In this week's Gear or Gadget, we are bringing our experiences with different products to the table to do a hybrid style product review. We are calling this segment "Gear or Gadget." Today in the studio we have Jared McLellan, our new hire for customer service here at Exodus.
We will be determining whether we think this piece of hunting equipment is gear, and we would buy it again or is it a gadget and money can be better spent somewhere else.
There are a couple of ground rules:
#1 We are not here to brand bash anyone. We are simply here to give honest reviews on products we have used.
#2 NO USEAGE OF THE TERM "GAME CHANGER". The game has not changed, and will not change from a single product.
In this episode, we talk about Chad's choice in hunting boots. Chad brought to the table the Crispi Thor GTX Boots that he bought for hunting out west, and the Crispi Hunter GTX Boots that he has been using to keep his feet warm for whitetail hunting. Jared brought to the table, a useless tool that is supposed to make field dressing a deer easier, but it just adds an unnecessary step and space in your hunting backpack. Cam brought to the table, some of the best fixed blade broad heads on the market, the Afflictor K2 Fixed Blade Broadheads and the Afflictor EXT Fixed Blade Broadheads. be sure to tune in for this one!

not only a quality pair of boots is a must.. but a quality "broke in" pair of boots is just as important... nothing worse (and I have done this) than ball buster blister maintenance after the 1st day of hoofing on a hunt of life time chasing elk, mule deer, or whitetail..

The buttout is an awesome tool. It really works good if you use it correctly

I went with Zamberlan Leopard GTX for my deer boot. Two seasons so far, and I love them. No break in needed at all. I tried on the Crispi Summit and some Salewa as well, but went with Zamberlan. I like how the stiffness feels like it propels me forward. They are quiet, and I love the stiff shank because I am primarily hunting from a saddle, and i just lock in the shank on the edge of the platform. It's just comfy and allows zero pressure on my foot from the edge of the platform. I am thinking about getting a pair of Crispi Attiva's just for everyday wear and hiking, maybe scouting because they are unbelievably comfortable and all the less expensive shoes I have been buying are just junk - Altras, Merrell, Kean, Adidas. If the Crispis don't last me three times longer I might go back to throwaway brands, but I also think my body is gonna feel 10x better after walking in them throughout the day. You get what you pay for. Shoes/boots and beds are kinda important.

I have had a pair of meindl boots for 6 hunting seasons now, love them, I to am not a fan of rubber boots, yet there is a time and place for them, I primarily do hang and hunts as well as using a climber yet so I like something lighter and more maneuverable. That being said my meindls are amazing but non insulated which are fine up until I hits 25-30 I start to find myself struggling with sits. The higher crispi has caught my eye, how do they stack up against the 400 gram kenetrek or howag boots. Thanks for your input and video.

200 Grams isn't gonna cut it if you're hunting treestands in the midwest in Nov. (Kansas) The Danner Pronghorn 1200 gram with a medium weight wool sock works well. On really cold days, the Artic Shield boot covers will keep you in the stand all day.

It's a 1/4 turn on the butt out. They work great better then splitting the pelvis. I don't leave home without my buttout. You guys are wrong on this. I never clamp it off. Just pull it through. It's way easier with the buttout.

My first experience with a butt out tool was a bust. Literally. I was 18 and it was my 2nd deer. I stuck it up the wrong hole on a doe… turned, and turned, and it broke. I was the laughing stock of the group for awhile after that…

Ok first off I view you guys moor on the whitetail world. Rubber boots in archer season in the Midwest are a must in heavy pressure states. I have had the same pair of lacrosse boots for 10 yeas. In Michigan I have watched deer sent track leather gortext boots to the tree. Dose a hiking like boot serve it purpose in hanging sets and such yes but in hunting no. You guys love John E. On here what’s his boots of choice rubber for a reason.

So you’re saying you’ve watched a whitetail track a human being all the way to the tree that they’re sitting in? In my experience, when the smell something they don’t like, they tend to go in the opposite direction 🤷🏼‍♂️
