm on hold for 25 minutes every time. This is a very difficult situation to be in as a parent. Sleep is very important in epilepsy. Sleep aids do not interact with antiseizure medications.. Highly recommended to follow sleep hygiene habits.. Search for them.. If medications are needed then your neurologist can help with that... Supplements like Melatonin are safe in epilepsy

Hi Doctor, my wife has been on vimpat and clobazam. But vimpat for about 5 years. Still she gets seizures every few months or so. My concern is that many times right after she takes the medication, she starts to feel more tingling and discomfort and there was a few times she had siezure after taking the meds. This tells me I believe vimpat is not working or causing adverse reaction. Any thoughts on this? thanks

hello Doctor. I have been given lamictal 100mg in the morning after waking up and 200mg before going to bed. I was seizure free for like 7 months until a week ago. My question is, as I have night seizures, does a 7 month record a good one? Should I be worried? Should I increase dosage? 300mg per day is it a dosage for a severe form? or it's a decent dosage? I am 70. After 3 vaccines I got my first seizure in my lifetime one year ago. It’s been a horrible year. After so many medications I am on lomotragine and zomithride. I do not like them. I don’t feel good with them. The doc doesn’t seem to care. My heart skips beats. I can’t sleep. He doesn’t care. A small dose of Xanax few daily helps my severe anxiety disorder and makes me feel better with these horrible pills. What else could I take ? Will this ever go away ? It’s horrible. I feel horrible for days if I have a seizure. Not one seizure is alike. I’m elderly. If Xanax in a small dose works why can’t I have it ? It helps !
