We have had dozens of boxing video games through out the years... But could the best one be from Japan? Let's make a mealplan and find out.

Lot of Japanese sport sims go in depth with their careers. Jikkyio Pro Wrestling had a similar career where it had a bunch of intense training and stuff and that was on the SNES. Victorious Boxers 2 was a game that I remember seeing a trailer for a long time ago and thought it looked like and awesome game based on the trailer, which was over on Game Trailers, back when they had their own website and KZbin was still a thought bubble in someone's brain. The fast paced and brutal fighting definitely appealed to me then and still looks fun now. This was a great review, and you did a good job capturing the gameplay and modes. I might be tempted to find an ISO of this.

You can parry punches with regularity by "catching hands" with the same type of punch, you can also "shoulder roll" with certain stances and leans. You can also get up faster by mashing buttons and as long as you have enough "life".

Yo! Thanks for flashing my guide for a split second. So actually Boxer's Road 2 on PSP (Japan only again) took this career mode and built upon it, just without the Ippo license. All of the food and the scheduling is still there, but there's money to think of, you can hire different staff with different specialities, you can get fractures, you can be asked if you want to participate in tournaments, and you can travel between the different playable countries if you've got the cash. All in all a nice upgrade if you can get past the jankier framerate (need to set the PSP core clock to 60 to avoid a hyperspeed bug in round 2 of a career mode pro fight, but that limits game performance)
@supersasukemaniacАй бұрын
The career mode from this game got it's own full sequel. Boxer's Road 2: The Real, and it actually had a full license with Japan's Boxing Commission.

YES its insane just how GOOD these games are. I like fight night too but the hajime no ippo games on ps2 are just on another level, i love the dynamic animations on punches and how the position of your torso changes the trajectory of your punches. Its super impressive. In the sequels the faces even get swollen as you get punched and you get tired if you punch mindlessly, you can even play as a bear! (Yes it happens in the anime) You might also want to check out the gba ippo game, a first person boxing game sounds like something that shouldnt work but its an amazing game with a lot of complexity.

Hajime no Ippo is goated, the Manga, the anime, the games All fucking top tier. Also there is a blocking and stamina system but yeah you don't really need to know about it. And yeah certain fights being much harder is accurate to the story, some fights Ippo barely comes out alive but if you have knowledge of certain things from the story it can help you win.

YESSSS Someone else representing Hajime no Ippo Victorious Road. I've been shilling this game on Reddit and /sp/ years ago, but no one else would join me in praising how good this game is as a Boxing game. Like literally the best. It has the most indepth and faithful to reality career mode (Barring the Hajime no Ippo special attack type shit) of any boxing game, bar none. If you could somehow mod the game to tweak stuff, like make the damage accumulation more realistic, make scoring more realistic, and make power more realistic (every fight unfortunately ends in KO unless you the player just put no effort into training your strength and thus have to reply on pot shotting to a 12 round decision) it'd literally be perfect.
