Russ you keep expanding my brain about bike stuff. Though the stand is not for me now I now wish I'd gotten a better stand than the one I got off Amazon. The narrow clamp is a real bonus as I run my seat posts lower on larger frames. And I'm digging the paint scheme in that room .

Not just cargo bikes, but those electric things too. the one my sister in law got must weight more than 60lbs. I'm sure my existing stand won't hold it. I've used ropes from the ceiling in my garage, but that's not ideal.

@@dolittle6781 check out the Park Tool PRS-33.2 ($2,795.95 USD MSRP) which holds two bikes or the single bike Remco stand (MSRP $914 USD). Both of these are in my opinion better suited to the needs of shop mechanics and home DIYers than this stand. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing idea, but at a $1800 MSRP, it's a hard sell.

The first thing that struck me about that stand was the length of the legs. That is the key to stability. Obviously, the rest of the stand has to be sturdy enough to prevent wobbles, etc. and it sure seems that it is!

That’s a nice bike, can you do a review of your monopole? :) Also, wouldn’t it be nice with this bike to clamp it on the frame in the middle, so there is not that much strain on the seatpost because of the weight overhang?

I get that you're doing it to show the beefiness of the stand, but you really shouldn't clamp a bike that front heavy by the seatpost, the smaller clamp and lever effet will damage an aluminium seatpost if you apply any kind of working force on the bike, instead you should keep it balanced and clamp it by the top tube.
@smultron3030
@smultron3030 29 күн бұрын
Yeah, I would be worried about that, especially with a lightweight seatpost. The reason why the clamps are normally wide is to prevent such problems (and raising a seat a couple inches isn't really a problem that needs solving).

@PathLessPedaledTV
@PathLessPedaledTV Ай бұрын
1. Legs are much wider and spread apart than the Park for more stability. 2) clamp handle is offset so it doesn't interfere with the frame. 3) clamp is smaller allowing it to clamp on to bikes without much seatpost exposed 4) there is no way to rotate on the horizontal axis on the Park without undoing the clamp that also adjusts height 5) no way to stake out the Park 6). Offset of the clamp is a lot further allowing for less interference when using wide platform pedals 7) locking surface that controls the rotation of the arm is a lot greater, allowing for greater grip strength without having to overtighten it....etc., I had a Park and gave it away after using this one.

Great video, but, I was hoping since you moved to Europe that you would have visited some of the great Euro bike brands like Rohloff, Hope, Mavic etc. Your're spoilt for choice in moving to Europe but I can't but feel that you have regressed a bit by becoming too local to where you live. There have been a number of bike shows that favor touring bikes that you have missed. As an example, I loved it when you visited Paul components, back in the day. Please travel a bit and show us what is going on in Euroland.

Thanks for showing us this stand. My only concern with bike stands in general is how strong you have to be to lift the bike up a few feet off the floor, hold it steady with one hand , and then use your other hand to line up and clamp the bike’s seat post to the stand. That really blows! All the other features are irrelevant if you can’t comfortably get the bike attached to the stand. Someone needs to invent a lift where you can step on a floor pedal and raise your bike to the right height and set the correct angle. The lift device could be activated manually or automatically using a motor. Seems so primitive to expect a cyclist of average weight and strength to do the heavy and potentially dangerous lifting especially if you miss align the seat post with the clamp. Gotta take things to the next level and stop advertising these medieval style contraptions.

@@PathLessPedaledTV Thanks for sending the link. Hmm hard to tell how the automatic bike stand works just from looking at the pics. Still think they could do a lot better and cheaper too from what I could tell from a quicker glance at the pics. I have a lifting “hack” that works for me-two cheap plastic floor stands with drawers from a big box store two feet high, one to set each wheel on spaced on the floor in front on my inexpensive bike stand. Lift the bike and then let the wheels sit on the two stands. My hands are now free to clamp and align bike stand clamping device to the seat post as the bike rests against my upper body. I also can place a piece of bookcase shelving board on top of the two two feet high stands for ease of rolling the bike a little to the left or right. Can send a pic somewhere if you want. The plastic stands I bought each have three drawers where I can keep all kinds of tools and accessories. The whole setup including a $70 Amazon bike stand was around $130! I’m a happy camper. Don’t have to make any noises struggling to lift my bike although with all the errands-running gear I’ve added to it including a heavy U lock rack and panniers and other stuff it probably weighs around 40-45 pounds.
