Hello I suffered seizures for the very first time in my life in August 2023. It took about 7 days to finally get my seizures under control. They started out tonic/clonic when the ambulance picked me up and then they were focal awake seizures. I take 1500 mg Keppra twice a day as well as 100 mg Dilantin twice a day. My liver enzymes continue to be quite high out of the normal range. My neurologist says its fine but my primary is still very concerned. My primary ordered a full body nuclear medicine test 6 months ago and now he has ordered a liver ultrasound which I'm getting on the 30th of Oct. I really do not want my liver to get damaged from seizure medication. I still to this day have no idea what caused the seizures as they cannot tell me. But I find it very odd to suddenly suffer from seizures for the first time in my life at age 64. Luckily, my seizures are being controlled with medication at this point, but I still wonder what caused them. I've been told I have to take seizure meds the rest of my life which I've accepted but it still is very puzzling. Should I get a second opinion? I really don't want to have more seizures and risk my ability to drive a car again for 6 months (six months seizure free is the law here), but at the same time my liver enzymes remain high and that concerns me. I did get the first 2 Covid Vaccines and I also wonder if there could be a connection cause wise to the vaccines. I also wonder about maybe I suffered from a mini-stroke or a mini-blood clot. MRI was normal, CT was normal, but EEG showed seizure activity in August 2023. Thank you.
@DrOmarDanounАй бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience. Luckily we have much safer medications on the liver than Dilantin. Please discuss with your neurologist or get a second opinion from an epilepsy specialist

The only concern with increasing the dose is side effects increase to becoming severe. I understand the meds are important for seizures but neurologists need to consider the severity of the side effects. We give our son a lower dose of Vimpat and Zonisamide and bridge a very low dose of Ativan when needed. Also he gets medical marijuana CBD/RSO and is on the keto diet. This is the dam we built for him to try to reduce the seizures. Our neurologist agrees. High dosing of medication can be mostly counter productive as opposed to productive. Try a lower dose with other added factors like mmj and the ketogenic diet. Unfortunately some of the side effects from seizure meds can be horrific and this is where most neurologists miss the mark.
@CountDownRecords210Ай бұрын
I agree ! these “Doctors” “ recommend” Higher doses cause they get paid Higher amounts. They honestly could care less about patients. Seizure meds have literally ruined my life. They just prescribe meds without even seeing you. No EEG! No nothing . They just write scripts. It’s very disappointing what they have amounted to. All that school just to use the hand and wrist to write prescriptions. SMH horrible !

Some of us are too sensitive to take high doses ~ I have only ever been able to take 1/4 the dose of any meds, even panadol. Options? 💕

Drug Resistant Epilepsy is where I am. RNS-320 because: 1. Temporal Lobes 96% L / 4% R that no medication was able to stop... and 2. my memories, both short and long term are disappearing at an exponential rate. So, in my hope of retaining as much of my ability to remember as possible, for as long as possible, I decided to use the Neuropace option. ( Cause of my Epilepsy was a TBI in 1996. Permanently Disabled )

My seizures reduced after brain surgery and then I found out I was having seasonal seizures which means I would have more seizures in the fall and winter compared to the spring and summer and this is all do to the lack of serotonin in the fall and winter. I started cold water therapy where I have to put a cold washcloth on my face and the back of my neck 3 times a day and anytime I start to feel a absence or complex partial seizure start and when I do the cold water stops the seizures. I am drug resistant and my case is so different that both my neurosurgeon and Epileptologist asked my permission to share it with other Drs. at medical meetings and I said yes.

@@LifeIsWonderful675 I started out with just the absence sz. but as time went by the complex partial started up also because I had so many absence sz. it caused more brain damage. Try the cold water therapy as I mentioned and see if that helps you. Hello, My daughter has been having seizures for approximately 3 years, and she has an abnormal EEG. She has very restless and disturbied nights and finds she struggles to go to sleep at night. When she sleeps she has strange movements that seem repetitive in behaviour and these often either wake her up or disturb her and makes her move position. Her EEG suggested that there was 20 minutes of epileptiform activity. Whilst we know that she suffers from Non epileptic attacks and the EEG acknowledged this in the findings, it was also reported that a moderate to large amount of interictal epileptiform activity was seen which was suggested as generalised or bilateral with variable preponderance in different regions predominantly in the sleep state without any apparent clinical accompaniments (just to note:- this was an ambulatory EEG which was not accompanied by video footage). The EEG stated that these findings are supportive of epileptic seizures, probably generalised. My daughter still suffers and the doctors are still struggling to make links to a diagnosis. Whilst she was in hospital last year, she had a non epileptic seizure that was observed by medical staff, however, during the night, it was recorded on her EEG that she suffered 20 mins of epileptic activity, and the following day my daughter could not walk, on left leg for 21 hours and 14 hours on the right. The reflexes were weak mainly on the left foot. And they did not link any after affects. In fact she has been left without treatment. She has only had anxiety therapy, family therapy and just recently has had a decline in mental health and is now awaiting Dialectical behaviour therapy. Her condition has not improved and when she experiences a seizure during the night it affects her the day after. She feels tired, disoriented and cannot walk. And nothing has been diagnosed. Please can you help provide some advice as this has started to impact my daughters mental health now. 🙏

🇮🇳 Dr. 5:15 , I’ve had epilepsy since 2012, with three episodes in total, and none in the past three years. Currently, I’m on a high dosage of medications: Zonegran, Oxetol, Lacoset, and Levigress. (Other doctors mentioned this dosage may impact organ health. Go for surgery) my doctor tells surgery is not advisable as I'm not getting complete epilepsy... I sometimes experience brief déjà vu or seizure-like symptoms (smiling, hand movements, gazing), often triggered by extreme anger, loud sounds, exhaustion, or emotional stress or Lack of sleep. My doctor said these episodes are likely medication side effects rather than epilepsy itself. Could you advise on managing these symptoms and my medication levels?
@sarathk170615 күн бұрын
(2005-2012 - went to Govt hospital, no proper data) (2012-present - getting treatment) (2n opinion - other 2 doctors told must decrease Medicine level & go for surgery ASAP) 👇 My family doctor told No need for surgery. What's ur opinion sir...? Based on the MRI reports, this is the summary of the findings: 1. Mesial Temporal Sclerosis - Scarring in the temporal lobe, commonly associated with epilepsy. 2. Atrophy - Mild shrinking of certain brain regions, which might be related to long-term epilepsy. 3. Gliosis - Presence of scar tissue in the brain, often due to past injury or seizure activity. 4. Increased Signal in Hippocampus - Indicates abnormal activity or potential damage in the hippocampus, which is linked to memory and emotional regulation. These findings are commonly observed in patients with epilepsy and are likely related to your past episodes.

4. Low doses of meds? 50mg Lamotrigine twice daily is one of the meds that im on. Alongside (2x daily) 1500mg Keppra, 200mg Lacosamide. Have recently added one dose of 200mg Cenobamate every evening for around 4 months now. Was working, having no seizures great. Then last week, 3 seizures Thursday evening, 1 on Friday then 2 on Saturday. Am having tests atm at National Hospital Neurology and Neurosurgery in London UK. Lots of tests including 7day telemetry, PET scan, FMRI, SPECT scan. Am waiting to go into hospital for an invasive EEG too. The Neurologists there have narrowed down that my epilepsy 110% is left TLE. Wanting to carry out either "Anterior Temporal Lobe Resection" or "Amygdala-Hippocampectomy" dependant on the results of the next EEG as final confirmation that the anterior temp lobe is the offending part. Personally?? Am petrified. Even as a 38yr old man.

They told me she is maxed out on the medication there is nothing more they can do for her. This will probably lead to her demise. When she was 4 1/2 months old she had a brain scan they said she had brain calcifications/scars all over her brain. Supposedly they think I was exposed to CMV virus when I was pregnant with her. CMV being the probable cause of her cerebral palsy. Do you have any thoughts on this?
