Same, I do 2D so I’m not too familiar w cgi but it’s crazy how high fidelity you can get, and seeing the jump between consoles is wild. Not that high fidelity always makes for better art, but it’s cool that you have more options + more range to communicate a design. Like when curly hair used to be really difficult to render not that long ago, now the tech has gotten so good we’ve been able to represent a wider variety of hairstyles and textures. Anyways that’s a tangent but I’m pro-peach fuzz

Yeah pretty much. I saw a post on Instagram wishing Black women a safe delivery because we're 4x times more likely to die when giving birth and the comments where filled with "all lives matters" type of people. Lots of "how about we wish ALL pregnant women a safe delivery" and "so black women are the only ones who deserve a safe delivery?" and my personal favorite "Now if I said I wished white women a safe delivery, I would be called racist, but because it's black women it's okay?". I had to log out, because I couldn't handle the sheer amount of ignorance I was reading. And of course most of the comments came from non-black folk, of course.

Same. Chronic illness + pain so I can't work, plus I live in the middle of nowhere, so to compensate I spend a lot of time online or at least with KZbin playing in the background. I always think that I might be online too much, but at least I still know the earth is round, space is real, transphobia is bigotry, slavery is infinitely worse than a private medical procedure, and autism didn't come from people being afraid of Medusa.

Relating. Can't move around well with many chronic illnesses. I'm inside aside the doctor visits. So being online a lot has been both bad and good. The goodhas been the funny stuff and entertaining movies/shows. Oh and some neat chronic illness people to talk to. That helps a lot. The rest is whatever.
@Lara-gc9wd2 жыл бұрын
Chronic onlineness is less about "I spend a lot of time online" and more about "I've spent so much time in an online space with its own rules, acceptable worldviews, and politics that I've become completely unaware of how the rest of reality functions," or "I've spent so much time curating an online space that excludes any experience, argument or worldview that I cannot be validated by that I cannot actually process or engage with a large range of viewpoints, something that is a vital human experience and critical to developing social skills and personal beliefs" So it's less about how much time you spend online and more about how you engage with the online spaces you are presented with. If you're able to look critically at how much you are online and how that could potentially distort your reality, then that's a good sign you're in the clear

I work in news and one day I was covering a dude who, I kid you not, randomly murdered 4 people. An old couple, an adult mom, and a daughter. This dude was clearly schizophrenic or suffered from psychotic breaks. But he found a specific reddit forum where people were convinced everyone around them was stalking them, being paid by the government to target them, etc. And he bought into it. He was convinced these 4 people were part of this big thing. It's literally terrifying, and I think without social media, he wouldn't have had an entire community support his delusions. The ending of your video is real and terrifying

I used to be online a lot and even found really good support groups for my psychosis and delusions. I don't know what changed, but a few years ago I had to get off pretty much all forms of social media because of this exact issue. I was never pushed toward violence but I was terrified all the time and got to the point that I couldn't go outside without massive panic attacks. It's pretty isolating to not really know what's going on with culture and the world in real time. I watch a lot of commentary channels to try to keep up, but it's like I'm on boomer timelines now and I'm 27 🥲.

I heard about gangstalking from somebody acting strange at the self checkout machine. He was trying to check out but didn't want to be too close to it so he was standing several feet away from the machine. Then he handed me a peice of paper with a link to a website and covered in text about how they're using radio waves to infect your brain and make other people think you're crazy. It's really sad because it's an idea that makes sense for someone who has a break with reality and it can't exactly be disproven to them so it's easier for them to believe in the conspiracy than to admit there may be something wrong with their perception of reality.

@grimble45642 жыл бұрын
@@crazy922blade A lot of pro-lifers like to have the take that abortion is worse than slavery because at least slaves supposedly have agency over their situation. I'd say that's questionable at best. Just speaking about the history of the US alone, even if you did escape, your odds of success were slim. You were way more likely to either die or be recaptured. Even in modern times, it's still extremely hard to escape slavery because people who don't get paid obviously have little to no resources. Your life has been unwillingly placed into the hands of another person and the circumstances of your enslavement serve to keep it that way. In terms of which is worse, I would argue that abortion is way easier to justify morally because a fetus just isnt a seperate, independent individual from its mother. On the realest of levels, whatever life they have while still in the womb is really their mothers life. Since every fetus lives rent free as part of its mothers body, every mother should always have the right to make the final decisions on what to do with that body. The reason doesn't matter, it's her body and she should be able to do what she wants with it. Also just as an aside because this is something that really bothers me. Yeah abortions might be kinda tragic and not pleasant to think about, but it's even more tragic that there are now states where r.ape survivors who get them receive higher criminal sentences than the men who put those children inside them against their will.

The term chronic refers to something that has longevity and is difficult to stop. people who are chronically online are not so easily able to just stop their habits and behaviors. I think it's a bit of both unfortunately. Chronic applies to addictions or persistent patterns of behavior and to persistent illness alike. But the two instances have another factor (the outlook / expected progression / possibility for intervention) on which they differ, making them completely different in nature and ill- 🙃 advised for comparison. I think using "extremely online" is a good solution in this case, so really there's no issue here as I see it (even if chronic is technically appropriate to describe this condition of onlineness)

The part about societal pressure to post about issues, even if you’re not interested is so true. I hate when people say “everyone stopped caring. X people are the only ones posting about this still” like no??? People can support financially and emotionally in private, it doesn’t have to be online. Posts aren’t a good reference for if people care about issues. And they get called performative if they do post.

This, tbh it’s why I pulled back from social media
@serenitybysaf2 жыл бұрын
I personally don’t totally agree with that since social media has helped shedding light to important issues. The exposure from people sharing posts has helped pushing people in power to make an actual difference. I like to think of it as democracy but in a different form than what we’re used to. Besides that, I also believe social media has helped educate people & exposed people (and myself) to things they might not have known about if they had limited themselves to their physical surroundings. Obviously this can become very polarising (especially when it comes to beliefs) with the way social media is, but social media definitely did impact our current society in a more educated and positively progressive way. So something as little as sharing a post to your story can actually make a difference!
@Pamelat1232 жыл бұрын
@@serenitybysaf I never implied that posts can’t spread awareness. It’s definitely a nuanced conversation, however, I don’t think it’s right for me to educate others on complex topics while I’m still educating myself. There’s always a big pressure to post on issues that I just learned about and I feel more genuine when I’m supporting in private or talking with friends in person. Also, it seems disingenuous when I see people post an aesthetic infographic about mass genocide, followed by a snap of their lunch. Hence why I say social media isn’t a good reference for if people truly care or if they just feel pressured to post. It’s hard to convey all my thoughts in a KZbin comment (or Instagram story), which is again why I prefer face to face conversations with friends and family. I won’t be dwelling on this any longer because, like I said, I can’t have a nuanced or in-depth conversation over social media comments so take this as you will.

@Jhfisibejoso8pkabrvo2is82 жыл бұрын
@@serenitybysaf Very *rarely* is that ever true. In fact, it's often people in power using social media to communicate important issues to the masses rather than vice versa. This is a huge part of the field of public health. So much of our work revolves around addressing racial inequalities and socioeconomic disparities. Public health professionals use social media as a communicative tool all the time. We educate the public, and we implement policy changes accordingly. But we don't just do whatever a bunch of people online think we SHOULD do, obviously. And in most instances of the public rallying together to initiate change, it is usually a false perception to attribute that change to social media. For example, say someone was falsely arrested and there is a huge public outcry and then the person is subsequently acquitted of all charges. The public might see this and think "Wow, our Tweets and outrage really worked!" but what the public *didn't* see was that the person was *already in the process of being acquitted* and that numerous professionals were already investigating and addressing the wrongful arrest far before the public ever "got involved." In other words, social media allows people to feel like they did something, when in reality, they haven't. Also, while social media is an excellent educational tool for professional educators and outreach specialists, I would disagree that it does much for the layperson who just happens to be perusing social media. As a disabled transgender person, I cannot count the number of people who have "educated themselves on trans issues" with social media only to end up *speaking over me completely and erasing my own perspective.* This happens with minority groups all the time. People only get "educated" by the people they WANT to hear. And internet algorithms don't do minority groups any favor in that regard, because certain perspectives will inevitably be shared far more often than others. You might be able to use social media to become aware of one particular issue or event, but it rarely ever paints the whole picture or tells the whole story! Therefore, it is hardly sufficient to be described as "educational." *TL;DR: Social media can be useful for spreading awareness on simple topics but the impact of internet activism is often drastically overstated*
