Happy New Year Mazzy. Love hearing you discuss new stuff…some interesting albums here I will explore some for sure…my album pick for you to consider is ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’ by The 1975. This is their 5th studio album and is a very smooth, Pop record with some beautiful songs. They have matured so much and the Band plays extremely well on this album. The vocal from Matty Healy is very nice as well, he really is a fine singer who adds so much layers and style into his singing it adds nice elements to these songs!

Happy New Year Mazzy! I’ve not commented for a while and been playing a bit of catch up on your more recent posts.. Thank you for sharing your collection, road-trip and introducing us to your wider social circle. Always done with great enthusiasm and good humour… as well as informative of course. Great picks in your top ten… well I would say that as most are in line with my own… Not so sure about Renaissance tbh… but too much style over content for me… a lovely sheen like gasoline on a puddle, but don’t poke it with a stick, cos not so much depth… but I can also see that after the restrictions of recent years, there is a need to party! Big Thief is my personal favourite… and probably because of that loose experimental feel… You nailed it when you compared it stylistically to my favourite Beatles album. A couple of albums that would be close contenders that are not on your list are Fontaines DC - Skinty Fia and Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up Here… The latter, I think would nicely fit your liking of British Art-Rock experimental stuff.

Happy New Year, Mazzy! Oh, well, if I'm going to have only one of your top ten from 2022, I'm happy it's your top spot, Orville Peck. I hear a lot of Scott Walker's operatic drama in Bronco. Overblown and theatrical in the best way possible. Cheers - Hedley

Hi Mazzy. I watch your channel regularly. I can't say our tastes converge much, in the 'S' section of a record store I'm more likely to go to Slayer than Springsteen, but I do enjoy your obvious love of music and entertaining monologues. I bought Bronco unheard from your comments on this video and wow, what an album! The voice, the songs, the quality of two disc vinyl - the whole package is absolutely amazing. I'd never have found this myself, so thank you. Keep up the great work in 2023.

Very nice video, Mazzy, and timely. During the pandemic and needing something to do, I began a "new music exploration" project where I'd discover / re-discover artists and composers that I wasn't very familiar with. I've vowed to start that project again and now you've given me some artists to explore this year. Thanks.

Like you I was heavily into Beth Orton in the early days, she did a great EP with Terry Callier in between her first two albums, but kind of drifted away as it got more electronic and less folk. Your comments have encouraged me to rediscover her and I will give this album a try. I am a big fan of the female singer/songwriter so it will be no hardship ! Aimee Mann, Heather Nova, Rachael Sage, Laura Nyro etc can't get enough of that kind of stuff so any recommendations will be gladly taken. Must have watched 20 or 30 of your videos since coming across the channel before Christmas, Always entertaining and informative. Are you aware of an artist called Rosalie Cunningham from here in the UK. I have just given her the album of the year award over on my new Crushed Custard channel. If you haven't heard her might I suggest you have a listen. Heavily influenced by The Beatles, who I have figured you have a liking for, and sixties psychedelia her band has a great sound and do a great live take on Eleanor Rigby. Looking forward to more of your videos. Happy new year.

Great video … only two albums on your list (Big Thief and The Smile) are om my list. But that's what makes your video great. I prefer introductions to new albums, rather than being confirmed in my own choices. So I will check out Beth Orton, Orville Peck and Bjørk. For years I have seen Bjørk as a typical "four album wonder”, just like Velvet Underground, Roxy Music and Echo and the Bunnymen 😉but I may be wrong about Bjørk.

Thanks for this, Mazzy, and happy New Year. My favourite of the year (and, actually one of the best things I’ve heard in maybe the last ten years) is Ants From Up There by Black Country New Road. You may well have heard it, but it’s a cross between Indie Rock/Pop whilst looking back to emo of the late ‘90s/early 2000s. Musically, it reminds me a little of a heavier Sufjan Stevens (with the woodwind, strings, and choral vocals mixed in with the guitars, drums, etc.). Lyrically, it feels clever and unique - some of it is properly heartbreaking (especially now we can guess at some of the circumstances influencing the writing and composition). The opening lyrics to Good Will Hunting, for example, is genius imo. It’s an album that I really love - it’s been on hard rotation for months now and it still moves me every time.
