All bars used for general purpose should have center knurls, prevents bar from sliding when doing squats.
@bewimotos6 жыл бұрын
i was wondering that, nice tip
@Gold-oj8do6 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. If you're doing clean and jerks you would want a bar without a center knurl so the bar doesn't dig into your neck area.
@Gold-oj8do6 жыл бұрын
pingufromindia Thank you for the question. When you do a clean, (where you bring the bar to the chest, neck, and shoulder area) before driving it up over head. That is when the middle of the bar can come in contact with the neck area. Or just below the neck area. That is why they manufacture bars with and without a center knurling.
@Gold-oj8do6 жыл бұрын
pingufromindia Also, if you're doing front squats a center knurl is not usually the best. Most of the big Olympic lifters use a bar without a center knurl for the reasons stated above.
@Gold-oj8do6 жыл бұрын
@pingufromindia Hi bud. If you're main lifts are dead lifts, squats and bench presses I would probably go with a center knurl. I use and own the Original Texas Power bar. Sharp knurl with a center knurl. I think that would serve you well. I also own a Rouge Bar without a center knurl. Very nice bar. In fact I just got off the phone with Rouge a couple of minutes ago and I want to buy their Freedom Bar. It's on back order. Have you seen that bar? It's sweet. If you go with the Texas Power bar make sure you get the original manufactured by Buddy Caps. If you just get one bar you can always add a second one later. The Rouge Freedom bar does not have a center knurl. Check their web site at Rouge Fitness. Lot of cool stuff there.

For clarification, in a garage gym what do we need to look for in a bar? Cerakote? Zinc? Stainless steel?
@GarageGymReviews6 жыл бұрын
Cerakote or Stainless Steel is ideal.
@jasonjase86614 жыл бұрын
If you get a stainless steel one in your humid gym and it rusts it is a low grade stainless (304 Chinese stainless) if you find a 316 north American stainless you can store your bar in the ocean and it won't rust
@downwardspiral32526 жыл бұрын
Allright dude...based on your review, and a bunch of other research, I just bought a Rogue limited edition "Black Friday" Ohio Bar with the Cerakote finish. It has identical specs as the Rogue Bar 2.0, plus the Cerakote finish...which was an extra $60, but I think it will be worth it to keep the shaft looking nice over time. The black zinc on the 2.0 seems pretty good, but I really wanna give the cerakote a try. Thanks for making this video. very informative. BTW, most of my stuff is Titan (with no complaints), but I'm following your advice and investing in a quality barbell!!

i have been using a CAP barbell for a few years. abused it to the max, left it outside in the rain and elements and it still gets the job done. it got rusty and it doesn't even spin anymore but i'm not getting rid of it. the only thing i don't like is the knurling in the center, sometimes when doing cleans or power cleans it scratches my lower neck. Also, just purchased a rogue bar 2.0... so excited !!! so, after some research i figured it was the best barbell to get and you seem to agree. thanks for the video

I’ve been using Xtraining barbells and their associated plates and have had no problems. I do compete, I’ve used the Rouge base models up to the Eleiko competition bars. The best barbell for price, quality, and overall versatility is the Xtraining competition bar. You can get it around $230 (minus shipping), our gym has switched to these bars, and now a year and a half later these bars are holding up.

I think the Ohio power bar is the best power bar even vs texas power bar, Eleiko power bars, and even vs specialty bars like iron wolfe bench bar ( when it comes to benching with OPB). When it comes to WEIGHTLIFTING barbells, the pendlays are super good, especially with pendlay bumpers, they fit so well, pendlay bumper plates fit amazing on all barbells though.
@GarageGymReviews7 жыл бұрын
The OPB is awesome. It will definitely be high up on the power bar list.
@kjhdrugfreemasterspowerlif5887 жыл бұрын
Hard to beat at price point the rogue Ohio ipf approved bar ... but the eleiko still beats it overall if price weren't an issue... Texas power bars imo aren't very good knurling to aggressive and to flexy if you're going to have to lift on platform on an eleiko or titex or similar ... titex is a good bar of you're in the States and can get hold of one they're close to an eleiko at less cash ... I've got an eleiko and I use a SS power bar (205k psi) for squats and bench in rack to keep knurling pristine on it ... it's just the business for ipf lifters
@frustrateduser6666 жыл бұрын
I can understand if you are saying that the Ohio Power Bar is the best value per dollar. If you don't bring price into the equation, the Eleiko is a better bar. Now, is it possible that you prefer Ohio to Eleiko? Sure.

@@GarageGymReviews I just received the Cap Barbell OB86PBCK and it is actually a great power bar. I'm sure it won't out perform a Texas PB, Ohio PB or anything Chris Duffin makes, but, for the price, it is freaking awesome.

I own a few Texas Power bars and picked up Rogues Ohio barbell last year. The Ohio barbell will do the job for the average person. My plan was to replace all our Texas power bars with the Ohio because they are cheaper and Rogue has great turn around time. I notice when I get up 400 plus on the bench press the Ohio bends strange and it feels like it’s gonna roll out of my hands. I also notice when deadlifting at 600 or higher something just feels off like it is rolling forward and weights tend to feel more difficult to pull. We pull with Texas deadlift bars at our gym as well but sometimes I want less aggressive knurling and a 28.5 diameter to work grip. I’ve powerlifting for 16 years (lifting 24) so I’m pretty picky with my barbells and notice slight differences other might not. We do like the Rogue Echo weightlifting barbells over the Pendlay weightlifting barbell. I didn’t see that happening but if the kids have a choice of weightlifting bars for clean max outs they do tend to choose the Rogue barbell. Most will clean between 185 to 225 pound range with a few hitting 275 pounds. Just thought I’d share my opinion.

I think the first rogue barbell to match the spin is like double the price. I don't do bench very often but for squats, deads, clean and jerks and snatches ive loved this bar.

Actually the black oxide aids in the bar not being slippery. If the bar is chrome then you need kneeling for squats. Some high end bars have a passive knurl that can help but is less likely to hurt.

What bar is the one hanging on the wall behind you to the far left, facing the viewer? That would be the one on your far right in the video. The one with the knurls in the middle. That's the one I currently have, and I'm just curious to the quality of that bar in your opinion. I've had that bar for almost 20 years now, and it held up very well under some very heavy useage. It only got a little corroded along the knurled grips where I bench the most and did some standing barbell curling for many years. It doesn't have a lot of spin on the ends so it's great for benching and is a very stiff bar. It's great for bench and squat. Terrible for deadlift.

Is the spin that big of a deal on a bench press? The reason I'm asking is that I'm putting together a home gym, and I really prefer 28MM barbells over 29MM variants for grip purposes. However, all good 28MM barbells are Olympic, meaning they have high spin. Now I know that the bar recommended here is 28.5MM, however unfortunately I can't really try it out anywhere, and I really don't want to go through the hassle of shipping it back. Hence, does a good Rogue or Eleiko Olympic barbell really unsettle you that much or cause wrist stability issues?

Your thoughts and recommendations please. Thanks!

Hey Ed, I was looking at getting the stainless steel precision bar. Is it good for a multi-purpose bar such as oly lifts, presses (some of the bars really hurt the wrists on bench), deads, wods etc. Also, do the chromed sleeves hold up well? Coop mentioned his AB Training bar in chrome developed rust.
@eottonw6 жыл бұрын
S L the only bad thing about the AB SS precision training bar is the Sleeves. They rust really fast. The rest of the bar is flawless but the sleeves, that’s one item they need to improve to make this the best bar out there. Still it is a good barbell and I love that is a quiet bar. If you can live with the rusty sleeves, I think it is ok.

By Rogue 2.0 do you mean the Rogue Bella bar? Also which would you recommend between the Rogue Bella bar & the Womens Olympic Bar? Doing olympic lifting but will also use for the bar for all accessory & strength work in program such as squats, pulls, bench etc etc. I am in Australia so we don't have Fringe sports here.

I have the bare steel power bar from rogue, and the rust is a bummer. Plan to upgrade to either cerakote or SS.

@@alanbox4014 are the prices really up becauase of the virus? I looked today into barbells but they and the weights were all really expensive

Sammy, this particular cap barbell was around 130 a few weeks ago. I remember looking at it and the price has been increasing for all workout equipment or becoming unavailable on amazon. A lot of workout equipment can be expensive depending on the brand. I will say that some brands may be increasing but on there store online they may be the same price but I’ve noticed a lot of well known brands have stopped shipment and are unavailable at the moment.

Power bars are thicker than 28 mm bars. You can bench more weight with a power bar. ALSO bearing vs bushings. Bearings are better.

Hey Coop, thanks for your work. Really appreciate all your vid. Iam a bit suprise with that last choice ...I really would prefer the stainless ohio bar or the cerakote instead of de 2.0 ... what do you think about that?

Which bars or any other bar should I buy? I am only buying one bar (budget) , I am not power lifter or Olympic anything, I am just a chubby guy working out , I need a bar that can do deadlift, squat and benchpress, also hope it last long because my homegym will be in my basement.. thx!

Coop. What's up with the echo bar!? Any good?
@jhunt62304 жыл бұрын
Hey Coop! I have the old Chan bar- looking for an upgrade. Do you know the Cali bar from American Barbell? I’m leaning towards a cerakote’d bar because it’s for my garage gym - also wanting that dual-marking (or at least powerlift marks). And I prefer a less aggressive knurl... Thank you for your insight!
