One thing about Goteye is this was a smart move. He made a legendary album. Even if you don't know his name you hear a track and you know it. But he went out on top, made his money, rode off into the sunset, and can live a regular life. Like if you saw him in the store. You wouldn't think "I'm looking at a multimillionaire."

One really cool thing you didn’t bring up about Gotye was the way he treats Somebody That I Used To Know. The music video on KZbin isn’t monetized. He gets absolutely no ad revenue from it. Not only that, but he refuses to let people use the song in marketing, and he won’t license it out to any big movies. It is however perfectly OK to be used in independent works. Man found himself on top of the world, with the ability to do whatever he wanted, and instead he chose to jump off while simultaneously giving the middle finger to the music industry and everything it stands for. You couldn’t be any more cool than that if you tried.

I have found articles on him pretty interesting. He acknowledges that ‘Somebody’ is so successful that from the royalties of that song alone he is able to do what he want for the rest of his life. He loves music and being a recording artist, but he doesn’t need to be commercially successful ever again. He has an independent record label. He has played for some Australian bands. He apparently plans to release more music. But he is not driven by money or fake and that song becoming so popular set him up for a life where he doesn’t need either to pursue his interests.

I think Chance has got another really exceptional album still in him, but you can tell the battering he took from people shitting on Big Day has got him thinking twice about doing another big project also Coldplay for sure fell off hard. Viva La Vida was such a stand out album especially in the often stagnant pop genre with some really great production and guest writing from artists like Brian Eno and Jon Hopkins, and then everything after Mylo Xlyoto really leaned hard into to sugary boring pop. would love to see another video talking about that

This video kinda showed why I love aphex twin music so much the fact that he made so many songs that sounds fresh and fun and unique to this day is insane Always listen to your previous projects to up them up man

Chance falling off really hurt, I was fresh out of high school when coloring book dropped. It got me out of a dark place in my life, but I still listen to most of the songs on that album and acid rap

I’m glad that Chance’s new songs aren’t shit and are actually really good. The heart and the tongue is one of my favorite tracks from him.

Dude this video is amazing. By far one of your bests in terms of presentation, edition, topic etc. keep up the great work!

Since you said you have more to say about this subject, a part 2 would be interesting to see. I really like to see that analysis of Maroon 5, and that other mystery artist that you’ve hinted.

@@sahildevgun04 He didn't say who exactly, he hinted at the end of the video if he were to make a part 2, he may talk about them.

Gotye’s Easy Way Out is one of the best music videos I’ve ever seen. It’s absolutely incredible. I love stop motion and the way it looks like a single rotating shot it so cool.

I'm so happy you mentioned Like Drawing Blood, every video mentioning Gotye seems to leave out the fact that he had 2 great albums before his big hit. It's such an underappreciated album, and it felt like only Aussies knew about it until now. I implore anyone who hasn't heard it to give it a listen, it's so dynamic that there's something for everyone.

People like Gotye are the type of artist I’d wish I’d be if I ever got into music or acting. Make a great piece of art, get paid for it and then go back to living a normal life. Doesn’t get better than that imo
