I have been re-bagging and boarding a large collection over the last six months. Many of those comics were in 20+ year old bags. I started using the ComicPro product which I really like. When I couldn't get my hands on those I tried the ComiCare option but quickly relegated them to dollar books. I also tried BCW and thought they were ok. However, I eventually just bought 1000 ComicPro bags and boards directly from ComicPro. After shipping it worked out to about the same price as at my LCS (~$20 CAD per set) but I got my preferred product. Anyway, I really do like the ComicPro product. I hope they look this good after 10+ years so I don't have to do this again for a while.

Hey chris. I picked up comic care current bags and board for bronze age books. I find the normal size books go in tight. Have you ran into that? Im wondering if i should switch to a silver bag and board.?
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
Early bronze age books won't fit in current bags. In 1974, comics were changed to have a smaller width. So anything after this change (when comics still had 25 cent cover price) is the same size as current comics, and should fit fine. Anything before it will need to go in a silver age bag or like I use, the "thick current" by BCW, because those are 7inch bags in width. Hope this helps!

Have you changed your mind since, or was this video intentionally only focusing on polypropylene?
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
Great comment! This video was pretty much to look at PP options. No Mylar or PE. I still have the same feelings towards PE; they are a thicker, more protective bag, than today's PPs, but they do yellow and would most likely be needing replacement after some years, especially if the storage environment isn't the best. The OPP though are seemingly in a league of their own, but I realized after making this video that the OPP Pro Line's were defective, and every single bag split right down the side. That's a problem.

Basically, ever since I bought ultra pro bags and boards the bags the bags are slightly taller than the backing boards forcing me to have to pull down on the comic bag's flap a lot harder to tape the comics correctly and they often leave a lot of air at the top of the comic bag as it doesn't close cleanly. Back in 2020 I bought a package of Mylar bags for around $18 (50 count) for the cream de la creame of my collection, in 2022, I looked to check the price of the bags, it was more than double the price around $45, it was easier just to sell off some of the lower value back issues, instead of buying more Mylar bags, If you have a lot of valuable 20th century comics they are worth it, if you have a lot of common older comics, it's not.

Hey jeno. Been watching you awhile and like your content. I think pro line are the best bags with bcw boards. Something you didn't point out is that bcw and comic care both slide when you stack the books. Ultra pros don't slip at all. You can stack 50 books and they won't move. That being said. I am not sponsored by BCW, I am part of their affiliate program. A sponsorship would mean cash kickbacks for dropping their name. I merely get a small store credit as an affiliate. But to answer your question, yes you can trust my opinion. Why? Because for one, go watch my videos before I became an affiliate. I said the same thing about their products then because I believe it. Also, I was the one that reached out to them, not the other way around. If Ultra Pro cane to me with a sponsorship, I wouldn't take it. Why? That's point number 2. I don't sell out. I have declined countless sponsorships because I will never speak on a company's behalf if what I'm saying isn't honest. If I have any type of sponsorship or relationship with a company, it's because I stand by that company. Also, I don't just talk up bcw. I always tell people that unless you buy in bulk from bcw's website, you often can find e gerber mylar bags for cheaper. So, take this at your will, but if you watch my channel and know my character, I don't sell out for clicks and views or for kickbacks in my pocket. Informative video. Would you say that using the BCW size combo that you show here would still fit a thicker comic ok since the board is taking up a little more space in the bag than a current (6 3/4 in wide) board would?
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
Great question. It depends on the thickness. If you're talking 80 page, it could get a bit tight, and for that I would recommend the Current Thick bags (which are 7 inches wide) and the regular board (which is a 6 7/8 inch wide board).
@DescendingClimax2 жыл бұрын
I've used Comic Care and BCW. BCW has a crisp and clear look with a semi-mylar feel to it. The bags and boards are uniform together and a little bit thick as a standard board. Comic Care is definitely like how you stated, filmy with a silver glaze to it. Almost like a cheap bag. The boards are cut uniform together, but the bags are not. Out of 100 bags, you'll get about 80+/- bags that fit loose, 15+/- tight fitted bags and the rest that are cut badly and don't fit a backing board. The texture on the bag also makes them slip when you stack comics on them so they will slide and fall after 3 or 4 books. I just found I wasted money with these. Comic Pro Line is a bit more expensive, but very clear. I bought some books from Bueller and some came in the Comic Pro Line bags and boards. Looks just like and feels like mylar.

Yeah not much difference in the boards outside of a slightly smoother cut on the BCWs. Ultra pros are crystal clear, but I stopped using them because they have been wrinkling much faster than my BCW bags. I think around 2017, they changed either the plastic or how they produce it. I use silver size boards with 'regular' size bags, which are between silver and current size bags. The silver size boards just fit and also do not allow the books to move around.

I like the snug fit of the BCW bags and boards but I always put my keys/minor keys in egerber mylites and fullback. They look great and protect the books much better.

Thanks for sharing Chris. Really good to know, I am so confused with all those standard/current bags and board with different size. Please also do Mylar videos when you get a chance too. Keep up the great videos.

I have heard lots of complaints that the comic pro line bags spit at the sides very easily. Have you experienced this? I personally use BCW bags and boards and eGerber mylites.
@joephuz12 жыл бұрын
I hevent had any splitting, they seem pretty solid. The one critique I have is there’s a bit of like plastic debris or roughness along one of the edges but it comes off and looks great. A minor annoyance really, hopefully they can work that out. But I love the comic pro line and switched over entirely

Interesting enough, I'm uploading an updated video right now.

Awesome video! Appreciate the tips/advice. Do you ever use silver age bags/boards for your modern books?
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! And no, I don't. The reason is because if a book moves around in the bag, it could damage it. You want the bag and board to be tight enough to where the book sits still whenever the book is handled, flipped through, etc.

Nice comments but I must say I like to use silver age bags and boards across all lines With the exception of any golden age book I may have. I like the fact that there’s extra room to get boards in without risking bending corners. I also like to see that you use blue painters tape that is by far the best way to seal a bag
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I love my painter's tape!

Great info! I use silver sizes for everything (except for the few golden books I have). I like the extra room they give. Mylar if it's over a $20 book. I need to try those Pros though, they look sharp

Great content as always! I want to re-bag and board a portion of my collection (90s and early 2000s) and have been struggling with which brand and size to use. After watching this video, I think I’m going to use BCW modern/current thick comic bags and regular boards.

Thank you for this video! As I'm just getting back into the hobby I have no supplies for any of my new books and have been re-using older bags as a stop gap, but they are definitely old as they are yellowing and full of scotch tape that teenage me used years ago. Think I am going to try and get my hands on some of those Comic Pro Line bags. Thanks again and keep putting out great content!
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
Yeah those sound like old Polyethylene bags. Take heed on the Comic Pro Line bags, as after I made this video, I found that most of them were splitting all the way down the side.
